    This is truly a great review. Not shilling for Prime like a lot are doing these days. Fair review. Made me want it more despite its shortcomings.

      Good deal dude. I love Prime, but luckily our discussions have been clear. I try not to hide pros and cons. It's a good bar, and I think you'll enjoy it, just not quite perfect

    I ended up going with the Marrs Bar... Never tried any sort of Hatfield/SSB, so relied on my 3D understanding and instinctual super power to unravel the mystery between the MB, transformer (T) & prime bar (PB). The T has a number of settings to adjust the camber angle & it's leverage. But evidently while trying to do some version of a squat you may also be doing your push or pull workouts. And a good morning (GM) isn't much different than using a conventional SSB. The PB, according to Mike (a robotic prick at Prime Fitness), is a one dimensional bar, ill suited for anything except a basic squat. A squat that they refused to recognize as a version of a high bar squat, front squat, or anything in between (and we know it's not low bar), so it's the 'Pat' of SSBs. So the MB had more versatility than the PB, but without requiring me to help it do its job like the T (in addition to a non-conventional GM). I do have a couple critiques of the MB, but at this point they're minor, and no piece of equipment is ever, ever perfect in every way.

    • @GrayMatterLifting
      @GrayMatterLifting  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate the comment and your thought process on your decision. I'm hoping the MARRS Bar lands in my gym in the near future so I can do a solid side by side. I never personally had any interest in the Transformer Bar. I could see if you can't front squat, back squat, etc. Having multiple options in one bar would be helpful. But otherwise, I see about 25 options that you'd use maybe 2 or 3.

    • @donquixote...
      @donquixote... ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @GrayMatterLifting ...and the MB can pretty much only do 3 different things. I can back squat, though it puts a lot of pressure on the neck area. But I can't front squat or do a GM with a barbell. So, as you said, you really don't need more than that.

      Is it possible to do front squats given the back plate design?

    • @GrayMatterLifting
      @GrayMatterLifting  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimj.9291 No. You can do back squat variations like Hatfield's, box squats.. and things like good mornings. But no front squats, JM presses, etc.

    • @GrayMatterLifting
      @GrayMatterLifting  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It feels like a very natural squat. What I mean is, the bar sits on your back and is just in that perfect spot. I personally would liken that to a high bar squat position, but I also personally do high bar even for my 1rm attempts. The bar just feels very comfortable where it sits.

    One of these days I'm going to replace my Kabuki Transformer Bar with this bar. Storage on the Kabuki Transformer Bar in a vertical position (9 bar holder) is frustrating and annoying because the collar can detach and the whole bar slams downwards. For that reason alone I want to get rid of it ... other than that, no complaints. I think the main appeal of the Prime Fitness Super Squat Bar is that you can load a lot of weight on it and it still feels comfortable, unlike a regular barbell. And unlike a safety squat bar, it doesn't move the weight higher and more forward, rather it moves it lower and backwards, which takes the torque out of the movement. The science says people lift 12% less with a safety squat bar compared to a barbell, but with the Prime bar, undoubtedly any lifter could lift more.

    thank you for being one of the first to review! how well do you think the bar would perform with single leg squat variations or lunges? i know it was made with a specific purpose, but do you think it can be versatile?

    • @GrayMatterLifting
      @GrayMatterLifting  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can definitely handle those. You can see in the clip, I completely let go of the handles and spin around. So you could get it up on your back, then get situated without worry about it falling over, etc.
      While probably not the first intent, it'll work well.
