Namaskar sir, aapko pranam🙏🏼. I am also from ee department. Sir there must be some more you need to know😊, no offense just sharing my knowledge. Firstly their are two types of machines. 1. Static Machine(these are those machines that remains stationary but they have moving parts. Like the transformer, now you may say what is moving? Electrons, current is moving. If a thing moves you get humming noise, vibrations and all. This electrons when move around the coil in fast manner creates heat and movement like train wheels when run in track causes pebles to vibrate and the track to get heat up due to friction same. To keep core cool, wire cool dielectric oil is used this oil is circulated thru fins/wings which work a radiator for heat exchange either natural or forced cooling with fan.) 2. Dynamic machine(these are the ones that rotates. Like various types of ac and dc motors). Now defination of transformer says. By faraday's law of electromagnetic induction a transformer[trf] either step up or step down source(source may be voltage or current). If you use thin wire you get less current if you use thicker wire you get more current. Hence a trf not just only step up but does down the voltage too. When power is being generated its being boosted to 3.3kv, 6.6kv, 11kv, 25kv, 33kv, 66kv...... by this trf to switchyard to grid to substation to domestic transformer(where this high voltage is step down to 3ph 220v each ph line). If we us 3.3kv to run fridge, tv pump then all 🔥🔥.
