I watched every game Dubois played last year-- he was horrible. And when i say horrible-- I mean he just wouldn't show up. Turned the puck over a lot. Would not fight for the puck. When he was physical he changed games, but he played all out in maybe, maybe 5-games max-- and that was after the coach was fired. It was astounding to watch. Played like he didn't care. You can't coach heart and desire-- and that's why the Kings got rid of him.
Makes sense for the Caps! R u kidding! Watch PLD for a season lazy, clueless, SOFT!, selfish last one back on D every shift worst trade in LA history we gave up Valardi for this STIFF! He 's laughing all the way to the bank now on Caps dime, one more year on Blake contract cannot wait to see him sent packing Luke needs to go as well.
7 years, in his prime years from age 26-32. Will get 1C playing time, and power play time. Caps needed bumper position and goal scorer. At end of day, all anybody wants is more playing time, which he absolutely will get. Strong locker room with Ovi, Carlson, Oshie and motivational coach Carbery will prove haters wrong.
Unfortunately, PLD is a dog. Horrible character. He is the tin man-- no heart. It was so bad that the Kings basically gave him away. He can score 30-goals a season and he's still a net minus. Very disappointing, but this has been the issue now on three teams-- you think it changes now that he's on the Capitals? It won't-- he's a low character player. I'm thrilled he's gone. This is addition by subtraction. Proud of Blake for admitting his mistake and moving on.
@@MartyKeegan I just don't get this take. I'm a rabid caps fan and obviously biased, but people ragging on his character seems wrong when this is the same guy who changed his number to honor a teammate who passed away. As far as his game, the analytics seem to value him as a possession-driving player. He genuinely seems like a decent guy with decent game whose worst quality was not wanting to re-sign in Columbus or Winnipeg.
@@backstromforsberg Scott, listen--- I hope he scores 50 goals for you and he's the MVP of the finals, truly. I tell you this as a former player, coach and referee-- he's lazy. He doesn't have any drive. He did not stick up for smaller teammates. He mailed it in. Why do you think the Kings gave him away? We gave up a lot for him-- a high draft pick and valuable players. Like you, I thought the same way about the prior complaints about him. I thought it was just a conflict with the coach and then that he didn't want to live in Winnipeg. I was wrong. Very wrong. The Kings had to unload his contract before July 1 or they'd be stuck for seven more years-- he has a no trade clause that kicks in July 1 and he has a mega contract. I hate to be the one that tells you there is no Santa, but Washington just made a huge miscalculation. It's easy to do because he has the skills and the size to be a star-- and he's only 25! So management rationalized that he wasn't as productive because he wasn't playing on the top line and he wasn't primary on the power play-- and that's what seduced them into taking a chance. His numbers will increase with you because he will get more time on the power play, but he's not a winner. PLD is the opposite of the Tkachuks. You'll see-- and I'm sorry.
Will say PLD is one guy who needs a whole year to warm up to a new team. He needs top minutes, PP1 and an elite winger to play with. So we’ll see if that’s available with the Caps? He draws alot of penalties when at top speed but gives up as much too. He is likely no better than a 2C in the end.
He didn't earn third line minutes this past season. He coasted up and down the ice. The absolute King of making blind passes to the slot from the corner-- only to see the other team going the other way on an outnumbered break. Never fought to maintain control for the puck in the corners. I'm thrilled he's gone.
65 point pace across 154 games over his last two seasons in Winnipeg. LA traded the bag for him and played him 3 minutes less a night for one year and then put on the shocked pikachu face when his production dropped and cut bait. That's just terrible management. I think Washington thinks 65-point Dubois is what they're getting at worst with a big opportunity in Washington and even more growth is possible because he's going to play even more than he did in Winnipeg. W for the caps, honestly. They needed a guy like this and traded no prospects, picks, or any skaters to get this guy. It's a pure offensive net-add.
Both these players didn't deserve those ridiculous contracts so it's just a toss up deal but I am surprised Caps didn't make LA retain some salary because everybody knows they were 100% done with him. Caps are doing them a HUGE favor here, so I cant see how they didn't make them retain some cap🤷♂ That Wash GM has been making a lot of head scratching moves last few seasons.
Yes!!!!!!!!! Half-way through next season Caps fans can circle back and tell us if they still think they got a good deal-- they didn't. And as of July 1 he can't be traded. They're on the hook for a mega contract with a player who doesn't care about winning. The Kings gave him everything he wanted and he still was not inspired. He's a big dude, strong, good skater and yet when did he drop the gloves? When was he unstoppable on the ice? Physical? When did he demand the puck or take over a game--- he didn't. And he was fine with being mediocre. Kopitar and Doughty play hard every shift of every game-- that's what the Kings wanted to see and didn't.
I think it's a clever move by the Caps. They betting on PLD to bounce back or othervise go into a rebuild. Then it doesn't really matter if he's good or not
Honestly i see this as a terrible trade for Washington. It isn’t that Dubois can’t be good. Or maybe will get better in Washington. It’s the contract and length of the contract
As a Caps fan, at least that contract doesn't go til his mid or late 30s. It ends at 32, which I'm fine with. I can also vouch for our cap situation being really solid. If Oshie doesn't play next year, we're looking at almost 19 mil of cap room (before signing McMichael and Malenstyn). And that's including Dubois in the roster and half of Kuznetsov's salary on the books for one more year. Ovechkin is off to the KHL in two years and that's another 9.5 million back.
Caps have a lot of cap space and potentially couple years away from major rebuild, if PLD will work they might rebuild faster. Plus the whole Florida team in finals build out of trades like that. Hopefully he is not complete bust will see.... LA traded a lot to get him and now gave him up for nothing, and Caps got him just for cap space and kept all prospects and picks. 👍
The Caps taking an L on that salary. If he doesn't step up they won't even be able to move him. Potentially more likely to become a 8.5mil Hershey Bears center...
Backstrom isn't even playing anymore. No one will replace Backstrom. This isn't about Ovi. It's about replenishing center depth to allow our prospect pool to beef back up without giving up literally any assets. We gave nothing up besides a 34-year old goaltender who lost his job last year and we're probably getting a 65 point center at worst which is what he averaged over 154 games in his last two seasons in Winnipeg before LA slashed his TOI by 3 minutes a night. If Oshie LTIRs next season, we have almost 19 million in cap space even with Dubois on the roster. They have plenty of cap space moving forward and gave up nothing from the prospect pool.
I agree with u. It feels like they took this to help ovi pass Gretzky. If Dubois actually gets a point per game like most players at 8.5 then great. Ovi gets his record and the caps might not be up shits creek. But if he hovers around that .5 points a game that contract will hurt for a long time. And no one will take a chance on it.
And on the flip side la would be happy with this trade even if they buyout kuemper after next season. Even if Dubois plays well. Since he obviously didn’t mesh with la.
It kind of makes sence for Caps but it's scary. It's so hard to trade center who has (maybe) potential to be 1C
