Our Murdy No. 2 design works specifically with hardcover inserts. There are some lower cost options available. Piccadilly notebooks can be found at Barnes and Nobles for about $6 and the Excel notebooks at Walmart are also compatible.
Really, this concept wouldn't be hard to replicate. Once you have a design, find a machine shop that will do it on a CNC machine for you and ask for a copy of the file when they are done. Once you have the file, you could turn these out pretty easy. The issue is that one off stuff costs ALOT. Murdy probably gets a nice bulk discount for the bars. Way better than you could get just ordering one or two from a machine shop. You could probably make your own with about $20 worth of cheap tools, but you're not going to get the quality that you'd see from a machine shop doing the work. Pay for the convenience vs pay for the experience.
This bar system is genius. Ledger Cut is going to be my Father’s Day gift!
I completely messed up two other books that I have so this video explains the whole process a lot better.
This video hits the perfect balance of enough commentary and no-nonsense instructional.
Ohhhh! Sheeshh. I thought it was some complicated process. That's easy peasy!
That is always the goal when we can manage it! Thank you for using our journals!
When I do screws like that I put some tape on the table sticky side up to hold the screws. My kid is a whirlwind, it's saved me many times.
That is a brilliant idea!
♥️♥️♥️ Awsome craftsmanship!!
Can you buy a replacement pen when the ink runs out from your website?
So you can't even do staplebound/clothbound refills? The journal requires expensive hardbacks?

I'd take this is the Classic Cut?
Where do you get the metal for the leather notebooks?
Excellent question! We have a local machinist we have make them for us.
