Yes, he actually did have tears in his eyes. (There is a behind-the-scenes video). He said it was the bridge where his vocals sound like wailing. He actually held back the tears because, he said, “it would not make the song more sad.” To me, that means, even in the moment he knew, part of the torture of the song is someone holding on to something. 💔 As opposed to Journey and the line “when the tears fill my eyes, I can cry.” A letting go song. ❤️🩹 PS Yes, the violins are real.
