  • Spending time on social media, gaming, and reading the news allow you to connect with your family, friends, community, and the world as a whole. But is your screen time getting in the way of being the best version of yourself? What are the dangers of consuming too much, and what is it getting in the way of? Omar Usman, author of Fiqh of Social Media, joins Sh. Abdullah Oduro and Ust. Morad Awad in the Iman Cave to discuss how to manage our digital tools while maintaining a strong sense of responsibility, focus, and prioritization in our lives.

Technology will always amplify whatever is in the heart. Just like how wealth will amplify what is in the heart.

May Allah bless you all. Truth of the matter is most of us grapple with doom-scrolling, and how it badly impacts and distracts us.

Asalam alaikum Wa rahmatu Allah wa barakatuh.
This is your brother khalid from west-asia. I'm 21 years old now. I've been struggling with social media addiction. I've been heavily impacted by it. More negative than positive. Even after so much hard work and attempts to cut off social media. I couldn't find enough reasons and it's safe to say i couldn't see the horizon of it and the benefits. And alhamdullah the examples and stories you three have laid out and pointed. Especially brother Omar Usman may allah grant him jannah. His words have brought a lot of things to my attention. And i'm willing to review this insight and take notes. Wallahi this is a huge deal for me. May allah be pleased with you all and may your hard work and efforts be accepted and rewarded. ❤❤

Alhamdulillah for this series! I am a female teacher who works with young children and I always think how do I educate them especially the young boys on how to have a firm belief and faith especially during this time that social media is everything for them. I realized there are problems that circulated among young boys where they confused with their identity and do not aware about what their roles for this ummah. Listening from all these mens point of view help me in reflecting how does boys think about themselves which then shapes their thoughts and actions when they become adult. May Allah bless.

Asslamu alaikum Brother, thank you so much for this topic. The question is how do we relate to social media, As a mother I was very observant how we are influenced 24/7 by the distraction of the phone we have? The laptop, All the social media on our phones. I remembered when my children were growing up I did not follow the trends of society and my adult children only had mobile when they were university, the desktop was in the living room where we would sit together and do the work and have chats.
The importance of family conversation like the brother was saying - if we become presence with our times and what is important and add value to our lives.
Young men needs these key topics to give them a space to reflect in their own life's, To be motivated to say ' NO' to unhealthy use of the Fiqh of social media. Good holistic family engagement is psychological healing and provides so much more.
