Stay in the Woods,
Dan
A lot of channels have people convinced that they MUST have a $300 "bushcrafting knife" if they want to get by in the woods when a $20 Mora is all they'll ever need.
You need a benchmade bushcraft knife tho…
@@djsnglzz Right? Only peasants would shave a feather stick with a Cold Steel cheapie that was on clearance for $10.
My lil red boi scout knife does the job
Mora makes great knives. $20, durable, etc.
@@atomic_wait that's a fact.
It's always refreshing to find channels where you know it's just safe to "like" before the video even starts. As always, quality tips with no fluff. Thanks, Dan!
As always, the obvious is not always so obvious. :)
And reminders are always appreciated too!
I love chewing beaver
Hey, Dan, why don't you do a video on the functions of a knife blade like the tip? What you use it for?
@@LooneyBinUK this particular video is; does that make it wrong to ask for other tips?
So easy, but as you’ve demonstrated- so easy to miss! Thank you for an another straightforward, valuable tip! Always a pleasure to learn from you.
😊Thanks Dan. Take care 😊
Looking forward to this series!!
Good morning from Syracuse NY brother
Good reminder of how biomechanics make good techniques. I also have found that rocking the knife slightly while push cutting can be helpful if needed.
Thanks Dan for the simplified explanation.
It should be common sense, but seemingly simple ideas can elude even really smart people. Luckily, once someone learns about leverage for one use, say like this one, they tend to use that knowledge everywhere it might apply. So a nice quick little video like this can do a whole lot of good in the long run.
Excellent visual tutorial
Dan is SO good at visual explanations! :)
You are spot on, good teaching method.
Thanks Dan
Thanks for the pressure point. lol
I saw u on alone I must say that you had no idea what to do but I wouldn't either 😂😂😂😂
As someone whos biggest problem are Hurricanes (just last week passed Norma and Lydia) I had to lean how to improve my Cuts. So, I mastered the Beaver Chew on both knife and Axe. Thanks for the explanation
Thanks for making this video. I keep thinking my knife is dull, and more experienced people say it's plenty sharp. Apparently it's me that is dull. But the only way to fix that is to keep learning and practicing!! Seems like this technique would also make it easier to make feather sticks and do other sorts of cutting--am I correct?
Thanks Dan
How lucky do I feel right now? I bought my Zombie Apocalypse Knife from a TV Infomercial at 2:48 am. Sheeeesh, that was a close call.
thanks for the lesson.
excellent
Mors Kochanski always recommended a blade no wider than the width of your palm and I've followed that advice ever since. But whatever blade you have practice is key.
Bever chew 😄, i was hopping by the thumbnail u were going to teach us the proper technique to making feather sticks
Great tip friend
Great advice Dan 👍
Thats why i love carving with the Mora eldris its amazing for a small carving/ fixed pocket knife or neck knife, you have no choice but to be close up to your wrist because the blade is stubby
On the sword the strong part is called the forté. Use the forté to make the beaver cut
Awesome Video... Short, Sweet and to the point... kind of like my wife 🙂
Always informative. Thanks for doing these videos.
I use old carbon bladed kitchen knives . They take an keep a good edge , strong an very versatile .
Awesome and epic video as always thank you so much for making it ❤️👍
I remembered you a few minutes ago im getting ready to do winter camping in Russian tent and van i remember you organize your gear in pouches containers very important especially if moving fast different sleep place every night or day i have large medium totes little items bushcraft tools lose some in trays mixed up. i like to have spares of certain tools. need friends relay, rally. To much stuff slow us down. fast, and furious future. words cant fully get it. Good to be farmers help farmer friends security getting more scace
I never thought I'd hear about concepts they discuss in HEMA videos, such as Matt Easton's Scholagladiatora, in a bushcraft video.
I totally agree, Dan! Using a knife CCORRECTLY prevents working as hard as a Beaver with 2 SETS of TEETH!
Nice wrist watch, I got the Fenix 5x and love it!
Many years ago i thinned the edge at the bottom two inches on the knife i was using most often in the woods so it would be better for wood work like this. My friends thought i was crazy for modifying an expensive knife and changing the edge geometry like that, until they saw it in action.
Interesting. Care to elaborate what exactly you did to your knife?
That's why I carried three things a knife, a machete, Corona saw the knife I used it to cut meat , small things
Good tips bro 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Good to know
I can't believe you had to explain that to folks.
That is something that I've learned decades ago in school. It's called classical mechanics.
It's a physics thing. It's how you measure torque (torque = radius x force). The greater the radius (distance from pivot point to where the force is applied), the greater the torque. It's how levers work. If you don't want the lever to move, either decrease the radius, decrease the force applied, or add another stabilization point to prevent radial motion.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
As they say in martial arts, the power comes from the belly. Same thing applies in knife arts.
Thought ya was going to say the knife bends. Lol
Nice job on video and showing off the beaver chew technique . Dam, it's a good tool for the toolbox!! Keep up the hard work on videos , nicely done.

Ace stuff
I have an original Becker BK-7 combat utility knife. I told my kids BK stands for Bear Killer. lol 😋
It was a gift but I didn't carry it for too long. I went back to my Buck 110 folding knife I bought when in the Army in the 1970s. It has served me well all these years. I only cut tarp/tent pole size trees/saplings. If I want to play Bushman, I'll bring along my Bear Killer 7.
Would wobble sticks have been made of wood? Or would they have been made of a metal to get a really accurate parallel and straight stick?
i think you should keep a few bits of wood around and do a little something with them almost every day. modern life does not call for a lot of knife work and just getting one in your hand will make second nature when you need it.
I thought beaver chew was… nm
thanks for the learning
Common sense went out the door long ago , now people need this demo !
I am pretty sure with everything I do, it is always me.
What? My Zombie Apocalypse Knife is a piece of crap not even fit to spread mayonnaise on bread? Oh my lord! I’m screwed!!! Great video!
I bought my Zombie Apocalipse knife from the TV infomercial at 2:45 am, so that's a good knife yes? 🙂
Don’t just push the blade, rock it back and forth.
I really cannot imagine using a knife except in the proper way, perhaps because it was schooled into me so early in life by my dad. Who taught him I wonder, but considering his dad was a boot maker, he would have known how to use a knife too.
Hey! I bought _MY_ Zombie Apocalypse Knife ( _in tacticool blackout predator camouflage_ ) at two forty SIX A.M. --------- _not_ 2:47 AM ----- so it AIN'T my fault!
Can you have waited 2 minutes like I did? 2:48
@@deadmanswife3625 Meh. Sorry. ADD with poor impulse control.
@@zippitydoodah5693 sorrowfully it is that way with me also Zippity Doo Dah
I've never heard of this . What is it for ? What does one do with it ?
So what is the beaver chew method of cutting ?
Duh , great common sense video for those that are mechanically challenged. Love it.
If people don't understand physics they definitely need instruction.
The best survival knife you can have is the one you actually have on you when you find yourself in a survival situation, for me it was a 4in pocket knife because I carry it every day . You can have the best survival knife in the world but it doesn't do you any good at home .
It's common sense, but ya don't realize it until you see it or think about it a lot .... It's that way with a lot of things in life, but yeah good info and video
ok, it's not your knife, but what knife do you use in the video? it's a very nice design ;-) 2:01
Like. But I find it hard to believe that anyone wouldn't do that. I'm sure I've always done it this way, since I was very young, instinctively, when I didn't even know what bushcrafting was, but I grew up in a village, so I often played in nature. No one taught me how to do these things, but I tell you, I did it instinctively, because it is so OBVIOUS that these things are the easiest and most effective when done this way! The fact that someone has to be taught this is as shocking and strange to me as if it turns out that someone has to be taught how to breathe.
🔥🙏
someone did training methodology in army
Dan this is for you, "👍"
This is common sense, which is not all too common these days...
Where should I stay?
With me and your mom.
