You're so good at showing the differences. Thanks man. Also shows that pitch accuracy is literally the biggest skill that changes the way you sound. Which is the reason that post production pitch correction is ridiculously prevalent now, both in studio and on stage.

I do not like his vocals BUT he is undoubtably talented and anyone who says he isn't is confusing taste with ability. I prefer a Kurt Cobain to a Justin Beiber but it's really really hard to claim Cobain is objectively better. He isn't. I don't like Justin's obnoxious brightness but if that's other people's deal it's really not for me to judge too harshly.

Man! I thought something was fishy about that preformance, like I dug it and all but something sounded like slightly tuned and I showed it to a bunch of people and they said it was just like a delay effect on his voice but it didn't sound like that to me. I'm not dissing, I love the Bieber I'm just happy to have some confirmation cause I was going crazy about this a month or so back haha. The unedited version sounds great too though, wouldn't have needed editing at all if he'd stop swaying haha.

Well, I bet the producer set the voice levels to sound the same cause he was moving away from the mic. Don't think they edited his voice in any way cause it doesn't sound like it. Like I think the producer just made it more audible and clear.

I'm a sound engineer so I know exactly what's happening in the video.
The "edited" video was compressed and by compressed I don't mean what most people associate with the word compression; I mean DRC (dynamic range compression). And yeah, as soon as the video started I heard the "autotune". I've spent a lot of time with Autotune and Melodyne because that's just what you have to do when you work with vocals. But man, this was just way too obvious. I'm pretty certain that I could've done a better job.

As a producer, I can kind of defend this. Even if there was no post production, it's easy to achieve a stable volume whilst moving away from a mic with some simple compression (no voice correction, simply maintaining velocity). And to be fair, if the unedited version went up, there would be a lot of people who would praise him for demonstrating his natural voice, but a whole slew of others who would judge and make a fuss about his flat notes. The internet is savage like that. So I can't really blame them to be honest. It's some nice work by an obviously skilled producer.

Probably not. Most likely just a compressor to maintain a consistent volume
I can blame them. People are ignorant frustrated savages, internet or real life is the same. If an artist can't help checking the TH-cam comment section, they should change line of work. Being attacked about their personal life is not part of the deal, but being judged on their vocals is. Don't pretend the reason is to protect the artist. If you keep the standards real, people ain't gonna freak out for a few flat notes.
Things like that don't benefit the artist, they benefit those who sell the artist. But the real problem is that you're creating impossible standards, people are so used to it they won't settle for an unedited performance anymore. There's no point in singing live anymore, just put the studio track and the singer will lip sync. Which is fine for live shows where people enjoy the overall experience over the music. But with live acoustic performances like that people come for a different content, or at least _they think they do_ and what they get is deception. Maybe they're _happily_ deceived, but if they develop unrealistic expectations for what's normal, whose problem is it gonna be?

You can maintain a stable volume, but you can't get it as clear as it is in post production. There is clearly a auto tune in the post production track and som reverb and delay.
You can totally hear the vocal doubling in the edited version
3:46 Notice that his voice sounds dubbed, specially when he's out of tune. That's because they only pitch corrected Biebers mic, the Gitarr mic is leaking in his real voice, and when Biebs is out of tune thats when both voice samples crash and make is sound dubbed/weird effected.

Sounds like a chorus effect to me, makes the voice sound more “full”
probably his actual voice. and mic or another mic picked up his voice thats why there's like two voice at one time
His microphone: theres some live autocorrect (auto tune) to his mic... but when he sings the higher notes as the comments bellow.. it picks up his "actual voice" which will create the effect of 2 people but what you are actually hearing is the tuned voice and his raw voice. This is something that happens a lot when celebs use correction in there performance while theres another mic in the same general area not using correction.

He had a few bumps in the actual live one, but overall he's pretty great. It sucks the "live" isn't actually live but I guess it just makes him even better than he already is.
