yeah i forgot how this scene ended and expected turtle to walk out and then see Ari feeling a little bad about how hard he was on him. I didn't expect it to end with him saying "come back to me when you can prove it"
IT was great that Ari was a bombarding him with all those questions, it was a test to open Turtle's eyes and realize it's far more challenging that he thought. But then when Ari becomes sincere sitting down with Turtle, in a fatherly nature, that was also very helpful.
Ari obviously cared a lot about Turtle to even give him this hard lesson. Then later next season Turtle does come back when he can prove it (the Avion Tequila thing) but he quickly met Mark Cuban instead.
Ari was an excellent character even if it was just fictional. Honestly sometimes if I need a kick in the ass I’ll turn on some old Ari Gold moments. Ultimate motivator!
That is actually really good business advice at 1:58 "can you execute it. do you have a business plan. what do you need? office space? insurance? how many employees? what do you project to earn? what do you need to break even? at what point can your investors see some profit?"
Very practical questions and Ari was a good friend for asking Turtle those questions. He never once blew him off he even gave him a genuine invite to come back when he gets his ducks in a row.
01:40 - 0:153 One of the rare moments where Ari isn't making fun of Loyd, but putting him on a pedestal of respect, making a positive example of him. It's awesome to watch given Loyd is a sensitive guy that works very diligently and deals with a lot.
Ari knew how much potential Lloyd had and the only reason he may have been reluctant to make him an agent was because Lloyd was so outstanding as Ari's assistant and he didn't want to lose him as such. He later gets Jake and ends up liking him too.
Great scene. Great lesson for everyone. Ari is right on point here. People that doesn't have money and want to start something with only a simple idea should really watch this, re-watch it & watch it again. Learn from it. I love it even at the end, Ari still was harshly-nice enough to push Turtle to his first step "Come back to me when you can prove it" Great acting from Ari in this scene.
Exactly. He knows that Drama and Eric (while both enjoying the success of Vince) actually did their own things and while Turtle tried to promote a rapper (which fell flat) he never really did anything on his own. Ari liked him and needed to give it to him straight.
I always found it interesting that Ari initial advice to Turtle was just to enjoy his luck and role in Vince's life. I've always seen the "come back to me when you can prove it" as a vote of confidence.
he could of told him that and sent him on his way he was testing just how badly and how serious turtle .seeing as how he interrupted aries business to talk to him about business .i forgot which actor it was but i remember years ago reading about and interview with and established actor who was asked .what does he tell aspiring actors who come to him for advice .he responds by telling them don't be and actor .its reverse psychology the ones who are really series will just ignore him and use his words as motivation to pursue being and actor in the business .the ones who arent so serious will take his words seriously i feel like this is what ari did for turtle and it paid off in his favor

Entourage gets looked down as low brow entertainment when it actually had well written scenes with real heart. Watching how crafted and put together this scene really shows more depth in the characters and their growth. Ari spoke real truth that Turtle needed to hear. Great scene and one that the youth can learn from.
Entourage had about3 great seasons in it. The problem was like most other TV shows they dragged it out as long as possible and the majority of it was not good.
Turtle may been as a loser but I respect the fact that he realized he was a loser and decided to better himself. At the end of the day, he became a millionaire.
slidejones The only reason he became a millionaire was because Vince wiped his butt and didn't sell his shares. If Turtle had done it 100% on his own, he'd be delivering pizzas.
Ari is a classic character! This is one of his best scenes. The audience is allowed inside his mind and heart to see how he thinks and feels. Truly! The bravado is hilarious but the moments where he drops his guard are the most touching. He deeply cares about those in his life and is relentless to show that affection. Golden age of television for HBO: Tony Soprano ran Jersey, Ari Gold ran Hollywood.
The fact that Ari leaves his meeting to attend to Turtle because he thinks it's for Vince but when he realizes it isn't he's automatically back in the meeting lmao
Turtle had the best arc of the show. Started off as a loyal loser with no respect for himself or others. He started working, tried different things, guy a degree, struggled, fell on his ass, and came out a millionaire. In season one, Turtle hit on the airline stewardess' with crude jokes. In his last scene in the show, he shakes hands with the airline stewardess, greeting as mature equals, before boarding. He grew up, but his loyalty never wavered
What makes Ari Gold so unique, in my opinion, is that he's got a solid ego and is definitely a narcissist, but his character somehow has found the balance between his narcissistic traits and him trying to genuinely be a good man.
Due to all the unveiling of the D-baggery that is Hollywood in the 10 years or so. This show has really aged poorly. People on both sides of the political isle have cause to despise the characters in this show. That said, I like many others loved this show during its original run. However, this entire Turtle arch was out of touch and poorly written. I do believe they where trying to make Turtle the every man of the group, but instead he came across as petty and entitled. All the things Ari mentioned here are true. Turtle had no plan, no concept of a day to day grind work ethic, only a sense of inadequacy among his peers for inspiration. However, unlike young and new entrepreneurs Turtle had no life stress. Turtle was living in a mansion rent free, he did not have to pay for auto insurance, internet bills, groceries or any other life expenses. Above else he had a massive safety net in the case of failure, something 95% of entrepreneurs do not have. I hated this arch and while Turtle was never my favorite character. I never disliked him either, during this arch I despised his character.
He did. In this same season he lets go of Drama as a client just so Lloyd can take him on as a client because he knows Lloyd would be able to give Drama way more attention and focus on his career whereas Ari has tons of clients and doesn't care yet he would've lost money by letting Drama go. Ari didn't care about the money because he saw Drama as a friend first, and he even tells him that.
disregarding every other thing brilliant about this scene, can we talk about how he propped up Lloyd to make his point and didn't even insult him once while doing it? He even referred to him as "this man" and then dismisses him with a not unaffectionate pat on the back
Jeremy Piven captured the spirit of Ari Emanuel amazingly. There should be a spinoff show based on Ari Gold. All that Doug Ellin would need to do is write more about the professional life of Ari Emanuel as the emphasis, and again use Ari Gold in the show as the lead character
This clip is underrated but it really shows how simple the formula is. The only hard part where most folks have failed is applying it. In this entire show, the only person working the hardest out of everyone was Ari. Not even Eric or Vince could keep up.
I miss this show so much. My late teens and early twenties was consumed by it. Ari made it what it was. He was a dick, but he had a big heart. He just was a tough love typa guy lol.
Ari obviously genuinely cared about and mentored all 4 of the guys. He tells E during season 6 how proud of him he was for not taking no for an answer when defending his client, Charlie. He willingly lets Drama go with Lloyd instead of selfishly keeping Drama just for the small commission, he tried to help Turtle here, and he also went to bat for Vince tons of times. Ari is very loyal to people he cares about.

A lot of people might watch this scene and think Ari is being too harsh, but he’s actually teaching Turtle a very important business lesson; everyone thinks they have a great idea but what many fail to realize is that even beginning to make your idea a reality takes a lot of hard work. And if you’re not in a position in which you can bankroll your idea yourself, you’re going to need people to back you, but you’ll never be able to win those people over unless you provide them with a clear vision and how exactly you plan on seeing it through.

Claudia Duran I don’t need loans and I never will. I’m just saying that cars hold value. Turtle’s quarter million dollar car will have let’s say a collateral of only $10K, but it still has value to the bank.
It's all about execution. You could have the best, most technically brilliant product or idea, but if you don’t execute on the bigger picture-advertising, creating an image, building a community or subculture around it-it’s like your product doesn’t even exist. It reminds me of a band analogy: even the most technically skilled musicians can go unnoticed if they don’t find a way to connect with an audience. Without a clear plan for promotion, an image, and something that resonates culturally, the music-or the product-might as well not matter. Getting a product out into the world is strange and incredibly difficult. Even Steve Wozniak, the genius behind Apple’s early tech, admitted that without Steve Jobs, the Macintosh might have been forgotten, collecting dust in some obscure tech shop. It’s not just about having something great; it’s about finding a way to make people care. you have to have some mystical power that I dont have. But I guess the point is to build the perfect product first and then figure out the next step. or cant just wish something happen without putting in the work.
Ari Gold has to be one of the funniest characters ever written in TV and Movie history. I've never laughed so much while watching something in my life. Jeremy Piven was perfect.
