Raiders still stands out, to me, as one of the greatest movies of all time. I can watch it again and again without getting bored. It's just a perfect storm of story, director, actors, special effects, sound design and, once again, John William's powerful musical score. Just a really great movie that anyone can enjoy.

"The father of Skywalker Sound, Ben Burtt."
I would have thought the father of Skywalker was Darth Vader.

As an engineer, I've been fascinated by the sounds in movies. I try to immerse myself when watching a movie the first time, the 2nd time, however, I pay attention to the sounds and try to guess how they're made. Foley artists never get enough credit (or money). An actor just has to be human, but a Foley artist has to invent/engineer something special all the time.

Fantastic video! From a long time Indy fan! This is my number one movie. I had seen the film many times in the theaters during the initial release and the soundtrack was awesome. Too bad a whole generation of fans did not get to experience the audio enjoyment when it was on broadcast television. I was able to see it again at a special screening in Los Angeles of all three films a few years ago with a group of fans wearing Indy gear. Again the sound detail onscreen was much higher than my 7.1 surround system running Blu Ray discs. After the films they had a secret guest speaker - Producer Frank Marshall for a Q and A.
I have all of the gear, several jackets from Wested in England and half a dozen of the Herbert Johnson Poet style fedoras. I'm here from the Club Obi Wan on Indygear.com forum where your video was linked.

Definitely! You can help spread the word by reposting my videos on sound design forums that are on Facebook, Reddit, etc. I also highly recommend forums like those, BTW, since you're learning.
Again, great work on the T1 redesign!

Raiders of the lost ark is truely made by people who love what they do AND know how to do it. That's the way the best things get done.

Still the best movie of its type/genre made. Lucas and Spielberg at their absolute mightiest, artistically. And of course like with Star Wars, the sound design was the icing on the cake that cemented a new level of immersion and experience in watching movies. They wrote the Bible on making big-time blockbusters which remains gospel to this day. Raiders is a perfect movie.

Mark Mangini working with Ben Burtt is like when David Bowie and Freddie Mercury teamed up, though I’m sure Mark was more an apprentice role

I have ZERO clue why modern sound effect editors don't put the depth they had in the sounds in this movie. It was so amazing you could have an entire episode just on the sounds. No one. No one has done this.

This rules big time, because it gives people the idea about how sound design works in plenty of Indiana Jones movies. Ben Burtt is the man for that, LOL. I didn't know that his wife was a good cook regarding the snake sound effect for the Snake Pit scene of the movie, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. When it comes to watching The Streets of San Francisco with a family member that I live with at home, we discover that most of the body blow sounds that we hear together are recorded by a foley artist.

LOL, the snakes were cheese casserole.

Why the fuck do people think snakes are slimy???? They’re just not. They’re very smooth and not slimy at all. Weird.
