      I have an ongoing love affair with that little arrow, you will see more of him as time goes on. We first met last year building wooden PC case, he has since grown to do many other things...Thanks for watching. I loved your build too!

      Thanks man, I really focused a lot of sound design and a more consistent color grade. It is also nice with the new camera that I can rely on auto focus to accomplish a few things I otherwise couldn't have ever done.

    Awesome safety tips, Rick! My first try with a table saw (just a week or two ago) resulted in injury, so it's important to go over those tips for beginners for sure. Great project!

      Thanks so much Sarah. I always have to remind myself to be super conscious of safety with the camera running and so many things going on in the shop while I work. Any spinning blade tool needs all of your intention when you're using it.

      Thanks brother, it was fun to just build something simple for once and be able to focus more on the video. The new camera certainly helps too. You are using premiere right? Have you tried any of the new features in 2018.1?

    Nice, really like the colour; makes a good acoustic diffuser as well.

    • @WoodWorkLIFE
      @WoodWorkLIFE  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It would be even better if you used a quadratic pattern for the depth of the pieces but it will diffuse a few frequencies pretty well. I could figure them out, but I don't feel like doing math...

    Hi, you can use painters tape doubled up on both sides of the blade if you dont have a zero clearance insert available. Actually just used that method on mine for the small rips that were getting caught between the blade. Very dangerous otherwise. Try it and let me know if it works for you. Take care & thanks for sharing.

    Looks good! Do you think you could apply the Shou-sugi-ban finishing technique to this? Possibly for an outdoor patio piece.

    • @WoodWorkLIFE
      @WoodWorkLIFE  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh hell ya, but Shou Sugi Ban really takes best to White Oak though, so I would build it out of White Oak if I were going to do that. The dark color might take away some from the shadow lines though so YMMV.

    • @heyimamaker
      @heyimamaker 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point! Actually one of those flowing wood carvings in white oak with Shou Sugi Ban might look interesting. Maybe even topographical.

  • @jackstrange4828

    Use wide blue tape for an emergency zero clearance insert. Just apply the tape over the existing insert opening in one long strip, then raise the blade to the height you need for the cuts you are making.

  • @TheCHRISCaPWN

    Well done. 1 question though: why not just use wood glue?

    • @KagedCreations08XX
      @KagedCreations08XX 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      likely due to drying time and clamping requirements, but i'm interested if it's another reason.

    • @WoodWorkLIFE
      @WoodWorkLIFE  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, I answered it in the blog post but it didn't make it into the voice over. I used loctite power grab so that I didn't have to clamp or nail anything as I went, you just press it in and it stays until it is dry.

    • @TheCHRISCaPWN

      Wood.Work.LIFE. That makes sense. Thanks!

  • @BJKerstetterDevelementary
    @BJKerstetterDevelementary 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why did you use construction adhesive instead of wood glue? Awesome art btw, love it!

    • @WoodWorkLIFE
      @WoodWorkLIFE  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      because construction adhesive doesn't REQUIRE clamping. It also has tack when it is wet so the pieces don't shift around as much.

  • @presbarkeep
    @presbarkeep 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would have liked a nude stain, or just clear coat, to let the natural shape of the wood create its own shadows and contrast rather than try to force something with walnut stain.. but.. still looks neat.
