Fixing your machines is the best videos! I would love to see total restorations, with all parts checked, fixed up, new paint and everything. That would have been really awsome
Always...ALWAYS down for tool repair and restoration. So long as you don't pull a scotto from hoonigan and have an entire episode about removing a single rusty bolt.
I had to subscribe, because you’re the only guy that makes axes but doesn’t have an axe to grind! A restoration video on repairing the off-setter would be really interesting to watch, especially any lathe work.
The upsetter restoration definitely sounds fun especially if you do something with the "paint" on both of them! You have these beutiful power hammers alongside 2 upsetter's that look like they've spent most of their lives buried in the silt at the bottom of a pond! 😥😥😥 Having said that, this is the only place I've ever seen an upsetter so that might actually be the way they finish the machine's when they are made in the factory 😂🤣😂🤣😂
it astounds me how much is involved crafting the axes even with the help of the machinery. Always happy to see videos for everythin g you lads get up to, including playing with rebuilding the machines.
Awesome content as usual! Non-blacksmith here, but while you have the power hammer apart anyway, you may benefit ergonomically by putting it on a 1' to 1.5' railroad tie pedestal. That way you don't have to hunch over when you use it cause you're so tall :)
That air leak can wait till this run is finished. All the high tolerance parts are worn and out of spec. You just got that one on line a few days ago. Rebuild the hammer. An air leak isn't a stop the line issue -till it is! Go Martin !👍
Hey may as well do a number on the Upsetter. It's something you are going to be using a lot by the looks of it, so makes sense to attack it after the Power Hammer is finished. Well done on the tooling. The production line is looking great👍
With both upsetters you could make tooling that would do most of the work and streamline the process. Start on machine 1 with the billet to form the the rough head size, then the second machine could get the eye taken care of and trim the head. 2 sets of dies 1 for each axe head. The final heads would be more consistent and that in turn makes it possible for the wood and leather components to be more universal. With the right tooling those machines could essentially mold the billet with not too much effort, in theory anyway.
That awesome upsetting machine upsets me cause I don’t have one! And two power hammers, thats greedy! Make sure you count fingers every day Tim, too easy to lose one in that workshop!
Bad idea: maybe use the offcuts from the tips to make damascus with another metal of a similar era? Potential good idea: you can make the upsetter arm much longer or make a little toggleable mechanical device to lengthen the travel if you want to get wild with it.
While BOTH upsetters need work, a good service and gaskets, seals etc replacing, you have already stated that you won't do anything with them until after your power hammer is finished. I'm perfectly happy to wait since I know we'll get to see them being refurbished and serviced etc as and when it is viable ;)
timothy, might it be a nice idea for a giveaway to all your viewers, for example a tour in your workshop or something so that 1 or a few people can win and, for example, have a look behind the scenes? sounds great
how about throwing on a cheap pressure relief valve on the exhaust line? I bet you find that a back pressure of a small number stops the majority of the leak. I am a big believer if it ain't broke don't fix it when you got bills to pay. rebuild is a great idea but only when you have the time and money to do it with...also if possible find a rebuild kit and have it before you ever crack it open....btw my son wants an axe badly, his 11th birthday is coming up and he has requested one
Hey Tim! How's your titanium blacksmith's hammer going? I'm super curious to see how the material is wearing through general use! Has the anodised colouring started to fade? Any marring of the hammer face? Love your work!!
Fix one machine then fix the next one. You really wont regret it. Once they are done up properly, you wont have to touch them again for a very long time. Plus air leaks are not only annoying , but they make your compressor work harder than it needs to. 👍
Heads up I'm saying this cause I want you to have a long career. You really should work on your posture. Constantly bending over like that while working on the power hammer and such is going to cause back problems in the future. You're clearly a tall guy so I would consider maybe raising your equipment to a comfortable work level. Just don't want you to suffer from injuries in the future man. Hope you're doing well and can't wait to see the axes finished.
Properly working tools are very important - not only for a smooth process but for the sake of safety as well. As minor as it might seem to not have such fine controls on the upsetter, if you happen to be using it while tired, there is potential to forget the controls aren't as smooth as the other one and increase the risk of injury. None of us want to see you or Martin get hurt and it would be interesting content to see you fix it up. (Of course, the power hammer does have a higher priority but please don't push this off too much, if for no other reason than safety.)
Hey Tim been watching your vids...good work bro! I have a welding/blacksmithing business surrey...we should connect some time in the future, talk shop, and maybe one day collaborate on something cool?
i would love to see a total restoration on the upsetter :)
Agreed, Nazel first though :)
I would like to see how it works while restoring it!
Yes please tim
Agreed. A series would be a lot of fun!
Yea, cleaning up the rusted parts, degrease the whole thing and remove the paint, give it a new color, etc.
Love to see an upsetter teardown, also youm should repaint both of them :)

Anything you wanna take apart I will watch. Hi Martin!
Yes, getting the equipment working properly helps production. Replacing seals and rings will save wear on the compressor too. 👊🦊👍
Channel needs a splash more of Martin too......fun to watch you discover the best process for you to complete the axe builds.
a splash more light would be better
4 Days + 4 Videos = Awesome

One of the only channels worth watching on TH-cam. Keep inspiring brother!!!

Getting off work and settling into these videos the last couple nights has been awesome.
Always enjoy a tool teardown/restoration!
Loving this daily videos. Can't wait to see tomorrows video. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work Tim. Forge On. Keep Making. God Bless.
Yep I’d love too see you rebuild that upsetter and to see the power hammer finished..😁👍
If you are looking for input yes fixing up your machines is always very interesting to see.
I love watching restorations

Yea h, you gotta tear that beast down and give her Love. We’re all waiting for that series of videos. 😁👍🏻

I finally got to use my 1908 axe and hatchet over the weekend. Love them! Keep up the awesome work my friend!
Restoration vids are always entertaining

I would love to see a restoration going !
1. Would love to see a video on repairing the upsetter.
2. Absolutely love the daily videos
Yup fix it up! Love the power hammer restoration vids.

Well done on the tooling. The production line is looking great👍
Loving this upsetting series! ;)
Great work Tim, love the music too!
I love the machine maintenance videos

That upsetter is so nice i'm strongly considering going well out of my way to bring one back to Newfoundland.
The daily videos are great to see.
Tim , as long as you’re giving us videos . Where are happy !
You should do a few super limited Damascus hatchets, would make for a fun 2 or 3 part series making a handful of them.
Great idea

Restore the upsetter, but more important than that, make sure you paint it yellow!
Yes, open the upsetter!!! I wanna see!!
While BOTH upsetters need work, a good service and gaskets, seals etc replacing, you have already stated that you won't do anything with them until after your power hammer is finished.

You should use the axe blade cutoffs to make a damascus series of the axes.
I would love to see a separate/extended video of the tare down and repair of the press
I'd love to see even a simple refresh with a cheap hammerite paint job
Complete rebuild 💯💯💯
I can’t imagine how high your gas bill is. Beautiful craftsmanship as always.
Get them working good 👍
Question...would you rather:
Do production work...or
Hand forge titanium?
Love your work
Also, thanks for posting another daily video!
Hope u get all your machinery running tip top!
Fixing the up setter sounds good as long as it works out good , Or it would be very up setting if it doesn't . :).
Another great video
A rebuild is probably in order. Might be old enough for leather seals!
I'd love to see you restore the upsetter once the power hammer is done.

Tim are you gonna make damascus from those axe tip offcuts? Think that would be pretty sick my dude!
One of the things I like about you Tim is, you're easily distracted!
Power Hammer than Upsetter!
I would say do maintenance on the new upsetter so you can have better accuracy while using it and can do it while waiting for the power hammer parts.
Finish the power hammer and then tear in to that. Your Right it would be fun.
Both... yes, both.
Hey Tim! How's your titanium blacksmith's hammer going? I'm super curious to see how the material is wearing through general use! Has the anodised colouring started to fade? Any marring of the hammer face? Love your work!!
Wooo! Here we go
Fix one machine then fix the next one. You really wont regret it. Once they are done up properly, you wont have to touch them again for a very long time. Plus air leaks are not only annoying , but they make your compressor work harder than it needs to. 👍
🖐️ rebuild hand is up
9:56 Tim; bye Martin I’m leaving.
10:00 Martin; now I can get some real more done!!!🤣🤣🤣. Jk!!!
Sick vid brah
You weren't joking about this everyday upload? 👍 love it💯
Yes, definitely fix er up! To do otherwise (or even to do so) would be... upsetting
Day 1 of saying thank you for the amazing videos until tim notices me: thank you for making amazing content and videos
Restoration series on the upsetter!
Man I love your work I'm just struggling to talk my wallet into buying one I don't go camping as much any more
2nd hammer! - a moment of silence for poor will stelter
It doesn’t fix the problem but a longer lever will give you more of a sensitive touch.
You should take all of your cut offs and forge weld them into another axe billet!
Get that power hammer finished first and then for sure clean up the upsetter!
The channel needs an editor if you’re doing daily vids Tim. This situation doesn’t feel equal. Martin is a legend.
Hands up !!
Nice 👍
Give’r on the upsetter resto is what I say.
Yep open up
Nice intro montage.
I wouldn’t be able to use that machine without feeling like I need to wash my hands every time I touched it
Well that was an upsetting video😂

Could you possibly try to make a titanium axe with the upseter?
Fix it ! 👍🏻
Rebuild!
So do you work with leather at your shop?
I love all the things Timothy does, also like martin the silently good guy, but in some cases the show looks like Penn and Teller xD
yozaaaa
Fix it Tim!
i want one of thows upsetters now
two words would save you a huge amount of time: batch production

If only I had a power hammer…
