Many people don’t realize what MJ did to the music industry with “Off The Wall”. At the time there was a rebellion against Disco and many artists and record executives were not sure what direction to go in. This album changed all of that. “Thriller” was a pop culture phenomenon. But “Off The Wall” is the one that gets people on the dance floor🎼🔥🕺🏾
THERE WHERE HUGE POPULAR SONGS DURING DISCO .HUGE BANDS TOTO POLICE BLONDIE THE CARS THE POLICE VAN HALEN ,COUNTRY WAS VERY GREAT IN THE MID TO LATE 70s RnB n SOUL jAZZ WHERE HUGE OTHER THAN DISCO
That was Michael at his peak and at his best. Really it was. He looked great too! Never needed to change his appearance. His musical talent spoke for itself. So much raw talent and energy. Will always love his music.
Best dance song off this album definitely “Don’t Stop to You Get Enough” IMO… percussions and rhythm section is in a league of its own .. always drew everyone to the floor
This is a great song to dance to. This song was written by Rod Temperton who was songwriter and a member of the group Heatwave. He later went on to write songs for several artistes including Michael. He also wrote 'Rock with You' and collaborated with Quincey Jones. Good moving Angela! 5 for this one-Colin Ward
I don't know what happened in his private life, but as a singer, performer, and entertainer he was extraordinary. His collaborations with Quincy Jones were just brilliant. There were rumours he was going to do a long stint at one of the arenas in UK, if it had happened I would have been there.
I remember the first time I heard this song, in the back of my dads Oldsmobile leaving my cousins house. This laugh came and scared me, and the song started, I fell in love with Michael Jackson had no idea he was the voice of the little bit of ABC wr heard as a sample in a 1 hit wonder rap song in Miami. The rock with you and I got stuck on " lets take it slow, we got, so faar ta go" my fav sound of that song. Aaah Michael.
This is one of the few album title tracks that I enjoy. Written by the late, great Rod Temperton of Heatwave (who wrote tracks for that group, MJ, George Benson, Michael McDonald, James Ingram, and more). Rod also wrote "Thriller," so there would definitely be some similarities between that and this track. Also, the bassline for this song is reminiscent of the Heatwave hit "Boogie Nights."
This was his best album... as I share, back when the brother was still black full of soul, r&b, and funk. As the baby of four, I was the one that was stuck in the reverse back seat in the seat of a Ford LTD station wagon and we bumped this album and song on an 8track!
This was a big hit during the disco era too. Lots of people dancing to this tune Friday and Saturday nights at the disco. I was 22 in 1979. Loved those 70s! It was Off The Wall for sure!
An album filled with the great musicians of the 70s including those from the Bros. Johnson, Seawind (horns), of course produced with the "Dude" himself Quincy Jones.
I Can’t Help It is an underrated gem of a song. Shows Michael’s range and smooth vocal control. Has an easy breezy jazzish vibe that makes it so enjoyable.
That's really cool to see how the young generations love MJ as much as my gen did in the 80's/ 90's. I had the chance to see him live in summer 1992. 50.000 people 95°F, in trance before, during and after the show. . 1 hour after the show, the stadium was still packed. People wanted to share this moment, talk about it. I have seen about 80-100 concerts of all music genres. I never experienced something like that. He was one of a kind.
You're right Angela , the beginning is mostly the same than the beginning of Thriller ! (Some songs of Thriller and Off the Wall are written by the genius Rod Temperton (An English compositor who write too for the band Heat Wave , and in your playlist , I heard songs of that good band) . (De Belgique Francophone, Europe / Belgium, Europe) 😊🖐
Love this song. Believe it or not but this and rock with you were written for Karen carpenter and her solo album. She passed on these but chose “my body keeps changing my mind” and “loveliness” for her R n b/disco sound on the album. I can hear a great duet by these 2 on this song.
Angela will be very surprised to learn that both "Off the Wall" and "Rock with You" were first offered to Karen Carpenter to record on her 1979 Solo Album project - she turned them down, and then they were offered to MJ - while his versions are great and have become classics, one cant help wondering what this super-talented woman with the once-in-a-lifetime voice would have done with them...
Angela, i share your deep love of this track. Although i mostly DJ genres like house, dub, acid jazz, latin jazz, downtempo/trip hop, Afrobeat, and underground hip hop on my radio program, I always find some time for old skool funk/soul grooves and the like, and whenever i throw this song into my set, it always makes me smile…and groove out! Timeless and awesome!
Worked for Columbia Records when this was manufactured after college. Great album , was the first of 3 albums Quincy Jones produced for Michael. Brothers Johnson were the studio musicians.
"Dazz" by Brick......"Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio Players...."Jungle Boogie" Kool and the Gang......"Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey...."Brick House" by the Commodores....."Car Wash" by Rose Royce
This is about a 4 but personal bias is creeping into Dayone's ratings in giving songs she knows and familiar with a higher rating like this one. I've heard hundreds of dance songs and feel like my ratings are more accurate than hers.
Great song but I liked Don't Stop from that album. Agree Off the Wall all was dynamite album, my favorite MJ. Destiny album also classic with Jackson's. Thriller bigger because MTV came along.
I know this was chosen from the poll however I put this song into the poll with me picking it as a patreon cuz I got to take an Angela liking a song pick of mine when I can get it LOL Definitely a 5 any day of the week!! Cool reaction..😂❤🎉
Hi Angela 😊 Great reaction to Michael Jackson's Off The Wall😊👍 I agree with you number five on the Boogie Meter...hit the dance floor after screaming and grab your partner and go to the dance floor 😊 Michael Jackson had a great groove when he came back 😊 Have a great day and bye 😊👍
I still prefer the Off the Wall album to Thriller. The earlier one really signaled Jackson's arrival as an adult artist and it seemed mind-blowingly good at the time. The two albums are actually similar in content though Off the Wall has more of that '70s dance vibe. Thriller had a similar song structure (including another McCartney duet) and just amped them all' up to the max. By the way, English keyboard player Rod Temperton of the group Heatwave ("Boogie Nights,'" "Always and Forever") wrote this track as well as several of Michael's biggest hits on both this album and Thriller.
It wasn't until adulthood when I was thoroughly discussing music with friends that I heard so many preferring Off the Wall over Thriller, and at a point I sat myself down and listened through properly. I definitely get it. I'm also a disco girlie, so my partiality was in the works lol
Oh yeah! When he sings the lyrics 9 to 5, it reminds of the songs by Sheena Easton (Morning Train aka 9 to 5) and Dolly Parton 9 to 5, which both came out at around the same time as MJ's Off The Wall! Later!
I feel off the wall was a better album. Thriller seemed more theatrical. I saw Micheal in concert in 1978, it was awesome! Also met him at a huge antique and collector's show in the mid two thousands! What a thrill!
I love this song..I don't care what anyone says THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON.. he has a song Almost There I love that song.. if you pay close attention to this song Off The Wall the begging instrument is borrowed by Gospel artist Mary Mary on a son GET UP
I always liked the "Off the Wall" album better than "Thriller," too. I think the main reason "Thriller" got so huge is because it was soooo hyped. The album was released in '82/'83, a couple of songs were played on the radio, they were good songs but nothing out of the ordinary, and then several months after the release, Jackson started being hyped as "the king of pop" and suddenly people started noticing the album more in order to conform to all the advertising. "Off the Wall" was much better, in my opinion.
So good ! Congratulations ! ( Belgium, Europe ) . * I prefer the LP "Off the Wall" than the LP "History" , but I'am a fan of M.J. and the Jackson 5 . 😊🖐
Angela, I agree with you. While I think both Off The Wall and Thriller are great albums, I've always been partial to Off The Wall. It was Michael Jackson's disco album and has always been my favorite album of his and I think it's his best.
Quincy Jones has a larger influence over these songs and that quality stands out. There is only one song on this album i didn't like and even that song has grown on me over the years.
Get down Girl. I remember buying this album with my own money. I was only 12 yrs. old. Unfold the album jacket and it was the full MJ. Great music on this album. RIP. Oh, personal note I was stupid and got rid of the album in my later years and he went and passed away. Should of kept it. lol
A bad ass and icon just so you know after came disco came this record then came prince hall and Oates then rap and the rest of the eighties all kinds of jundras my opinion.
Most black folks love Off the Wall over Thriller. At that point, he was a black superstar. When he did Thriller, he was a superstar who happens to be black. He gets more attention on Thriller because he has a pop sound rock n roll sound. "Beat it." It basically crossed over to the masses globally. Then the videos were a huge help, especially Thriller. He was always a great dancer, but the moonwalk nobody did. So he had to recreate himself from his brothers.
"Off The Wall" is a great album & the title track is good, but, imo, not the best track on the album. 3 tracks on that album stand out to me as better: "Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough", "Rock With You", & "Working Day & Night". Also, as much as i love the "Off The Wall" album, "Thriller" is better imo. As much as people attempt to dismiss or downplay MJ's later work, it was some of his best actually. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but "Dangerous" is Michael's best overall album.
I agree..definitely a better album than Thriller..oh how l remember dancing to this soooo many times..as soon as it started we all went whoosh straight to the floor..singing and dancing every song on here is a banger..Rock with you..Don't stop till you get enough..absolutely magic..the amazing Quincy Jones brought out the best in MJ..and this was before he started getting weird ..definitely a boogie meter 5+
Ironically, he was not happy personally during the popularity of the Off the Wall album (highlighted in his Broadway show “MJ”). So sad because I agree, much better than “Thriller”
Off The Wall is his best album by far
oh hell one of the best albums no matter what genre you like
@@TheCybertiger9 true!
his funkiest album
I agree. Off The Wall is his best. I'd put Thriller 2nd.
Totally agree 👍🏾

"Get On The Floor", it has the laughter from MJ where you can tell he has it going !
My favourite MJ album too, and the best song off the album.
70s that's why
This is a great song to dance to. This song was written by Rod Temperton who was songwriter and a member of the group Heatwave. He later went on to write songs for several artistes including Michael. The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic musical treasure Mr Quincy Delight Jones ❤❤❤
This is officially my *FAVORITE* MJ song of all time. This was also the first album I ever bought back when it came out
I don't know what happened in his private life, but as a singer, performer, and entertainer he was extraordinary. His collaborations with Quincy Jones were just brilliant. There were rumours he was going to do a long stint at one of the arenas in UK, if it had happened I would have been there.

He is always black no matter how much his vitiligo changed his appearance on the outside.
GREAT song. I was 17 when this came out.
I Waz 19 loving the 70s huge time,
It's still one of the best selling albums of all time since its release in 1979, it is still a favourite album of vinyl record collectors.
I love the 70's and ofcourse the king of pop. Keep it coming!!
Agree, Awesome Album, Working Day And Night Fantastic Track.
I have just two MJ albums, Off the Wall and Thriller, my favourite out of the two is this one Off the Wall. RIP Michael your legend lives on.
I Can’t Help It is an underrated gem of a song. Shows Michael’s range and smooth vocal control. Has an easy breezy jazzish vibe that makes it so enjoyable.

This is my favorite song off of Off The Wall album thanks so much. Continue to R.I.P King of pop Michael Jackson ❤
Wow, Angela.
You really move to the music with ease.
My faves from this album Off The Wall, a five for me as well Angela, and then I Can't Help It, dream-like and romantic
Off the wall is one of the all time.best albums ever done...
Michael doing a Rod Temperton song-a killer combination!
You're right Angela , the beginning is mostly the same than the beginning of Thriller ! My favorite Michael Jackson song 🎵 ❤️ 💕
Off the Wall is my favorite also. Great call Angela!!!

MJ was such a great musical talent.
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Michael Jackson ❤❤

Ang, your dancing is off the wall tonight. Terrific!
Indeed, a prototype "Thriller".
Off the Wall was my favorite album of his too! Loved all of the songs!
"Dazz" by Brick......"Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio Players...."Jungle Boogie" Kool and the Gang......"Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey...."Brick House" by the Commodores....."Car Wash" by Rose Royce
Love it! Roller rink music back in the day. Great song.
omg you just gave me great flashbacks, going to the roller rink in high school in the 70's & 80's. I haven't thought about that in 4 decades
@@maha77 Should be more roller rinks today. Good exercise and so much fun skating to the music with other people.
the day was 1979
I saw the 70s, 80s shoulder roll !!! You should have been young in the clubs in the 70s !! You would have killed it !!
Co-sign 100%. _Off The Wall_ > _Thriller_ Boogie Meter: 3. I like singing along with it more than dancing to it. ✌🏽

Yes preferred Don't Stop and absolutely agree Destiny was a fabulous album. I used to play it every evening for months 😅
I know this was chosen from the poll however I put this song into the poll with me picking it as a patreon cuz I got to take an Angela liking a song pick of mine when I can get it LOL Definitely a 5 any day of the week!! Cool reaction..😂❤🎉
Mj had a afro on the front of the. Cover of the album
I agree. This album was MJ at his best.

One of my favorite songs by MJ 🎶🎶🎶🎶 13 at the time ran out bought the album, great album 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thriller was one of the worlds most popular albums of all time, but OFF The Wall was his most critically acclaimed.
That bass line is just too filthy
Louis Johnson ❤
So nice to see you enjoy this so much
This hit the top 10 on billboards disco soul and disco charts in early 1980
BUT its a 70s VIBE ALL THE WAY, WRITEN RECORDED AND RELEASED AND DANCED TO BY MILLIONS BE 4 THE 80S STARTED
'old' young MJ , Joy to music was in him that days
Great cast of prominent musicians on this album . If you check out the credits the list is pretty impressive.
Rest in peace mj
Your moves are priceless
Oh yeah! When he sings the lyrics 9 to 5, it reminds of the songs by Sheena Easton (Morning Train aka 9 to 5) and Dolly Parton 9 to 5, which both came out at around the same time as MJ's Off The Wall! Later!
We’re the party people night and day.
rod temperton wrote this song as well as thriller great song angela great moving on a chair as well mike from england
I feel off the wall was a better album. Thriller seemed more theatrical. I saw Micheal in concert in 1978, it was awesome! Also met him at a huge antique and collector's show in the mid two thousands! What a thrill!

This song here, makes me want to have some chocolate!!
Rod Temperton masterpiece! The resemblance to Thriller is because Temperton wrote both.
I always liked the "Off the Wall" album better than "Thriller," too. I think the main reason "Thriller" got so huge is because it was soooo hyped. Importantly it was the rise of MTV and music videos that propelled Thriller.
R.I.P Rod Temperton.
One more thing... you take requests? Out of many favorites, I'd like to hear Andreas Vollenweider "Sena Stanjena". Thank you!
You got the moves
So good ! Congratulations ! ( Belgium, Europe ) . * I prefer the LP "Off the Wall" than the LP "History" , but I'am a fan of M.J. and the Jackson 5 . 😊🖐

Mj is my favorite singer
I like this song! It's pretty groovy and has a hint of darkness in the background! Boogie meter 5! I believe it was produced by Quincy Jones! See ya!
Great jam! It’s a 5 for me.
Question(s)...if I want to start my channel, what do I need? And how do I show the album pic while the song's playing?
killer bass and not a bad song on this album. Produced by Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton, two music/Motown greats
Get down Girl. I remember buying this album with my own money. I was only 12 yrs. old. Unfold the album jacket and it was the full MJ. Great music on this album. RIP. Oh, personal note I was stupid and got rid of the album in my later years and he went and passed away. Should of kept it. lol
Yep, even better than his "Thriller" release.
I can't remember but I know one of the members the Jackson and bees are a godson to one of members.
A bad ass and icon just so you know after came disco came this record then came prince hall and Oates then rap and the rest of the eighties all kinds of jundras my opinion.
Off the wall is a better album. Thriller was more popular
U NAILED IT 70s ALL THE WAY

Mj off the wall is a 10
now do Rock with you
Beautiful girl.
I dare ya not to get up and dance your ass off when this comes on...I DARE YA!
I've always liked Off The Wall better my self.

HUGELY OVER RATTED ANY thing 70s is better than 80s period
