    Enjoyed your mobile operation from the Outer Banks of North Cackalacky. I use to run 10 M a while back with a Rat Shack HTX-10 and a K40 CB ant. I was a field tech for IBM . So did a little mobile in between service calls. FYI I'm a transplant in Charlie Tango, was born in Lexington, N.C. The BBQ Capital of the world!

    I’ve used that same antenna with my G90. It actually tunes up on 20 and 40! Of course it’s not efficient but I have made contacts.

    $32 pretty reasonable. In the early 1990's I used a modified CB antenna with a Uniden 2600 and I was able to talk across the country and across the pond using just 25 watts from my car.

    Walt, I have had good luck with a quarter wave CB Firestick and WRC Silver Bullet 1000. I do not use it regularly, but it does work. The tuning positions on the loading coil are simlar to using a 102 inch whip. This must be because they are within a couple inches of eachother electrically.

    So how do I know what part of the 10M band to call CQ on? Is there a certain channel that everyone uses as the calling frequency? I am an Extra so I do have the entire band access.

    Hey UW, I used to have my 1st Wilson Firestick in the early 1980's and made it scream with a Sommerkamp TS-788DX working South America with 80W Barefoot PWR fromn the Radio. Back then I had a elderly CB Radio Buddy named Günter like me living in Braganca southeast from the Suriname / French Guyana Border. SSB Mode operating here Germany back in the Days was against the Law and you were not even allowed to own a Radio with SSB Mode unless you were a licenced HAM Radio Operator. But YFUG didn't gave a Radio America about it even with the true Facts if you got caught in the Act running illegal OP-Modes or just owning such a Radio gave you a fatass Ticket or ina worse Case it made you go to Jail right away. Germany used to had very strict CB Radio Rules till 2006 as they made SSB Mode to be legal with 12W-PEP. Yagi Beams and vertical Base Station Antennas were against the Law til shortly before 1990. Homebrew Antennas were against the Law. GERMONEY isn't hat great of a Country like many Poeple always saying it would be like.
    YFUG was a Brravo Alpha Mexico Florida those Days and looked at over 4000 QSL-Cards and all kinds of Awards from a very famous CB Radio DX Club from allover the World worked on just 1Band (27Mhz).the Black Channels.
    Now you know why 10m isn't that much of an interessting Band to me no more but on and off I still use it to work Stations on a New Band just for the History to make my QRZ.com Logbook looking better...hehehe.😎
    I did hear you last Friday Evening with the QRP Net on 14.320 on 20W with a 52, on 5W with a 41and on 1W with a 40. KO4GSM Steve was a 51 and Kevin K0KLB was hard to make out in the Noise.
    You did a great Job like always, UW. Happy Sunday into NC de YFUG from southwest Germany 💯👍👍👍🙋‍♂🍻

    how does this compare to a little wil.. or a full size wilson... we used a little will here in ve9 land and worked well when bands are open and also able to work repeaters on 10m as well as dx stations on lower parts of the 10m band. its smaller than the bigger antenna version and also smaller than a little tarheal ii or 102 inch whip. would be nice to see those put side by side on a roof through a coax switch.

    I'm interested, particularly given the price. I wonder how two configured as a horizontal dipole would work. One question. They call these 5/8 wave antennas although they're not nearly that long. What is their rationale for that? Do they have the low radiation pattern of a 5/8 wave?

    • @COASTALWAVESWIRES
      @COASTALWAVESWIRES  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are helically wrapped within the fiberglass pole so yes, electrically they are 5/8 wave. My guess is that they also have the 16 degree takeoff angle that a normal 5/8 wave vertical has.

    • @Inkling777
      @Inkling777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Someone could check that out with the two-antenna horizontal dipole I mentioned. If this 5/8-wave helical antenna does have a narrower pattern than the same antenna with quarter-wave elements, the result could be an extremely compact 10-meter beam, although it would be bidirectional.

    • @kc8wvg
      @kc8wvg ปีที่แล้ว

      A great video and info on this Firestick 5/8 wave antenna. And Michael, I've been thinking about trying that setup as a horizontal dipole too. If it hasn't been tried I guess I will have to give it a try. Thanks again,Walt. Hopefully, I'll catch you on the bands. KC8WVG 73's
