Funny story: I used all my good ammo on G103's earlier in the game and had to beat the final boss with like 3 magnum rounds and a whole lot of handgun shots. Wouldn't recommend it............. Also I forgot I could quick turn. So I beat him RE1 style.

I agree with you. In my opinion. It's a really good game. It's my favorite Resident Evil game(a long with Resident Evil 1996 the first RE game) People just have to read all the files and see it actually has a disterbing story. You just have to be patient with the game and understand the story. It might be me but, the story is interesting in my opinion.
This reminds me that Code Veronica had a mercenaries-type mode and you could play that in first person as well. It was a little jank but I remember being surprised that it actually wasn't too shitty
One thing I really like about the Survivor series is that you can finally get a good look at the enemy models the games were using. In RE 1-3 the enemy is usually way down a hallway, and your character model is blocking your view of the enemy, or else your model is facing the camera, so you’re seeing a close up of the back of the enemies head. But the first person view in this game allows you to finally see a good view of some rather good 3d zombie and monster models.
Big fan of the first game despite its limitations (and yeah, the voice acting). Nice to be reminded of it again - the environments still look pretty good.
Growing up with the PS1, I always feel nostalgic for the old 3d models and low-res environments. I guess that's why I've been playing No one lives under the lighthouse and anything made by Puppet Combo
Great example of why I subscribe to the Gman. This game itself doesnt hold any nostalgia factor for me, having past me by, despite being a fan of the resi series. That being said, Gman brings a great mix of humour, insight and a clear passion for gaming, making any game he covers at least interesting to watch through his channels lens. Keep up the great work.

Fun fact: The VA who played the role of Arc Thompson is Patrick Harlan, who was an upcoming American comedian/actor who came to Japan follow a showbiz career. The guy somehow built a steady career since them and regularly comes up on Japanese TV, even did some VA for animes as well.

@@zedoctor3724 It's not the changes that bother most people, though the atmosphere is completely different without the quips and stuff. What bothers most people is how distracting this stuff is. Hearing "Facebook 2021" in the back of your mind every time a cut or static burst happens rips a lot of people right out of the experience.
Still love that game. For me it has some unique nostalgic childhood vibe. Yeah, it's not great in modern terms of quality but I'm a sucker for oldschool janky games. Besides, I liked the fact it was in first person, which for me added to immersion. Now that I have a lightgun, I can enjoy playing this thing a few more times.
I love how Handgun D is a WWII Japanese Type 14 Nambu pistol. Sooooo random lol. Probably one of those situations where the developers just saw a gun they thought looked cool and added it in.
Japan has a history of importing American guns post WWII, so Japanese guns tend to be stupid crap and we're happy to send them new stuff whenever they want to buy it. Probably just wanted to have a Japanese gun.

I remember playing this game once in the Philippines where we used a different type of lightgun one that had a joystick on it and it played like a dream as you would control your movement with your thumb.
What about Resident Evil Dead Aim? I remember that being pretty decent, and I think it was because it supported a lightgun with a dpad on it... at least I think so, it's been a long time.

I never played it until I gave it a try on my RG351P... Mainly because of the Angry Video Game Nerd video about it. It's neat as a handheld game. During my drink-every-night PS1 years Resident Evil Nemesis was more my speed. N64 was that system that you went to Walmart to play, you got free PS1 games from Pizza Hut and Magazines, and nobody had touched a Light Gun since Nintenderp's Duck Hunt! So I'm glad that I waited all these years to play the Resident Evil shooter because it would have just pissed me off to waste $20 on it back then.
When compared to Survivor 2, Dead Aim is a masterpiece and feels like an actual evolution of what the first game set out to do. Dead Aim is the true Survivor 2 in my opinion.
What's even worse than the sequel is the fact Survivor's story is technically cannon, I'd def be interested in playing it again sometime in my life with VR or a lightgun that somehow worked with a PC tho lol. I had to play it on a PS2 back when I played it and no light gun for me :(
it is so sad that this game ruined the whole franchise and gave gun survivor a bad name, while a small game came out on ps2 GUN SURVIVOR DEAD AIM, that game even support mouse control on ps2 and was one of the most amazing spin offs of the franchise and that is sadly lost to time now, and i wish they remaster it for VR.
this was one of those games I missed entirely, and didn't know it existed until a few years ago. Too bad, it looks like I would've had some fun with it

You need to play dead aim Gman!! By far the best light gun resident evil game. It also has probably the most underrated save room theme in the entire series, its got vibes of an old arcade game in its theme. It generally gave me a few scares as a kid aswell, it's worth a shot man.
Needs to be played with a mouse and controller, I'll add. Thumbstick control for the aiming is awful, but the game plays great if you plug in a USB mouse.
I gotta say, from what I'm seeing and what I remember from playing the game, it IS a scary experience. That cockroach dungeon part and the aspect of having to helplessly watch the tyrant walk slowly towards you like while you empty pistol pullets into him, is effectively terrifying!
I had that back when it came out, it was great. Just a little overlooked. Bad timing, but I remember how fun it is, they did a great job with the "Levels" too when it comes to visual settings and enemies. Thumbs Up

I Just started Resident Evil "The Darkside Chronicles" on Wii (never had a Wii before !) and it's surprisingly good ! I still need to find the "gun attachement" for the wiimote, but I was genuinely surprised how good it felt !

My hottest take as an RE fan is that the Survivor/Gun Survivor games aren't bad with or without a lightgun. Being from the US I played them without, and Survivor 1 is comically easy to me so idk why people hate it other than the precision aiming rather than a proper FPS control. I've played FAR worse though. And Survivor 2/Dead Aim is basically just a prototype of RE4. Which is because it kind of is if you know the development history (or more accurately Dead Aim influenced the direction of RE4s combat/camera, just obviously more refined and without the switch from 3rd to 1st person when aiming). I would rather play any survivor game over RE0, the Outbreak games, or RE5 single player tbh.

Holy shit, the HUD text for _Resident Evil Survivor 2_ might be one of the ugliest examples of HUD-design in the history of videogames. Nothing says "survival horror" like Times New Roman in bright red and lime-green default Windows 95 color options, huh?
I've actually played Survivor 2 on Arcade and with 2 players and yes it's garbage, but you need to know that the controller is bizarre, when you first look at it you'll assume it's one of those light gun shooters that have a mounted machine gun instead of those guns with the metal cables, but no, the guns are actually joysticks and you push and pull the whole gun in order to move your character, with left and right being turn rather than strafe, it feels super weird and clunky but we managed to clear the first 2 levels without losing any credits and then the machines reset (We don't know why) and once they turned on co-op was no longer enabled and each only worked as single player machines, which made it a whole lot more boring without my buddy to help me through it so we stopped. But yeah, it's a really weird machine and the only arguably good thing I have to say about it is that I've definitely never played any other machine like it.
this was the scariest, in my opinion. Despite having negative reviews, this was enjoyable, especially with the first person view in a RE game. I used to always jump whenever I entered a room, then the enemies are in front of your face.
RE:S could have been great if they'd just made it play like a straight-up FPS game. Doom, Quake, and Blood are all fun because they're FPS games that play like FPS games. RE:S would need something else, though, since it should still be an atypical FPS (relative to the standards of the time). Maybe add the ability to sprint (and maybe also jump) and have a reasonable stamina limitation. You should be able to shoot while walking, but you don't necessarily need to be able to shoot while sprinting. Also, they should have used the term "ammo" instead of "bullet." It's incompetent to refer to shotgun shells and 40mm grenades as "bullet" (and it insults the player). *Note:* Notice how RE:S's SPAS-12 is in the same configuration as the one used in that scene from Halloween-part-whatever you used. In the movie, the cop has the stock folded which is incompetent (especially considering he's a cop). One thing RE:S does right is it depicts it with the stock unfolded. In both instances, the stock has that pointless hook thing that was actually intended to aid one-handed firing if you can believe that. But why is it set on pump mode?! Ever iteration of the SPAS-12 in these games (and maybe also in that Halloween movie, though I can't quite tell if the actor is actually cycling the action, but it kinda sounds like they might have foley'd in pump sound effects as per typical which insults the audience when no actual pumping is going on) is set on pump mode even though you're using high-brass combat loads that would cycle the action just fine of semi-auto. Pump mode is for low-brass rounds and for special-purpose low-velocity police rounds (including but not limited to the less-than-lethal stuff). If they want a pump-action shotgun, then they should put a different model in there instead of the SPAS-12. The SPAS-12 is a clunky hoss that was outmoded in 1989 by its sleeker "cousin," the Benelli M3 Super 90. "Cousin" in the sense that they're both Italian. *Addendum:* Zombie games might be "old hat" by this point, but you know what we've never seen? We've never once had zombie game that followed genuine-article Romero/Fulci rules or stuck with genuine-article Romero/Fulci lore. It's not necessary to have both, but it would be nice to at least have something that sticks with those rules. By that, I mean destroying the brain does the job just fine. That means caliber doesn't even matter. In fact, a high-capacity .22 would be an ideal zombie-destroyer (assuming the gun and the mags were reliable). This only applies to standard-issue rank-and-file zombies, not mutant monsters or bosses. Dead Island came close, but it had terrible vehicle controls. The Killing Floor games do a good job, but those are specimens, not zombies. They Hunger and BrainBread don't stick with those rules, per se, but they had fantastic atmosphere. *Post-Addendum Note:* Dead Island gave you an incentive to mix it up with your weapons with any character. In most FPS games of that style, a shotgun would be your primary workhorse. In Dead Island, it's best to reserve shotguns for use against bosses or minibosses since they're overkill against run-of-the-mill deadheads. I mention it because I know you love shotguns and zombies. Well, who doesn't? Anyway, in that game, it's pistols for zombies, shotguns for mutant monsters, and assault rifles for bandits. And that's once you start finding guns. Oh, and there's a flare gun too. At least there is in Dead Island: Riptide. And it functions realistically, unlike the one from 'Blood'. 20:55 Notice how both of those floating guns are in "Hollywood" configuration. The AKM has its stock removed for no reason and the MAC-10 has its stock collapsed for no reason. 21:44 The short-barrel entry gun version of the SPAS-12. It has a 14" barrel and a flush-fit magazine tube. IRL, its capacity is five standard 2.75" 12-gauge rounds (18.5x70mm in metric) in the tube, plus one in the chamber. Subtract one if using 3" Magnums (18.5x76mm). I'd bet you anything they got it wrong. 24:15 What is it with guys who look like detectives in zombie games doing that exaggerated low-ready stance with a pistol? What's-his-face from RE:S is doing practically that exact same stance. Don't get me wrong. The low-ready stance is correct. There's just something else about the way the characters are standing. I can't quite put it into words.

I actually have somewhat of a soft spot for Dead Aim. I'm willing to admit it's not a very good game, but it was a novel idea. I mean hell, look at Killer 7. It had similar gameplay, just on rails, and that was an amazing game.
I remember them Gman, I remember and have and played them all. Some of them are painful, and a few are very, very, painful. But then there are the good ones.
Still won't mind a remaster/remake of this game. Just let us have the option to play it in first person or vr with classic or modern (re4 vr) gameplay as options, with an optional co-op with friends, and add in a Mercenaries mode for single or co-op play too.

Survivor was actually the first RE game I ever played (RE2 was 2nd). So, from that unique perspective, I can say it got me into the series, but I was surprised when I found out most of the other RE games played so differently.
I very much enjoyed the first game back in the day. I played through it multiple times with a controller. Something about the basic first person shooting was fun for me and the music was serviceable for a RE title. Graphics/voice acting/story was terrible though.
Living in Australia is the scariest thought of all Seriously always wanted to play Dead Aim tho Survivor would be cool having a light gun too, funny thing is RE Survivor is canon even mentioned in 0 lll So Leon’s literal only contribution to stopping Umbrella was sending this jackoff while he plays with himself on a island But thanks for trying to show the good in this game 💓 literally first time I’ve seen gameplay of RE Survivor 2, Banderdnatches are just as annoying as in the main game I see P.S. The light gun was disabled and not able to be used in the US, so it’s no wonder it was more disliked, it makes it easier with a controller but you lose the gun gimmick, but it was awesome seeing these monsters in first person, also was hilarious seeing Mr X around every corner, think my older brother lent me this game back in the day Nostalgia, also setting a Resident Evil game in a Tyrant Production facility, so much potential

I was the same. Me and a mate rented this game and absolutely loved it. Despite how basic it was
I never played it until I gave it a try on my RG351P... Mainly because of the Angry Video Game Nerd video about it. It's neat as a handheld game. During my drink-every-night PS1 years Resident Evil Nemesis was more my speed. N64 was that system that you went to Walmart to play, you got free PS1 games from Pizza Hut and Magazines, and nobody had touched a Light Gun since Nintenderp's Duck Hunt! So I'm glad that I waited all these years to play the Resident Evil shooter because it would have just pissed me off to waste $20 on it back then.
When compared to Survivor 2, Dead Aim is a masterpiece and feels like an actual evolution of what the first game set out to do. Dead Aim is the true Survivor 2 in my opinion.
What's even worse than the sequel is the fact Survivor's story is technically cannon, I'd def be interested in playing it again sometime in my life with VR or a lightgun that somehow worked with a PC tho lol. I had to play it on a PS2 back when I played it and no light gun for me :(

it is so sad that this game ruined the whole franchise and gave gun survivor a bad name, while a small game came out on ps2 GUN SURVIVOR DEAD AIM, that game even support mouse control on ps2 and was one of the most amazing spin offs of the franchise and that is sadly lost to time now, and i wish they remaster it for VR.

You need to play dead aim Gman!! By far the best light gun resident evil game. It also has probably the most underrated save room theme in the entire series, its got vibes of an old arcade game in its theme. It generally gave me a few scares as a kid aswell, it's worth a shot man.
Needs to be played with a mouse and controller, I'll add. Thumbstick control for the aiming is awful, but the game plays great if you plug in a USB mouse.

I gotta say, from what I'm seeing and what I remember from playing the game, it IS a scary experience. That cockroach dungeon part and the aspect of having to helplessly watch the tyrant walk slowly towards you like while you empty pistol pullets into him, is effectively terrifying!
I believe the saying is art from adversity. But, you're right on the concept. The limitation of the medium helps with creativity.

Im glad this game is being talked about. I remember playing this back in the ps1 era. It was an entertaining short game that had a very singular gameplay. Damn, the nostalgia.

I Just started Resident Evil "The Darkside Chronicles" on Wii (never had a Wii before !) and it's surprisingly good ! I still need to find the "gun attachement" for the wiimote, but I was genuinely surprised how good it felt !

My hottest take as an RE fan is that the Survivor/Gun Survivor games aren't bad with or without a lightgun. Being from the US I played them without, and Survivor 1 is comically easy to me so idk why people hate it other than the precision aiming rather than a proper FPS control. I've played FAR worse though. And Survivor 2/Dead Aim is basically just a prototype of RE4. Which is because it kind of is if you know the development history (or more accurately Dead Aim influenced the direction of RE4s combat/camera, just obviously more refined and without the switch from 3rd to 1st person when aiming). I would rather play any survivor game over RE0, the Outbreak games, or RE5 single player tbh.

Holy shit, the HUD text for _Resident Evil Survivor 2_ might be one of the ugliest examples of HUD-design in the history of videogames. Nothing says "survival horror" like Times New Roman in bright red and lime-green default Windows 95 color options, huh?
Hey, GmanLives, you probably did not know but RE Survivor has one more of a hidden passage in which you get to fight Moths and an Aligator.
I've actually played Survivor 2 on Arcade and with 2 players and yes it's garbage, but you need to know that the controller is bizarre, when you first look at it you'll assume it's one of those light gun shooters that have a mounted machine gun instead of those guns with the metal cables, but no, the guns are actually joysticks and you push and pull the whole gun in order to move your character, with left and right being turn rather than strafe, it feels super weird and clunky but we managed to clear the first 2 levels without losing any credits and then the machines reset (We don't know why) and once they turned on co-op was no longer enabled and each only worked as single player machines, which made it a whole lot more boring without my buddy to help me through it so we stopped.
But yeah, it's a really weird machine and the only arguably good thing I have to say about it is that I've definitely never played any other machine like it.
Nostalgic flashbacks. Played on ps1 and psp. I like this game. Very cozy, great soundtracks. Of course not the best in RE series, but also not worst.
this was the scariest, in my opinion. Despite having negative reviews, this was enjoyable, especially with the first person view in a RE game. I used to always jump whenever I entered a room, then the enemies are in front of your face.
1:53-I find it hysterical that I've held one of those pistols IRL. It's a Japanese Nambu pistol. My grandfather had brought one back from WW2.
RE:S could have been great if they'd just made it play like a straight-up FPS game. Doom, Quake, and Blood are all fun because they're FPS games that play like FPS games. RE:S would need something else, though, since it should still be an atypical FPS (relative to the standards of the time). Maybe add the ability to sprint (and maybe also jump) and have a reasonable stamina limitation. You should be able to shoot while walking, but you don't necessarily need to be able to shoot while sprinting. Also, they should have used the term "ammo" instead of "bullet." It's incompetent to refer to shotgun shells and 40mm grenades as "bullet" (and it insults the player).
*Note:* Notice how RE:S's SPAS-12 is in the same configuration as the one used in that scene from Halloween-part-whatever you used. In the movie, the cop has the stock folded which is incompetent (especially considering he's a cop). One thing RE:S does right is it depicts it with the stock unfolded. In both instances, the stock has that pointless hook thing that was actually intended to aid one-handed firing if you can believe that. But why is it set on pump mode?! Ever iteration of the SPAS-12 in these games (and maybe also in that Halloween movie, though I can't quite tell if the actor is actually cycling the action, but it kinda sounds like they might have foley'd in pump sound effects as per typical which insults the audience when no actual pumping is going on) is set on pump mode even though you're using high-brass combat loads that would cycle the action just fine of semi-auto. Pump mode is for low-brass rounds and for special-purpose low-velocity police rounds (including but not limited to the less-than-lethal stuff). If they want a pump-action shotgun, then they should put a different model in there instead of the SPAS-12. The SPAS-12 is a clunky hoss that was outmoded in 1989 by its sleeker "cousin," the Benelli M3 Super 90. "Cousin" in the sense that they're both Italian.
*Addendum:* Zombie games might be "old hat" by this point, but you know what we've never seen? We've never once had zombie game that followed genuine-article Romero/Fulci rules or stuck with genuine-article Romero/Fulci lore. It's not necessary to have both, but it would be nice to at least have something that sticks with those rules. By that, I mean destroying the brain does the job just fine. That means caliber doesn't even matter. In fact, a high-capacity .22 would be an ideal zombie-destroyer (assuming the gun and the mags were reliable). This only applies to standard-issue rank-and-file zombies, not mutant monsters or bosses. Dead Island came close, but it had terrible vehicle controls. The Killing Floor games do a good job, but those are specimens, not zombies. They Hunger and BrainBread don't stick with those rules, per se, but they had fantastic atmosphere.
*Post-Addendum Note:* Dead Island gave you an incentive to mix it up with your weapons with any character. In most FPS games of that style, a shotgun would be your primary workhorse. In Dead Island, it's best to reserve shotguns for use against bosses or minibosses since they're overkill against run-of-the-mill deadheads. I mention it because I know you love shotguns and zombies. Well, who doesn't? Anyway, in that game, it's pistols for zombies, shotguns for mutant monsters, and assault rifles for bandits. And that's once you start finding guns. Oh, and there's a flare gun too. At least there is in Dead Island: Riptide. And it functions realistically, unlike the one from 'Blood'.
20:55 Notice how both of those floating guns are in "Hollywood" configuration. The AKM has its stock removed for no reason and the MAC-10 has its stock collapsed for no reason.
21:44 The short-barrel entry gun version of the SPAS-12. It has a 14" barrel and a flush-fit magazine tube. IRL, its capacity is five standard 2.75" 12-gauge rounds (18.5x70mm in metric) in the tube, plus one in the chamber. Subtract one if using 3" Magnums (18.5x76mm). I'd bet you anything they got it wrong.
24:15 What is it with guys who look like detectives in zombie games doing that exaggerated low-ready stance with a pistol? What's-his-face from RE:S is doing practically that exact same stance. Don't get me wrong. The low-ready stance is correct. There's just something else about the way the characters are standing. I can't quite put it into words.

I actually have somewhat of a soft spot for Dead Aim. I'm willing to admit it's not a very good game, but it was a novel idea. I mean hell, look at Killer 7. It had similar gameplay, just on rails, and that was an amazing game.

Survivor was actually the first RE game I ever played (RE2 was 2nd). So, from that unique perspective, I can say it got me into the series, but I was surprised when I found out most of the other RE games played so differently.

I very much enjoyed the first game back in the day. I played through it multiple times with a controller. Something about the basic first person shooting was fun for me and the music was serviceable for a RE title. Graphics/voice acting/story was terrible though.

The light gun was disabled and not able to be used in the US, so it’s no wonder it was more disliked, it makes it easier with a controller but you lose the gun gimmick, but it was awesome seeing these monsters in first person, also was hilarious seeing Mr X around every corner, think my older brother lent me this game back in the day
