  • Norrish type I reaction is a photochemical reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone upon irradiation under goes homolytic cleavage of C-C sigma bond alpha to carbonyl carbon to produce acyl and alkyl radicals. The free radicals formed by Norrish type I cleavage may undergo several secondary reactions depending upon their structures. In this video Norrish type-1 reaction has been discussed in detail with an number of examples with explanation.
