For those unaware, the animation and art issues in this episode and parts of other episodes were mostly fixed (emphasize mostly fixed) in the blue ray releases of haikyuu season 4. Episode 15 in the blue ray release looked significantly better than what is currently out on streaming platforms. For those wondering if they will be updating the streaming version to the blue ray release, they most likely will not for a while. However, production ig does movies versions for the big matches that have retouched animated and art scenes found in the blue ray release. The hopes are that they will release a movie version of this match before the release of haikyuu season 5. That will most likely be the most ideal way to watch the match if people were so bugged out by one episode and some awkward shots.

I have the blue ray copy of volumes 2-3 and the quality is most likely similar to that where they adjusted a few keyframes of animation and art as well added some. The art was the major problem of the episode in my eyes. Like it reminded me a typical non-budget black clover episode.
I never noticed the strange lack of details and shadows in this episode. But now that I see it I still don’t understand why people dropped the show because of it. 😂😂 like it wasn’t that deep

Like if you take into consideration already having a strict budget for the season, covid messing up schedules which they have been heavily behind since part 1 (the reason why they delayed the second part for about 6 months) and relying on new and inexperienced staff due to the directors leaving for other projects you can see how there might be problems with the production side of this season. Even with all of those problems the season turned out really solid IMO and gave us some of the best animated/emotional moments in the entire series to this point.

Only noticed it with all the comments about it and rewatching through other reactions and thought 'huh yeah that IS weird', but nothing that would completely ruin the match or season for me

This episode was made when the Covid pandemic first appeared, making Production I.G. experiencing huge financial problems that make the anime making process not optimal. Not to mention the existence of social distancing making animators and studio crews have difficulty in the process of making anime haikyuu. That's what i know.

It's just that the animation from S1-S3 are just way too f*cking consistent. Studios normally tend to take shortcuts as much as possible and invest animation in the moments that have a lot of impact. Prior seasons I often found myself wondering how the studio was as consistent as they were.
