Proper old school fishing like it was back in 1989 when I started. Much better in those days as there wasn't anybody else fishing the lake and we generally had it to our (me and my good friend Rod Woods, God rest his soul, who introduced me to Carping) ourselves. The good old days. I had both Bitech Vipers which were crap and Effgeeco bite alarms.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the great tutorial. I'm new to the sport of carp fishing. Not new however to the sport of fishing and plan on wading in by utilizing a rod and reel I already have. I feel they meet what many would say is the minimal requirement. 9 ft med. action spinning rod (2.75 lb test curve) and a half decent reel with a large line capacity. The reel is not a baitrunner but I did key on something you mentioned about leaving the bail open and using a line clip on the rod. I'm hoping you can elaborate a bit on this clip. The video shows it but I don't really understand it's function. I will be fishing the rod from a pod with an electronic bite alarm.

If you are using a bead as a ledger stop, why do you need a swivel?
