Nice tune, great song!..Takes a lot of guts and imagination for Jamie to make a lovely tear jerking song about a simple heart break and wiping out the state of Arizona in one breath!! You go girl!
My mom and I would sing the hell out of this song when I was a little kid. I didn't know what it meant at the time, but I'm glad I didn't turn out to be one of those guys who promised Arizona's.
I have loved this song for years, but I always scoffed it off. Who would want to run away to a place with so few trees, where it is stupid hot, and how can sand look painted? Well, I always said I would 'run away from home' at one point and get away from small town Pennsylvania, and after flying out to be in a wedding in Tucson back in september, I found where I wanted to run. Been here 3 weeks, and suddenly the imagery in the song make so much sense. I love being able to walk out my door every morning and look up at Mt Lemmon and enjoy 80° weather in November.
Another lifelong Arizonan here 😁. I can also attest to the validity of oceanfront property in AZ as well. You can see the sea from our front porches! 😂
I remember when this song came out, I was about 5 years old, and I remember asking my Dad "If there is no Arizona, then where do we live?" Lol I haven't heard this song since, and now that I listen to it again, I know what this song is about lol.
It's become a running joke here that if you live in the middle of Arizona then you live in the middle of no where because there is no Arizona. I like to think of Arizona as existing in it's own pocket universe with it's own time. :P
I don’t feel so bad now lol. I used to think the same thing ‘how could there be no Arizona. It’s right there on the map.’ Then as I got older, I finally understood what it meant.
As a kid, my life plan was to run off to Arizona, to get away from everything and my life and start over.. as I got older, I've come to realize there is no "Arizona". That you can't run off to forget your problems. I've always loved this song because of that.
Glad you didn't come. I wished I never did. People out here suck & drugs are really bad here. Lots of self-centered, liars here too...Wished I had never came here. I'm paying for it now. But I will be leaving Az. real soon.
My ancestors settled Arizona. It was once a nice place, but all these people came here and keep using what little water there is and the corruption of our government has lead to no public transit and no additional lanes for the roads so there are too many people here and not enough resources. I've left Arizona before, but this is where my family is and once you've lived in Arizona your blood changes. That's probably due to valley fever, but at least Flagstaff and Prescott are nice.
this song came out during my first trip to arizona iv been in love with the hole state and i cant wait to go agean it kicks the shit out of kansas (iv been to sedona)
In two months my mother is moving our family away from our beautiful Arizona with no hope of returning any time soon. We're headed to Florida, away from everything I've ever known or loved. I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to this song again without breaking down.
Must be difficult being a Jamie O'Neil fan living in Arizona, on account of your favorite musician outright dismissing your existence as mere fantasy...
This is such a good song. I live in Arizona, and I used to hear this on the radio all the time when I was little. I didn't understand why she kept saying there was no Arizona when I definitely knew it was real. :)
I love this song for some reason, I'm not sure why, though, I feel that there's a lot of emotion in it, and I just like how it sounds and how the vocals become very strong at the chorus.
Wow. I was four when this came out. Eleven whole years ago...I remember singing along to this song with my mother in our little apartment in Phoenix. I miss it so much. I can't believe its been almost nine years since we left...
omg i used to LOVE this song. it was my favorite song ever. and i listened to it for the first time since i was like 5 and im 17 so now im all like AHHH i love this songgg
I actually had to move to Arizona when I was a kid and because of this song I thought we were moving to somewhere that didn't exist and was really freaked out. I was really little and crying my family thought it was funny
I went to a conference in Arizona. He wouldn't come with me. He stayed with his mistress and boyfriend. The trip was paid for. He had money. That was a big sign. I cried a lot and begged God to change him. He changed me.
Kellogg’s Presents….Driving’em Crazy….Country Music Collection song #4…..When I was transferred to Arizona, my wife said go and get settled and I’ll follow….I said NO WAY! We moved together because there IS ARIZONA! THERE IS SEDONA! THERE IS A PAINTED DESERT & AND NO LIES I TOLD HER!! She is the best thing ever happened to me, I’ll stand with her.
2018 anyone first time I heard this song I was 11 so 12 years ago and I use to want to go see the grandcanyon and wen I finally did I started listening to it again just love the way it flows... Makes me think of how amazing the canyon was defiantly say you should go if u never been!!
I have never heard this song before until today, and it describes what has happened to me so much. I was married to a wonderful man for 30 years then he died, I lost my son 5 months later. Then I met a man who was so perfect I thought...Lies, broken promises, cheating! Done! Thanks for this song!
This reminds me of my dad... He always promised me so many things. And he never did anything he promised. Havent seen him in2 years. He has a girlfriend and his girlfriends kids living with him and he gives them the love i deserve... I forgive him, he put so much pain on me... im fourteen. He is till my daddy and i miss him so much and no matter what i will still pray every night that daddy will call me....
He promised her a new and better life, out in Arizona Underneath the blue never ending sky, swore that he was gonna Get things in order, he'd send for her When he left her behind, it never crossed her mind There is no Arizona No Painted Desert, no Sedona If there was a Grand Canyon She could fill it up with the lies he's told her But they don't exist, those dreams he sold her She'll wake up and find There is no Arizona She got a postcard with no return address, postmarked Tombstone It said "I don't know where I'm goin' next but when I do I'll let you know" May, June, July, she wonders why She's still waiting, she'll keep waiting 'cause There is no Arizona No Painted Desert, no Sedona If there was a Grand Canyon She could fill it up with the lies he's told her But they don't exist, those dreams he sold her She'll wake up and find There is no Arizona Each day the sun sets into the west Her heart sinks lower in her chest and Friends keep asking when she's going Finally she tells them don't you know There is no Arizona No Painted Desert, no Sedona If there was a Grand Canyon She could fill it up with the lies he's told her But they don't exist, those dreams he sold her She'll wake up and find There is no Arizona He promised her a new and better life, out in Arizona

Great song for when you're road tripping through AZ with no set destination in mind other than to hit all the National Parks but it goes a little deeper when you know someone who puts too much emotional weight into an online love intrest that will never materialize. I know someone who harbors in her heart something for someone and it prevents her from finding TRUE love, the other person only playing mind games and she falls for it every time. When will she ever learn? This song is for my sister who needs to take better care of her heart!
When i was younger and this song came out I would always say "She's weird. There is a arizona, we live here." lol. buh this has always been one of my fav songs.

This song used to make me cry as a kid. My Dad's parent's were living in Arizona and I thought it meant that they disappeared or some shit. My Dad could NOT convince me that they were okay. :/
Listened and sang this song out at the top of my lungs when I was a kid. My dad lived in Arizona and kept promising us that he'd bring us out near flagstaff. He never did. He finally came home after my mom died, just to sign his rights to my little sister over to the state. He's in prison now and he can rot.
I have a brother who I named Arizona. And today is his 20th birthday. I told him i want him to make certain there is an Arizona 1 day. I didnt understand the song when i named him that.

I absolutely love Arizona :) Born in a lil town called Cottonwood. It's beautiful out there.
Dillon Phillps cottonwood is rad
Youre practically in Sedona
Havent heard this song in years... It's still as great as it was then as it is now.
Nice tune, great song!..Takes a lot of guts and imagination for Jamie to make a lovely tear jerking song about a simple heart break and wiping out the state of Arizona in one breath!! You go girl!

Makes me cry 7 years of marriage and 3 babies later...finally realizing there is no Arizona
Sucks but the sunshine shall come removing all the gray skys
It's ok I feel for you too. I have been trying to get there for 40yrs. I keep trying. Dont give up.
I have 10 year marriage 13 months being an inmates wife and 3 kids and there is no arizona

As a lifelong Arizonan, I can confirm that there is infact no Arizona
Oof. Better get a refund on my plane ticket from three weeks ago XD

I've been to all the places in the song and live in tucson and i still don't believe there is an Arizona

Lord Zizumias I was ten.
I don’t feel so bad now lol. I used to think the same thing ‘how could there be no Arizona. It’s right there on the map.’ Then as I got older, I finally understood what it meant.
Great Song ! Having lived in Phoenix
most of my life i can truly say there
is no Arizona !
I'm not typically a fan of country music, but this song hits me right in the gut -- just like a good country song should.
As a kid, my life plan was to run off to Arizona, to get away from everything and my life and start over.. as I got older, I've come to realize there is no "Arizona". That you can't run off to forget your problems. I've always loved this song because of that.
Yes, you can. I did it. Left my life back east and started over, not in Arizona, but in Wyoming. No regrets either.
This song for some reason is in my head. Which brought me here. 😇🥰
I'm not a girl but I like this song.. I too had lots of people come into my life promising so much but leaving with their lies thrown back at them.
this song came out during my first trip to arizona iv been in love with the hole state and i cant wait to go agean it kicks the shit out of kansas (iv been to sedona)

Your comment is the most relevant. You understand the emotion/music dynamic. Props
The women who wrote this song came up with some great lyrics. This is a great song I've remembered for years.
There is something deep and special about this song.. and her voice is beautiful
Actually Virginia Tech did a study on this and there could very well possibly be an Arizona.
Kaitlyn Febuary We know there's an Arizona. What she means is he lied about having a future and a life with her.
haha....
Edit: I was replying to Kaitlyn :)

Listening to this classic before the dawn of the new decade! Oh how great songs were back then...
Jamie is one of countries best. Underrated due to record label squabbles. The idiots. A talent and a force to be reckoned with.
Thank God for Arizona and I love it there .But I have been in love with a walk away boy and it sucks .love this Song. 🙆♀️
Love this song! It is true, you have to make your happiness where you are, if you can’t do that, a different place will not fix it.
As a native Arizonan who still lives in Arizona, I can attest to the wonderful place that is Arizona.🌵❤
I took off from NY at 25 and drove West. Got to Az and never left 32 years ago.
I have loved this song for a long time!! Jamie so amazing!

love this song so much!
He promised her a new and better life, out in Arizona
Underneath the blue never ending sky, swore that he was gonna
Get things in order, he'd send for her
When he left her behind, it never crossed her mind
There is no Arizona
No Painted Desert, no Sedona
If there was a Grand Canyon
She could fill it up with the lies he's told her
But they don't exist, those dreams he sold her
She'll wake up and find
There is no Arizona
She got a postcard with no return address, postmarked Tombstone
It said "I don't know where I'm goin' next but when I do
I'll let you know"
May, June, July, she wonders why
She's still waiting, she'll keep waiting 'cause
There is no Arizona
No Painted Desert, no Sedona
If there was a Grand Canyon
She could fill it up with the lies he's told her
But they don't exist, those dreams he sold her
She'll wake up and find
There is no Arizona
Each day the sun sets into the west
Her heart sinks lower in her chest and
Friends keep asking when she's going
Finally she tells them don't you know
There is no Arizona
No Painted Desert, no Sedona
If there was a Grand Canyon
She could fill it up with the lies he's told her
But they don't exist, those dreams he sold her
She'll wake up and find
There is no Arizona
He promised her a new and better life, out in Arizona
