I gotta say, this knife is AWESOME. love the custom wood scales, love the attention to detail and very cool vid on the process! I'm a fan man! Keep up the good work!
Great job! I really love spalted maple. Last fall I was cutting firewood. I cut through a maple tree with a chainsaw and realized it was spalted. I called a neighbor down the road who is a woodworker and let him know what I found. He was more than excited and came up and got the whole tree for some of his projects.
You made a modern folding chef knife look like it was made a long ago. The acid wash makes it look like cut stone and of course the wood is wood. Looks like you’d dig this up from an ancient burial ground lol. Great work.
Thanks for bringing us through the process, Nathan! Turned out fabulously, as always! The trick you used with the paper window is exactly what we used to do when cutting stone cabochons in my old jewelry business. Except we used plastic templates which could be purchased with various shapes and sizes so that we could isolate the section of material that would look the best for the project! 🗡️🙏👍
Excellent work. Really well done man. Having made a lot of my own scales for knives that just didn't have any aftermarket support I totally respect the amount of work (and fun) these projects are. I love the looks especially the blade wash, I've not gotten into doing that yet but I LOVE the looks (I hate Satin blade finishes and I'm not a fan of Kizers new hard, black DLC coating that looks like cheap paint)Just like the Doberman Kizer really screwed up using those god-awful Milled-Ti pocket clips. THey're purely for looks and SUCK if you actually carry/use a knife. Fortunately they're making new Momo's with functional fold-over clips and a MINI. I'm waiting on mine so I can make some new scales for it. This was great inspiration to start the project.
Aloha! Absolutely stunning! What you did to the blade with the faux dual tempering and stonewash to me just totally makes it for me! Stunner! Please let me know if youll be providing that as a service to mod the Momo! Great video!
Nice work! Much better looking now. Hope Kizer takes note.... I have three folders dedicated to kitchen duty and my better half likes using them more than the cheap kitchen knives she got when we bought the place.
As usual, you created another masterpiece but just out of curiosity what model CNC machine are you using? You inspired me to get into modding my knife collection and want to find a cnc machines for scales that isn’t going break the bank.
Very cool! I have been wanting to do some things like this as well. You have given me the confidence to go for it. I would really like to find out what concert u have?
Sweet knife to begin with, didn't know that one. The modded result is perfect - well done! Question: does the blade treatment not affect the slicing capability at all?
It's a great knife from Kizer and thank you! I haven't noticed any difference in slicing on all the knives I've etched, as long as you sharpen it well, you're good to go!🙂
Wow truly incredible. The show side the screws looked like they almost disappeared in the lines of the maple. Beautiful. What is the steel of the blade. When I etch I have only had luck with d2.
@@KnathansKnives thanks! good to know I’ve already had trouble with other steels. Etching a Pokémon into a stainless steel knife. (Tacky I know but I wanted to see if could do it). Can’t wait to see more of your custom stuff I really love the “rock” texturing you do on the spine truly amazing.
@Rye_Bread704 No problem and I hope it's Pikachu that you're etching🙂 Appreciate it, I'll be doing a How-To video of the rock pattern texture for the spine of the blade soon!
@@KnathansKnives IT WAS A PIKACHU! I even dyed the handles yellow and changed out all of hardware to black to give it a more Pikachu look. But last time I etch 9cr
How did you get the faux hamon I was super excited to see and hear how you achieved not only the faux hamon but just how you did the etch on the stainless etch on the 154cm I tried it once using ferric chloride on the copper handled towser k (in an attempt to darken the blades seriously to match the copper handle) was little success despite multiple dips in the ferric. This is my first time checking out your channel so perhaps you have a different videos or something with that process if you could Point me that direction or help me out here with what you did that would be much appreciated?
I used a mix of Ferric Chloride(80%) & Apple Cider Vinegar(20%). I noticed that Kizer's 154CM Steel etches perfectly too! Here's my How-To video on the FAUX HAMON etch: th-cam.com/video/JBI7ohDBa9k/w-d-xo.html
