After an emotionally odd week (family loss + six new chickens gained), your video is just the tonic I need! Gets me thinking about nurture and new growth in such a positive way. And it's great to see how you're using the new potting bench. 🙏
To cut down plastic use I'm making most of my pots from paper. I have square wooden blocks at 1, 2 and 3 inch and I can easily make up to 50 an hour while watching TV! Not only is it less plastic but you can plant straight into the soil and the pot just decompises. Being square they fit neatly into square veg trays from the local supermarket which are being thrown away. Just fold the paper, wrap round the block leaving enough to fold across the base like a parcel. Packed in a tray they support each other.
Great video, can feel the passion when you speak about what you planting , you answered the questions I had about what to plant this month , glad I found your YT channel😊👍.
Jazakallahukhair - I'll be trying my best to grow some things this year. Just started some seeds at home - I'm a beginner so I really like your "what to grow in...." type videos
I’m a complete novice at growing, my first year growing this year. At the moment I have main crop potatoes in tubs growing and thinking about starting peas this weekend . So glad I found your channel, you make it easy to follow. Subscribed 👍
Great video and information thanks 👍 We've sewn Patty Pan squash hope they do ok one germinated so far hopefully others will follow. The bean seeds look like jewels so pretty isn't nature wonderful 😍 Oh and Pakora to look forward to yummy 👍
Thank you 🙏 🙏 Great video as always...👏👏👏 I've Just been thinking about re sowing lettuce, beetroot, radishes, brocoli.. Love to see what you recommend doing as weather improves a little. Think I sowed sweetcorn too early, some have done but most either didn't germinate or else just seemed to die back. Sowed few more today so hoping for better results. Interesting to know they like strong compost..Will add chicken manure when I report them. Wishing you and your family a wonderful week.
Sweetcorn hate cold and wet, so hopefully they should germinate but don't over water them. They're a grass so adding a bit of manure will give it the nitrogen boost it needs
Yes. No need to buy extra plastic. I reuse containers from mushrooms, butter, yogurt, ice cream tubs and toilet rolles. And i use the lids underneath so it doesn't get dirty from pot.
I dropped a squash seed in the ground 5 days ago. The plant sprouted and is now the same size as the ones I started indoors 2v weeks ago. Interesting experiment.
Direct sowing should de better because they don't go through that process of transplant shock, the only problem is the weather is not always on our side
We can grow watermelon here?! Really needed someone to watch for UK veg growing, I'm a beginner but not doing too bad. Found this video really helpful. Subscribed. ☺
I planted my Sweetcorn in February... they are currently 8 inches high healthy and just awaiting the last frost, I find its better to get them established then transfer outside as soon as the last frost has passed... this has worked for me. ( Plant in 2's in a 20x20 mm cell with compost, germination 3-5 days by a window .. shame I cannot post them here...
I don't go north of the M4 much, so I'm not great with accent's, out of interest what city is The garden in? Cheers for all the info I enjoyed the pain compost one Dave
Hi, I'm loving your channel! Thanks for all the info I've learned lots from you. Just one thing though, it would be useful if you used the word sowing not planting, this video was a little confusing in places. (For me at least!). Hope you don't mind me saying.. all the best.
sir ,one question, i see my garlic is getting ready and down 3 leaves r getting yellow, but from those down 3 leaves more new leaves r coming out, what is that can u tell.
Garlic needs about 8-10 months to do well. The older leaves do turn brown caused by lack of rain, wind or just age, as long as it's putting on plenty of green growth let it continue
Salaam, we are now almost the 2 week of May.. do you think it’s ok to take outside kodu and potol? I will be growing kodu in the ground and potol in a tub.. Any advice would be appreciated..
Salads like Lettuce, chard, spinach will do well indoors and microgreens as well as herbs like coriander. Strawberries and soft fruit will grow indoors in a container. Do you have a balcony?
@@MyFamilyGarden thank you so much for your reply. I unfortunately don’t have a balcony. I’m hoping I can still enjoy the benefits of home grown food. I will definitely be giving it ago. Any tips on indoor growing much appreciated. Thanks again
space isn't a problem for me, monty. after almost 2 weeks in hospital, most of my seedlings in the poly tunnel are dead. watering is an art we can't all master. my wife, unfortunately, doesn't understand the basic principles. lol. time to start over, where possible...................brian

It's a good idea to use paper pots, I've never had success with the for anything other than beans (I sow them in loo roll middles)
Great vid and a fab selection of things to get growing this month. Love the collection of beans you had, can’t wait to see them all growing 👍
I'm looking forward to the butter beans, can't wait to see the pods
Thanks for highlighting seeds you are planting. Hope to get my beans in this week. Your advice is welcome, many thanks..

Woo hoo the excitement of a new sowing month!
Swift sweetcorn is one I've grown a few times and had good results.
That's really interesting i grew swift a few years ago but was quite hit and miss, a lot of half cobs so maybe poor polination that year

Very informative. As a newbie I don’t really know what to sow outdoors at this time of year. I have chard and spinach seeds so will do those

Do you pick out your amaranth when you transplant?
Yes I'll let them get to about 3/4 inches tall then start to prick out

What is the best soil type for them to grow well?
