    I know how you feel mate, did loads of work for a family friend. Never got paid worked there out of hours on Sundays cause I’m the kind of bloke that wants to help people out. It really dented my confidence and trust in people especially when said people aren’t clearly short of a quid or too

      That's what usually makes matters worse! Nice car on the drive, good job, but when it comes to paying a tradesperson they drag their feet 🤷🏽‍♂️

      Feel for you -- think we've all had problems with getting payed -- i'm the same , over the years in the trade thoe iv'e learned alot about people !-- i know that family friends can turn out to be good customers -- but i have had problems with them just like you -- what i i do now is make sure i get payed as the jobs go on -- don't do lots of jobs , then give them one big bill -- ask for money for each job -- another warning sign is when the customer phones you saying -- we've had a few plumbers start the job + they were rubbiish we had to get rid of them !!! -- truth is most of the time the other plumbers have got out of ther coz they have realised that the customer was ether hard work or they suspected problems with getting payed !! -- take care Jim

      @@jamesknowles550 ah mate you've got it spot on. I'm always dubious when customers complain about the other trades. There's always 2 sides to every story. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏽

    Card on completion for me now. The whole “ I’ll do a bank transfer this evening” has worn thin. I don’t trust anyone and I don’t leave site without payment. And you’re absolutely right it’s the few that ruin it for the many, but we have trade accounts to settle, overheads to pay and families to feed. Good honest video 👌🏻

    13a fused connection unit will always burn out if used on a immersion heater. 20amp double pole switch is better. Keep up the good work.

    Good Video Mate,
    I’ve been dealing with the public as I’m self employed for the last 15 years and I v heard all the excuses,
    I always ask after quoting a job our the phone before I get there it’s a cash or card payment only and will need to be paid on completion otherwise I would not go out,
    And on any big jobs like new boilers and that,
    It’s always a 75% deposit before I buy anything, I always make it clear that there deposit is fully refundable if they choose to cancel,
    So ye definitely don’t be shy asking for your hard earned money,
    Good video mate,
    👍👍🤜

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks mate, appreciate your input too. Yeah big jobs I always take a deposit, it's the small jobs that tend to be messers and those quickly add up!

    Getting the money is the worst!! Does my head in! I even offered to employ my Mrs just to manage it all. She would invoice and chase the money.. she declined cos I think she knew it would be a nightmare! Lol I would embarrassed to have someone work for me and not pay them! I allow 7 days then send a reminder and then they start receiving letters... I had a guy owe me £100 for over a year before he paid... there is a company online, they are solicitors who send out letters for you for £2.50 they send 3 letters and each letter gets more and more threatening.. until they pay.. keep up the great work.. I'm a suckered sometimes for been to friendly and nice to customers which they then think we are mates

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers Brendan, yeah the chasing money aspect is the worst part. I don't know if it's just because I'm a tradesman myself, but if I have anyone round mine to do any work, I have their money ready before they've packed up their tools. Just a matter of courtesy and appreciation for the work that someone's put in

    Don't be shy in asking for money straight after a job is completed. If they don't pay on time then put them on the bottom of your attending list, fact is good boiler engineers are in demand at the moment..

  • @dazl7954
    @dazl7954 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know some people that ask for payment at the end of the job, and make customers fully aware that payment will be taken at the end of the job, or even part payment if expensive parts are needed etc. Some even take a deposit on arrival, but we are all different. and vent if you need to mate, as it is good to get it out there, as I am sure others are in the same boat as you. some good jobs there mate :)

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers Daz, yeah I usually take 50% deposit on installs, etc to cover materials and sundries, but it's more the smaller jobs I find myself chasing payment on and they're the ones that add up overall

    Watched a load of your videos today 3:53 Lamp Master. Just watching this one and I couldn't agree with you more about you being paid. You've done the work consummately and with care. Then people think can not pay you on time. I think your how to you prefer to pay upfront. You are not a charity and you have family and bills to pay ❤ your work by the way.

    Been a gas engineer for 52 years till I retired , loved it , except for getting the money In, after getting stung a few times in my early years , I always gave the customer an estimate of how much the job was going to cost before I started, after that 95 % paid up no problem , got to expect a few wrong uns , after a while you just know who is going to be a problem , just say you're going for some parts and go . Don't go back , tell your workmates who are the problem payers, . Know an electrician who poured a tin of nitromours over the car of a guy who cheated him , not saying that you should do that of course , love the videos , cheers Steve

    • @cputilitysolutions
      @cputilitysolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate 👍🏽 20ohms would be on anything that draws up to 13A. Look up Ohms Law (Volts = Current x Resistance) and you can use that formula

    Stick to your guns with money mate. We have to live too, and non payment is unacceptable. If they haven't got the money they should at least tell you before you start a job and at least you know if you want to help them. Get money up front for big jobs to cover materials. Some people say its a piss take but if they cant afford the parts they cant afford the job.
    Take care Bro
