What amazes me about chippers big and small is how they’re able to generate the air flow (?) to clear the cutting chambers so well.

They have air intakes in the housing and fins on the back of the flywheel or in this mschine a drum

Not that amazing when you consider the machine already needs a spinning drum to chip. Add a couple fins/paddles, same principle as every other fan or leaf blower. The chips get thrown from the cutters at 100+ mph, air moving just help a bit.
I've owned an operated chippers my whole life(none anywhere as big as this, 18" the biggest) and what gets me is just the raw power of these things.
