thank you for this, Sam. I am trying to use a table that is not linked in hte model to do somehow something similar. the table i want to use would simply contain numbers from 1 to 10. i want to use this in a filter so that i change results based on this. tried to use it but somehow not work in my measures. any ideas?
Really great video. I use this technique all the time now. One thing I wish would be possible, is to click on one of these groups and cross filter other objects on the page. For instance in your example, clicking on "Poor Growth" should filter the customer list on the left to only show those customers that have poor growth. But since there is no relationship between the banding helper table and the customers this obviously doesn't work. Any idea how to achieve this? I thought of maybe writing a measure filter that uses VALUES of the grouping table and then returns a 1 or a 0 based on whether the current customer falls into the currently selected segments but I don't know where to start to get really concrete.
I was way overthinking this. Actually quite easy ... here for anybody else that wants to add this. I added this measure and then put it on the customer table with a filter = 1. This enabled cross filtering. var minSelected = MIN('Sales Growth Groups'[Min]) var maxSelected = MAX('Sales Growth Groups'[Max]) var checkIfInBand = if([Sales Growth]=minSelected,1,0) return checkIfInBand
You noted that in order to create dynamic segmentation that a "supporting table" is needed. Is there way to make the supporting table dynamic and based on slicer values? Perhaps a virtual table could work but I have not sure how...thoughts?
Hi jbenhabib, Thank you for posting your query onto our channel. We really appreciate you taking your valuable time to post it. Well, firstly your query is not clear to us here pertaining to the - "make the supporting table dynamic and based on slicer values". And secondly, the answer is - No, they cannot be created or implemented virtually. We're providing a link below that will help you in understanding the concept about how tables work and how they can be used? And what are the characteristics and features of each type of table. It's pretty nice but nos as dynamic as I've expected. I have an issue where I want to create currency bins, like percentiles (ideally 10 bins). Each of those bins should represent 10% of the max value for my currency measure. the graph would be filtered on some dimension so the currency values are changing a lot and I can't make the min and max values "static". So for instance if I have the filter on value "A" and this means that my currency is equal to 100, I want to have 10 bins incrementing by 10 (10, 20, 30, ... , 100). If I have on value "B" of my filter the currency value 200, I want to have the bins values to be equal to 20, 40, 60, ... , 200. I can't find an easy and practical way to do so. Does anyone have an idea or reference link to do so ? Thanks a lot :)

Hello Don’t know why but the values from the band are not correct in my case after checking with the data source I have replaced the countrows by simple BandMeasure < MAX (BandMax) and > MIN(BandMin) to have the correct values
Hey Sam does this rely on relationships in your model, I tested it in my scenario the Dax code is the equivalent but it doesn’t render any results trying to work out why this would be (the results would be within the ranges set-up) ASPH By ASPH Banding = CALCULATE ( [ASPH], FILTER( VALUES ( GroupCostCentres[Full Name] ), COUNTROWS ( FILTER ( 'ASPH Banding', [ASPH] >= 'ASPH Banding'[Min] && [ASPH] < 'ASPH Banding'[Min] ) ) > 0 ) )
Hello W Atkinson, thank you for posting your query onto our channel. Well, the answer here is "NO". This doesn't rely onto the "Relationship". It's always a little bit difficult to judge and provide the results without looking at the data structure, model and working of the PBIX file for the reference. The reason it could not be providing the results appropriately is because you might now have created the intervals correctly or the base measure might be missing something. And therefore we encourage you to please write back to us onto our Community Forum by providing the proper description of the problem that you're facing along with the PBIX file for the reference as well as the mock-up results that you're trying to achieve where our members as well as experts team will be able to assist you in a better and efficient manner.
