    Congrats Mike. Success when building your own stuff really feels great. Could hear it in your voice the first time you keyed it.
    Thanks for the mention, and I'm glad you found it helpful.
    It was nostalgic in a way, watching you put it together. My hands are about that unstable now, so it was just as nerve racking for me when I first made the mod. :-)

      Wow, thanks! A little bit nerve wracking for sure but it works. Still does too! Thanks for figuring this out. I'd have never been about to do that. Now stop! I don't need more projects tearing apart my gear lol!

    So far, every IC-705 owner I’ve met who uses this amp, simply puts a mini phone jack on it and it works great. I have not heard of anyone ever having a problem. I’ve been using one myself like this for a year. I use it constantly in the field. By the way Mike, keep up the videos. I never miss any of them. We need more people like you out there to encourage amateur radio operators to get out and get on here. Thanks for doing what you do.

      Yeah I didn't want to have that voltage coming back into my radio. If a $200 amp breaks, that's one thing, but I don't want anything to happen to my 705. Knowing my luck, bad things would happen. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. 73

    Now you can just put the USB-C replacement board in the 705. The replacement board has more protections on the key circuit.

    Mike that diode is a 1N914 general purpose diode

    • @wecontrolthevideo
      @wecontrolthevideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And BTW that is a “signal” diode (not single)

    • @davidmayes1912
      @davidmayes1912 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honest question from someone who is not an electrical engineer: Can you tell from the video that it is a 1N914 and not something like a 1N4148 and would either of those two be interchangeable here? (I'd presume so from Kevin's description of "any" signal diode, but figured I'd throw out the question since this is not my realm - thanks!)

    Mike - fellow hammers tell me that I should NOT directly connect to the MX-P50M and should use a Relay Buffer Interface to protect my Finals. Others say this was for older Amps? What are your thoughts about the need to use an RBI to protect my Radio?

    Mike, I cannot get it to work. After installing the mod, the amp goes into transmit when powered on (not attached to the 705 yet). I made 3 of the mods and all do the same thing. Any thought to what I'm doing wrong?

  • @Bill-HRT

    I am guessing, somebody correct me please, that that one-pin connector is because you only need direct the drive signal though the plug and ground comes through another place like the antenna ground and you don't necessarily need it on the plug itself???

    I believe I would have tapped the DC source into the power switch of the amp, otherwise it will be live anyting power is attached to the amp. By going through the switch, it is off when the amp is off !

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough question David. The 7300 is certainly going to be a better all around radio than the 705 with the amp. But the amp is only $200. You could always try the amp first, if it works, great, if not, upgrade to the 7300.
