- Carmel or Carmel-by-the-Sea is a city in Monterey County, California. Located in the bay of the same name on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
The city is primarily known for its picturesque landscapes, artistic bohemia, and the beautiful building of Carlo Borromeo's mission. Such famous people as Jack London and Robinson Jeffers lived here. In 1986, the famous actor and director Clint Eastwood was elected mayor of the city.
