US Men's players make so much more in professional leagues that they don't really even care about the US National pay. On the other hand, the women don't have those kinds of opportunities, so their pay to represent the US actually allows them to train like professionals.
You really don't understand the fundamentals of the situation. The argument is not that the women are better players or even more entertaining. But a gold medal and World Cup win are arguably worth more than the US men just showing up and putting nothing in the trophy case or worse, not even qualifying for the tournament.

@@seymourglass26 Women just deserve to get money to go off and play football? That's charity, not a professional sport.
I don't think its the other people here who don't understand the fundamentals. The argument is that the women are poor players and less entertaining... that's why most people don't watch. Revenue comes from attendances and sponsorship. Winning a women's gold medal and a women's World Cup are not worth more, because very few people care. Most people watch sports because they enjoy watching the best teams compete, and the women's competition is at a level barely commensurate with moderately talented 13 and 14 year old boys.
So, while the men's team isn't that successful, that's because there are a lot more talented men's national teams around the world, compared to what, maybe a dozen in women's football.

@@BowlCrossy Yeah, things like national teams are exhibitions about pride, not commercial endeavors toward making money. That's what the Olympics are based on, my guy. So yeah, when we pay a shot-putter or some other sport that people don't really care about, that's charity and national pride in one.

I’m so tired of people making a big deal about these 7 on 7 tournaments. It’s not the US women’s team, that said it actually includes more USWNT talent than the team that lost to the Wrexham squad - which if people weren’t aware included like 3 current players who just hadn’t signed new contracts at the time.
Actually look at these rosters before making broader assumptions. That said…the actual USWNT would also probably get their ass handed to them by a squad of actual retired men’s pro players.

Females are pack gatherers. They are better at low energy consumption gathering and telling the difference between colors smells and tastes and remembering where they hid their stashes of nuts or berries. They don't have to coordinate with each other they just make sure that everyone is more or less happy and safe.

Spatial awareness is completely on a different league with men than with women.. I dunno, for football I prefer mens football to womens football. But womens football have improved alot the last 20 years actually, the quality is much higher than it was.
However, for some other sports, due to the level of the men being "too high", it's more fun to watch the women, like handball, or even in some cases things like tennis. But well, handball is my "perfect" example, the mens version is just so fast that it's difficult to keep up with what is going on. The womens version is just right for spectators.
And well, unlike in most other sports, in most handball nations the handball women are more popular than the handball men. I'm not a big fan of volleyball, but I think the same applies there.

But one of the women on the field is 51, several others are well past their prime. A few still play professionally in places, but most are retired or semi retired. This is simply for fun and none of the ladies or young men on the field expected the outcome to be much different.

This is a solid training idea for the women's team though. Good exposure to a pace that their competition can't keep up with. I hope it helps their development for continued sucess. I played competitive tennis and early teens was when the level separation between the boys and girls became apparent but the girls always benefitted a ton from facing serve speeds and angles that their competition couldn't produce. Just makes you a tougher competitor and exposes areas for improvement. Good stuff!

These scrimmages are intentionally scheduled to prepare the women for upcoming tournaments or matches.
The team and staff understand that it is going to be a tough challenge going into it.
They are usually scheduled against an academy team of young men.
The boys are mostly quicker, faster, stronger, and especially more aggressive than female competition.
It only makes sense as the women come away from it more prepared for their upcoming official matches.
The academy boys benefit as well. The ladies teams are well organized and professional.
