New Zealand farmers break world record for wheat growing. Ashburton farmers Eric and Maxine Watson have broken the world record for wheat growing. The couple produced 16.791 tonnes per hectare .IH Case www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/91162354/new-zealand-farmers-break-world-record-for-wheat-growing .
It's an interesting piece of equipment. One thing that always bothers me with sales pitches like these - Straw chopped and left in the field is not "unexploited". Removal of the straw takes away nutrients that then need to be replaced with fertilizer. Unless the farmer spreads manure back on the field, the organic matter is nearly irreplaceable. Farmers that do not need the straw for their operation need to calculate whether or not selling the pellets is cost effective.
A lot of farmers sell the straw and usually brings in much more money than the added fertilizer costs. As for the organic matter you are correct that it can't be replaced unless you fertilize with manure.
@@rrmtnfarmer3273 You are right. that's why I said the farmer would have to work it out. I live in an area that has a lot of livestock production and straw is in demand for animal bedding and feed. I still chopped my straw back on the ground due to concerns of profitability, until the past year. I had my rye straw big square baled and I sold it off for $65 per bale. That is good money for 600 lbs of straw. Otherwise, it benefits my operation more being spread on the field. Now, in Europe where they're trying to get out from under the thumb of needing Russia's natural gas. Maybe burning off their biomass and trying to replace it with synthetics could pencil out. Right now the Germans are literally destroying villages (look up Hambach surface mine) to get to brown coal, and this is definitely better than that... Probably don't want to get into global politics here, though.
@@farmerboybill very true, each operation is different and needs to do what works for them. @@rrmtnfarmer3273 When leaving it in the field the additional fuel cost for chopping the straw must be added to the calculation. Even if the farmer only manages break-even with bales, the fuel saving on combining may make it worthwhile.

Hemp and wooden fiber are not approved. Only straw from stalk crops (wheat / barley / rye, triticale etc.) and hay (made from grass and alfalfa) is possible.
I really do not see this being realistic as a field pull behind unit if that is how fast it travels. We were always in a race against the weather, or to get the next crop into the ground of field work. The mounted unit look much more realistic.
So far we don’t have problems with rocks. Normally the machine doesn’t pick them up due to the slow forward speed in the field. Second protection is a rock separation between Pick-up and first belt. If a rock makes it into the machine, it is crushed by the rollers or it stops the machine - depending on the size of the rock. The rollers are made of such a hard material, that no serious damages are expected.
I think that's one of the reasons Deere abandoned further development back in the '70s on their cuber. The cubes were bigger than those pellets, but cattle would still occasionally choke on them. I think this machine definitely has its uses though
Pellets from hay, lucerne and straw make excellent base rations. Research has found that high-fibre pellets show distinctly fewer traces of pathogens and mould than straw. This is proof of their high quality for use as animal feed. There are also customers using the pellets for bedding because of their excellent absorption qualities.
