I enjoyed your reaction. Over the years Jimin has always fought with his inner self and received a lot of hate from others. He has always worked hard, but I don't think some people took him seriously, and treated him like just a pretty face. Similar to J-Hope and RM, I think he wants to show what he can do as an individual and not part of a group. I really, really, love the song. It's seems somewhat dark, and the first time I listened I was not sure what to think. But after listening to it multiple times, I think he may actually have more than one meaning in it, one to his inner self to set him free from the judgements he puts on himself that he is not good enough, the other to people who tell him he is not good enough and mock him. Jimin is not just an idol, he is a man of many colors. This song shows more of what he is capable of as an individual. I am so very proud of him and looking forward to the rest of his album.
70 year old BTS Army here. Jimin is wearing temporary tattoos like the ones V wore on his cheek and neck in "ON - Kinetic Manifesto Film" and other MVs. This about Jimin's inner self. Most Armys know that Jimin has had ongoing inner struggles with numerous death threats, people who mock him (and all of the members), self esteem, and the many haters who have been trying to take them down since their debut in 2013. They have all been burdened by those things. This is a hip hop track which commonly uses a lot of autotune which is what you are hearing. BTS has used it also. IMO Jimin is fed up with the burden of his inner thoughts and is setting himself free from it. 💜
Jimin's artistic wings were clipped for 10 years. His true identity were hidden. Now he is FINALLY flying free. The song and MV is dark. But at the very end of the MV he is shown in white. White for freedom. FLY Jimin FLY.
It seemed like he was telling all those who were speaking bad about his voice, his looks and his body that he was done with the past even though it hurt. He wouldn't let it define him anymore. Especially since back then there were death threats made against him.
I think he wants to be set free from the restrictions he had, I mean everything he done was for the company, he had to follow them and do what he had to do for BTS. He want's to do what he has never been able to do while in BTS and I'm loving it. He said in an interview how he had been held back but now "It's begun, my prime time". That's what I got from it. Anyway, back to streaming.
Jimin said his album was his emotions chronologically during the pandemic. We know they were all stressed by the continued delays and cancelations of their concerts. But I think it impacted Jimin a lot because he loves to perform. I'm glad he was able to work through his emotions and create this art! The choreographer was Sienna Lalau who choreographed On, Kinetic Manifesto. I believe he used the same choir that BTS worked with prior. I look at the set like a prison, and the use of auto tune like negative voices. I'm not a fan of auto tune but this was done so creatively! I loved the way they filmed the end when they are surrounding Jimin and the camera is moving around him. 💜💜💜
I love everything with this song: The intro, the lyrics, Jimin’s performanceThe teaser from Face album had two parts: hardware and software. So, I assume this song is from the hardware part of the album, and It’s possible that the software of the album include soft songs. Congratulations to Jimin!!!
He talked about himself, in the lyrics it says "raise your hands for the past m". He's not talking about being free from the group. Definitely it's dark, the auto tune was artistically/stylistically placed in different areas to help tell the story of this song. The choir and trumpet gives it that grandiose feel, towards the end another layer added to the sound made it feel eerie. And Jimin did talk that the songs in his mini album was from all his feelings during Covid.

Jimin was very early imprisoned (conscious or unconscious, for something he liked to do). This period of liberation, because they achieved fame, sustainability for themselves and the company, going to military service, allowed him to do something that shows his liberation and from now on to do what he really likes with his excellent voice and dancing . And this song, in my opinion, represents the breaking of the chains that he felt over the years by having to obey to do ⁷ what he was told, social demands, the relationship with fans and army's (who are the ones who buy the cds) and not your creativity. Which led him to have difficulty knowing who he is, what his likes are. What is his personality. That's why we have black clothing, a revolt dance and liberation movements, but around and on top we see light that is the hope of achieving freedom and in the end he wears white, which means he has achieved it. It's a strong song and a cry for freedom, one of humanity's greatest guarantees. It is a work of good example for all those who are tied down, but that there is always hope and that there is always a moment when they can defeat these ties. Congratulations!!! to Jimin for this very good work💜💯🎶💜🌟👏👏👏👏👏

For the people surprised at this song - listen to his solo song Lie! While it might not sound sonically similar, it might give you an idea on what kept him trapped. This song seems to be a continuation and him closing that chapter in his life.
We have to let them grow up from the stereotype as little good boy of BTS. Their about to enter into military service when they return their having a different mind set. Most people want BTS to still big sweet young man like 2013. We're not the same people just because on life. BTS change people say I don't like the new music, I don't like the new hair style, different clothes, seem too aggressive, they seem so dark. I think we should be more open minded because they're still trying to find their space in world (as individuals) they have been under a microscope every since BTS. Let them be themselves and do as they please for once. They have given 13yrs of their lives to the prefect image of kpop. My interpretation: This is like a letter to his haters, bullies, harassers… set me free, which is more let it go of your unfounded hate-judgment-ugliness towards me. All your ugliness, all your shady effort to destroy me isn’t working, you didn’t bring me down, you didn’t destroy me…you don’t have that power over me anymore. I think autotune was used to show Jimin "Finally Freed" of his Demons! The message Jimin is sending is so strong..he is now freed from his "haters". He is going into this full force, without fear and full of hope for His future. This is a masterpiece, just awesome! Bravo Jimin!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
You should recognize Silent Hill! The carousel scene is just like a prelude to this video! Even Jimin has blue eyes and hair like Alessa. And the poem on the body is like exorcism marks! And yes, the demon Jimin now is free! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jimin explained what he wants to be free from in his lyrics. You probably want to watch the MV again and read the lyrics closely and pause if you have to.
Продюсер Pdogg сказал, что своим альбомом Чимин разрушит Кпоп и перевернет мир! Он прав! Он хочет свободы от той клетки, в которой они заперты. Меня потрясли "Fuck off my way"!
I think Jimin is being set free from the demons he fights within himself and now he’s free to be himself and not constantly being told what to do… say.. etc.
life in general can be dark when you think about it. We live within society's boundaries stifling our full character. Now he is asking viewers to accept him fully ... not what we perceive him to be. That's life most live. We want to be freely ourself but to fit in we can not be. As he sang there are those who will mock him but he won't let it hold him back any more. Bless him. May he get to show all fully who he is. As for darkness representing cult I find that laughable. Dark expressions, dark dancing, dark clothing is not nor ever been cult like. That's in society's mindset that needs to be cleansed. Stop pigeon holing people. Just as Jimin's message in his song is asking. He’s MV meaning it’s about the haters always critiques him and always hurt him and keeps pushing him in the dark ….now he’s feeling free… even it hurts , he wants to get out of that ….. even the poem written in he’s chest ( German Poem ) have a meaning, if you know Jimin …. He never going to do something with out of messages or meaning
If you haven't followed Jimin from his debute than you will be confused. Research his journay with Bts. He was hated and got death threats for no reason. I hope this helps a just a tad. Have a great night...✌💜💜💜
It could of course be a coincidence, but I personally interpret Set Me Free and Like Crazy to be songs exploring queerness, alienation, and mental health. Both tracks are vague enough to sustain multiple different readings, but to me these are the interpretations that resonate most.
One of Jimins solos are Lie, it matches the feeling. I have a feeling of him breaking free for K pop stereotype to go his own way.... But I am not sure
I think that is also what Pdogg meant when he said K-pop will be ended by Jimin. Jimin is breaking out of that Formulaic K-pop sound and mindset. He is showing his artistry in the manner that he wants to, not Hybe’s methods, Pdoggs sound for BTS over the past 9 years, and the K-pop industry sound. There are so many forms of music in Korea that deserve to also see the light of day. RM is showing this with his many collaborations (pop, indie, alternative, rock). We saw this with Jhope (dark, rock vibes and old school hip hop). I think we will see this with Jimin (dark, light, hip hop, ballads), real relationships with a partner and not all the gay shipping that K-pop/HYBE likes to push. This change in artistry and direction for the solo growth even ties in to HYBE not being able to confirm the members will sign a group contract next year. I think they will stay with HYBE as they have a vested financial interest in doing so, but the group status is completely up in the air. They sacrificed their youth for themselves, the company, fame and wealth. They have found out the fame they have achieved has really hindered their personal lives. I don’t see them wanting that level of fame again when the come out of the military. I do hope they decide to come together as a group for specials over the years, but I want to see them get married, if they want to and have families. Fame is a very empty life not to have what the average person has. They are not gods, they are men loved by millions.
@@nikonladyd4509 Once again I agree. I wish for them to have happy lifes and a family. I do think it will be hard for them because of their fame. But the have been there in spirit for the fans. Some times when I see them I get worried for their psyche.... So much pressure and they keep going. Many people would have broken down by now. Sorry for my english
@@lonehegh8735 I also worry about their psyche as well. The lack of privacy, lack of real relationships outside of the group for some, heavy drinking etc. They are some of the most famous people in the world and many with far less fame have succumbed to the dark side. I think this military break is good so they can develop real relationships with people, heal their bodies from all the stress of travel, hardcore dancing, and drastic dieting. Then come back with schedules like Western artists (2-5 years between comebacks and tours). I meant to say earlier they also do it for Army, but it is time for them to live for themselves. Then they can sustain a long career in music if they choose to do so.
As a K-pop professor I am questioning if you even know the back story of BTS and each individual...he asking to be set free from all his demons especially from all his haters!! Anyone who really knows BTS should know what he is portraying!!!
Thanks! I do teach K-pop classes but I think of myself as a perpetual student of K-pop. I'm always learning so much from my students and now you all and am constantly reminded how deep the knowledge is out there.
I couldn’t help to become disappointed as I watched your reaction, and it could be because Jimin’s song isn’t K-pop but hip hop of the XXIc and beyond, as other commentators, who are knowledgeable of that music genre, are so shockingly recognising. Being submerged into the musical sub-genre pf “K-pop” with its “bubbly pastels”, it seems than Jimin placed you way out of your league, recognising it would have helped. While Jimin’s has poured his life experience in it, he has also pushed forward hiphop surrounding it with Western art,: medieval choir sample, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel God touching a human in the choreo, an Austrian classical poet’s poem on his body, etc, etc. So much to say! so little both of you could say.
It's weird how some people, even Korean Americans, continue to recycle outdated stereotypes and cliches manufactured by anti-asians and other outsiders. It's painful to hear "experts" continue to misunderstand how collaborative creative processes work, remain confused about what k-pop's forms enable and disable, and overstate the meaning of each song in the biography of individual members. It says a lot that maintaining "expert" status requires deleting valid, constructive criticism by actual experts. LOL
You didn't see what he wants to be free from? His lyrics say all. Please, observe his lyrics carefully. And his tattoos ( look like tattoos) using German poems also show his mindset for his artistic life. Unfortunately, I don't agree with any of your interpretations of the song. No, it's not about his angst for the military or taking J-hope's route. Wow, it sounds like you don't know anything about Jimin! Pretty disappointing! I wish you take your time and study a little bit before you do any reaction.
It's Jimin season! Reminds me of MJ when he went solo and was able to express his true individual creativity! Amazing reaction!

Then come back with schedules like Western artists (2-5 years between comebacks and tours). I meant to say earlier they also do it for Army, but it is time for them to live for themselves. Then they can sustain a long career in music if they choose to do so.
JIMIN ended kpop
