  • This week the guys get into it from the jump, discussing Andrew's struggle with anxiety, if Dr. Fauci is behind Chris' Lyme disease and whether the writers and actors strike is the beginning of the end for Hollywood.
Andrew and Char also breakdown the significance of Jay-Z's exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library and in an epic tribute to old school hip-hop, perform their own acapella version of Salt and Peppa's "Shoop."
Plus, as always, they answer your most pressing questions in Ask An Idiot.
    0:00:00 - nuts and anxiety
0:04:35 - Is Lyme Disease from Wu Han?
    0:10:19 - Salma Hayek’s dairy farm
0:12:49 - Hollywood is in trouble + ponzi streaming
0:51:38 - The Book of Hov + CTG is an elitist & Taylor wasn’t invited
0:59:23 - LeBron Changes Jersey No Back to 23
1:09:50 - AZ Republican Makes C-Span Interesting Again
    1:13:02 - People of C*nt
    1:16:09 - EJ Johnson SERVING!
    1:19:00 - CTG Can’t Differentiate Between Whites
    1:20:59 - Carrie Underwood Tripping
1:27:33 - Female Rap is more than Bootyhole Bars + Schulz is Salt-n-Pepa’s Biggest Fan
    1:38:44 - Ask an Idiot
The Brilliant Idiots podcast is hosted by Charlamagne tha God, host of Power 105.1’s radio show, The Breakfast Club & internationally touring stand up comedian & Flagrant's Andrew Schulz.
From music, comedy, relationships, to pop culture, politics and current events, everything is on the table for analysis. But take what you hear with a grain of salt, because while their perspectives are often brilliant, they're liable to be idiotic too.

What Char is talking about at like the 57 minute mark hits home real hard. To have family and friends to see you "make it" is selfish in a way, but also you feel good because you made those people proud of you. I was in a homeless shelter when I was like 15/16 yrs old. I went on to make a music career where I did theaters that were 2-3K people. The thing that was missing was I had no one that was proud of me. I was still a failure because I didn't make a million dollars. The money meant nothing to me. Being on that stage, and showing everyone that ever said I couldn't meant more, but it didn't matter. I showed them and they still thought of me the same way.

20:30 I'll add that cable began to shoot itself in the foot by removing themselves out of what made them locked into the home.
Back in the day, every television set had a Analog Air and CATV tuner.
This sold the idea to buy up a Cable TV subscription so you can get more than just the basic broadcast air channels, but instead utilize the TV's CATV tuner that would get you at least 99 channels under Cable TV subscription.
VCRs had Air/CATV tuners as well.
But the Cable TV's push in the mid 2000 to "Digital" Cable and forcing their set-top box use on people that came with its own rental fee, killed the need for a CATV tuner being part of TVs.
VCRs were dead but there was TIVOs and TV Tuner card adapters for PCs that were picking up from where VCR did with allowing home recordings of Air/CATV content, but "Digital" Cable doomed the CATV aspect of it.
Worse is the Cable companies forced the use of Cable Cards as the replacement of CATV tuner and that did not catch on.
I think its Cable movement to control content is what ultimately killed them as newer players in the field like Netflix at the time was aiming to put their service into everything and not be exclusive to just their box to use their service.

Guys, I appreciate this discussed about the strikes currently happening in Hollywood. All valid points, what I feel like isn’t being discussed is the enormous salaries these execs get. In what reality should a ceo make 450 million? I’m not saying they shouldn’t be paid well for running a company like Disney. They should be paid millions, sure. But 450 million?! Netflix spent 30 million developing a MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE movie. They announced last week that the movie is cancelled and no longer happening. But thy money was spent. It was lit on fire. This industry (for which I’m a part of) is fucked do to poor money management. They streamers don’t want to reveal their numbers cause they have been lining their pockets for years. The idea that a golden parachute exists for these execs is wild to me. Why do we accept that? If you get fired, it’s cause you were bad at your job, you didn’t do well. So why do they get rewarded with a 70 million golden parachute when they’re fired? Makes no sense. They have been pissing on our head and telling us it’s raining for years. Wish you two would discuss that part as well.

    • @LouMurk
      @LouMurk 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

EXACTLY, and the crazy part is the 2% in profit both Actors and Writers are asking for is like $75 mill a year... that's like a drop in the buckets in which they blow money with. Hell A24 an indie studio that's been doing well, is paying what SAG/WGA is asking for, if A24 can do it while being like 90% smaller, they big streamers should pay up too. Its Hollywood Accounting, they fudge and lie in the numbers.

It's not complicated why golden parachutes exists.
I as a successful executive for a successful company would be taking a huge risk transfering to another company. Why would I take that risk? My labor is in demand. I can not control the environment completely. I am reliant on other people to successful convert to my way of management and getting things done. There are a huge amount of other varibles.
WHY WOULD I TAKE THE RISK TO GO TO ANOTHER COMPANY?
It takes a long time to interview and get an offer as an executive. It's not like you walk in and people hand you a job. You need to be interviewed by the entire executive team for integrative reasons... this takes months or even a year +.
Worst case scenario, I have no meaningful income during that time.
Golden parachutes minimize that risk in my life.
If the company wants my labor to work for them instead of who I currently work for... thats the price. It's called leverage... this isn't rocket science.
Executives aren't the only ones who get golden parachutes... anyone whos skills are in demand and who has the ability to think past the present negotiates this.

    • @apollo3jp867
      @apollo3jp867 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@anthonyo7605 that’s valid, I understand that reasoning and where you’re coming from truly. I guess my issue is the AMOUNT. Per my initial comment, I’m not saying execs don’t deserve to be paid millions god running a successful company. What I am saying is they don’t deserve THAT MANY MILLIONS. Take Bob Chapek for example. The Disney CEO before Iger took over recently. By all accounts, he fucked Disney up and ruined the parks. He ostensibly was bad at his job. The job he was hired to do, he did not perform well. It’s that simple. So why is he entitled to that golden parachute when he got ousted. It’s not like that’s the only money he’s ever received for the position. My point is, capitalism is great, but this is what happens when it’s unchecked. Your “labor” isn’t really that is it? It’s your ability to make decisions which truthfully, others can do as well. Labor is the grunt work, the day to day grind. Execs don’t perform labor. They delegate. And simply put, you shouldn’t be paid half a billion for delegating.

@@apollo3jp867both valid points tbh… but yes the numbers combined on their side are stupid large when taking into account maybe one percent would solve a lot of issues we face in the film industry.
Obviously moneys not the only factor regarding the 2023 strikes - but for them to hog their cash and want to see their workers starve is sick
