My runaway favorite episode of Space 1999 is
War Games, wich was directed by believe it or not
      Charles Crietian, a director
more famous for his comedies. It was a great story, well acted and devine
      direction. I have many other
      favorites ie, Alpha Child,
Force Of Life, Brian The Brain, The New Adam And Eve, End Of Enternity,
      The Laws Of Luton etc
      the list is endless.

that eats people the excretes them is one of the most horrorfing creatures
      in tv history.

      stared horror legend
Christopher Lee at his very best but actors actor Mr
Robert Dortrice, and I thought that ending was
very sad, i felt sorry for him,
      and it was accompanied by
      joyful happy music, dose
      burn into my memorie.

I’ll say this for Gerry: he had a good heart. It’s refreshing to see how well he liked Freddie.

My kid brother (aged six), found the clump of trees (the 'judges'), to be extremely creepy, to the point of me guaranteeing him a sleepless night, by pointing out a similar clump when we went out in the car with our parents at the weekend.
I have apologized about this, since.

Hmmm. “The Rules of Luton” is somewhat reminiscent of “The Great Vegetable Rebellion” of Lost in Space.

I'm sure plenty of Brits only know Luton from the old advert:
"Were you truly wafted here from paradise?"
    "No, Lu'on airport."

I've grown to love Series 2, but not as much as the beloved Series 1. Oddly, I like Series 2 for the opposite reasons I like Series 1. Freiberger was very good at adding a driving action and panache to the show, but at a cost to the intense and sublime atmosphere of the first season. All in all, I'm very happy there was a Season 2, but I wish the show was able to evolve and transition more smoothly from Season 1. The later episodes of Series 1 clearly show that the show was naturally heading in a direction of portraying richer characters and deeper human interaction, while maintaining superb story writing and FX.

My opinion of “The Rules of Luton” has always been that it’s one of the worst series 2 episodes yet with some of the best background story moments between Koenig and Maya.

I noticed that but I think they meant "early series of Star Trek" in the sense of how we old school Trek heads say "The Original Series" or STTOS.

Hello and a very good morning to you Richard and Jamie that was very interesting seeing the town of Luton on the M1 motorway sign post for a idea for a space 1999 story and for all the other space 1999 episodes I don't evan know the names of each of those episode's of space 1999 what made space 1999 a cult classic was the iconic theme music for each of Gerry Anderson's Shows it's the iconic theme music that makes the shows a classic

It's good to hear that Gerry thought it was a stupid name for the episode too and to hear him say Fred brought some terrible ideas to the table. To be fair to Fred though, he was appointed by ITC America to re-tool the show to a younger audience (especially in the US) and keep the production budget down and keep the episodes flowing. As a result the second series felt cheaper and the scripts were sometimes quite bad (much like in series 3 of Star Trek). You can't entirely blame Fred for it as he was working under orders and perhaps Gerry knew this and empathised with him, knowing Fred was in a difficult position. Nonetheless for Fred to think 'Luton' sounded exotic and alien is hilarious and Gerry knew it too.

Ta for clearing that up. Previously, when I've read out that title, all I could ever think was "Luton for the cup!". It's nice to know why it's there.
P.S. Since you ask about favourite episodes, "The Mark of Archanon" is up there, in my estimation. Maybe not my absolute favourite, but I certainly like it.

I was very young when this show was on TV, but I always remembered this episode best because of the aliens. After watching it again recently I’ve noticed that the episode uses a little too much exposition between Koenig and Maya. Maybe it was to fill time, or to develop the characters. But it should have used that time with them setting traps for the aliens instead.
Tony in season 2 is very annoying. The cast from season 1 was better, although Maya is a good addition. Paul in season 1 was better. They tried to turn season 2 into an action oriented show and thought Tony Verdeschi would be better as a handsome co-lead for action. But he grates on your nerves more than anything. Alan was a better guy to play second action lead to Koenig.

Freiberger ruined Space 1999. He may have been a nice guy generally, but I think I heard he could be a real jerk when he didn't get his way at work. The second season was dogshit. The first season had elements of thought-provoking science fiction, speculative fiction, and yes even horror built into it that somehow all came together very well. Then Fred came onboard and screwed it all up, and the show was canceled. I was 7 years old at the time, and even remember seeing the promo Martin and Barbara did on channel 11 here in New York, which was the local station that carried the show. You can even see that promo here on TH-cam. . . .

It's a remake of Frederic Brown's short story "Arena," also made by Star Trek TOS.
