    I am basically in favour of pitch clocks. However, I expect the rules to be changed to suit the situation, such as disabling the endgame.
    For example, during Ohtani vs Trout, the atmosphere would have been ruined if a pitch clock had been introduced.

    Pretty sure no baseball fan is a fan of the ghostrunner....one of the dumbest rules. I've yet to meet one who loves that rule. The limited throws to first with a man on is also lame. Stop trying to speed up a game meant to be played slowly and give easier bases to runners...

      I completely agree. I grew up in total love with the game as it was. I actually saw Sandy Kofax pitch a no-hitter in 1964. I paid $1.50 admission that evening. Talk about priceless memories. Probably won’t see any of them again. Evenings and Saturday / Sunday games never bored me.
      Finally, after the boring era of astroturf , which the owners all loved, it seemed like the good old days might be coming back Real grass on the fields: bunting and serious defensive play; but it was a mirage. The game has turned into nine innings of home run derby. (The most boring part of the all star break.) What a shame. They took a beautiful thing and wrecked it. Where have you gone Joe DiMagio ?

      @@francismeiers7916 Yeah I hear ya my dad was born in the 40s so he was telling me much of what you mentioned though we're Yankee fans so he saw Joe D at the old stadium many years ago. I was born in the early 80s so I grew up when they weren't great til the 90s.
      Ha I had a history teacher obsessed with Sandy he was a big Met fan after the Dodgers left.
      The game has definitely changed and as someone who used to play myself in leagues it pains me to see these rule changes as well. The crazy shifts are one thing I'm glad they got rid of however infielders on the outfield was nonsense but yeah everything else is just like what were they thinking?

  • @kengo7273

    Shift Limitation is weird. The defense team is taking the risk of opening the other side. It's a strategy. The change favors the hitters' inability and prevents them from improving. They just have to learn to hit either direction.
    Tennis also has a time limit before service, but after long rallies, at match point, etc, the referee has reasonable discretion to allow time to play by reading the atmosphere. In tennis, the steps are warning → dedication of one point.

  • @RyansColoradoRailProductions
    @RyansColoradoRailProductions ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I hate them all. Pitch timer just makes worse ways to lose games (walk off walk a or painful final out), and on a third pickoff throw to first with runners on first and third is a balk, and that means the runner on third is awarded the plate and scores, even if there’s no runner on 2nd, which gives the other team a free run and is really unfair. Banning the shift takes away part of the wow factor in the game too. They have gone too far. I’m willing to bet someone this year, whether it be a player or a manager, will intentionally get ejected as a form of protest against these awful rules, whether it be on a pickoff throw balk, pitch timer violation resulting in strike 3, or a pitch timer violation resulting in ball 4 with the bases loaded. I’m not going to be surprised if they only last one season. In addition there should not be a pitch timer in the postseason.

    I wasn't a fan of the pitch clock rule but you know what I think I like it based on the last game between the Cardinals and the Astros. I just don't like the penalty, I don't know how to explain to someone who is not used to watching baseball why a batter is called strike out if the third strike was because of it.
    also, there should be exceptions, the last at-bat in the WBC with Ohtani ag. Trout was longer than 20 sec between each pitch and was very exciting.

  • @MusicalMethuselah
    @MusicalMethuselah ปีที่แล้ว

    PItch clock: awesome. Tons of fun play for both the batter and the pitcher. Shift limits, I get the meaning, maybe a little too limiting, but I can dig it. Bigger bases....seems a little strange. Maybe they could become rectangular to allow for more safety while not decreasing the distance between bases very much? Or like an extra base extension like in little league and high school ball? I love a good catcher gunning a runner down and I don't want to lose that.

    while i like the other two rules, i dont like the defensive shift rule. i believe that limiting the area where players can stand limits the coach and the player's ability to play baseball with a little more strategy, keeping the balance between quick action and fast thinking with a good plan and strategy behind it. Though i do understand it if you want more action to happen, personally, i like a little more strategy beyond any one player's coordination and personal game plan

    I don't have an opinion on increasing the base sizes.

    • @OptimusVlad
      @OptimusVlad ปีที่แล้ว

      They're trying to encourage more base stealing. If a runner can get the pitcher to try to pick twice, it means the runner can get a bigger lead of the base after the 2nd try. The pitcher would be nervous to try a third pick.

I am happy to have wasted hat much time to watch my favorite team, the Mariners, to play as hard as they did to come very close to winning while not seeing one lick of proof that Manfred's rule change is helping with speeding up the game. If he allows the shift, the we may see more outs as outs are the main clock of the game of baseball.
    Speaking of which, I did see a game go through 6 innings with 90 minutes because both teams were constantly getting the outs they needed while allowing very minimal offense. It did take me a moment that the game was 2/3 already over with and did finish with 1 to 0 win for a team. i just remember that the game went by quickly due to how quickly the outs were being made.
