This is absolutely incredible to watch. We do these in just about every Aikido Class in the AWA, AAA, and Ki Society schools. But to watch the man who created the exercises run thru them all, amazing.
The crudest interpretation would be ai = life, ki = energy, tai = body, so = harden. When tai and so are used together it means conditioning. This can range from stretching to hardening of the bones for strikes. Aikido is not about striking though. The best translation would be aikido conditioning.
Thank you for the post. I always find it interesting to observe the differences in style that exist between different practitioners who ostensibly practice the same art. Rather than get hung up on which one is "right" or better, my personal interest is in broadening my horizons and expanding my mind. @edmanr2003 he isn't, it's koichi tohei, teaching shin-shin-toitsu-do. one of the principles is to let your breath flow naturally.
