The jumpers were originally wool which is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics that exist. Wild roaming sheep, warm and breathable fabric and composts at the end of it's life, oh and wool absorbs and traps carbon while it grows.

the one thing i would correct/add to the video is that baby/toddler items often get recalled so whenever you see something second had it is always best practice to verify them against recall lists. also, for car seats they expire because of use stress and become less safe, and less safe for baby, so always check expiry dates

My best cloth diapering advice is to figure out how hard your water is!! There are ways to treat your water and avoid buildup in your cloth diapers. Of course, no worries about that if you're going to use a washing service or something. Edit to add: Pocket style cloth diapers were the best option in my experience.

One thing we did differently was not using a crib. A friend shared with me the idea of a Montessori toddler bed. I was able recycle some wood from my father’s workshop and build one for my son. He went right from cradle to toddler bed to low twin. So we avoided modern plastic elements and the possible dangers of a crib. Not for everyone but it was great for us.
Also - we did exactly what you talked about with a dresser and a changing pad on it. He still has the dresser - he’s 22 😊

Good on you for reading up on cosleeping before your baby is born. The vast majority of people do wind up sharing a bed with their baby and the biggest dangers come when people don't plan ahead for that reality.
We wound up cosleeping most of the first year with a sidecar crib (so she had her own space when she wanted it, and sometimes she did). She now loves her room and happily sleeps alone most of the time.

The Owlet baby monitor that goes on baby’s foot that monitors vitals during sleep was something my sister LOVED with her second kid. Masimo Stork has a similar monitor as well. It was a game changer for my anxious sister to know an alarm would sound if baby’s vitals dropped.

Congratulations, I'm so happy for you!
One of my biggest tips is buying used clothes (or even gear-not car seats IMO, at least from stores-but swings, bouncers, etc.). Thrift stores, I don't know if there are any in California but there are baby/toddler specific consignment stores called Once Upon a Child that I really like. Not only gives New Life to older outfits but keeps money in the wallet which is important for me specifically but also I don't feel there's any need to waste a lot of money on brand new pretty things that get spit up and pooped on. Not to mention grown out of really fast.
Cloth diapers, I'm sure you're already onto that though.

Congrats again Bonnie, won’t be long until the little angel is here! My sister is a Midwife and doesn’t encourage co-sleeping but says the sleeping environment itself may increase the risk of SIDS more than anything.
At the end of the day you have to do what’s right for you and your baby, all the best with the birth! 💛

      Sorry new to the channel..lol.
I also heard that it's more dangerous with my first baby...etc...i did it the entire time. I still let her sleep in our bed. She's 8 now. I am currently pregnant with a baby boy. I don't plan on doing anything differently.

Hi Bonnie, one tip with the strollers - I have no idea if you would want to have a second baby further down the track or how far apart they would be, but just consider if you need to get a stroller that can be made into a double stroller down the track 😊
Very excited for you! Let all of the opinions wash off your shoulders, and do what feels right ❤️
True story: we had this lovely fully furnished nursery set up and ready to go when baby arrived - we barely used it for the first 3-4 months haha. Definitely no rush to get that done!

This was so lovely to watch you getting so excited, it reminded me of having my first baby 15 years ago! It wasn't quite so easy to be eco back then but we tried our best. We bought a full set of washable nappies second hand, they were fantastic and we used then for 2 babies. Top tip, especially if you plan on having reusable wipes too, is have a couple of lidded buckets around the house (we had one upstairs and one downstairs) for the dirty ones, and also, essential, is a waterproof, sealable sack/bag for when you're out and about to bring dirty nappies home. We did find a disposable brand that were eco enough to pop into our own compost bin at home, they broke down really well, handy to have a packet incase you get poorly and can't keep up with washing, or go on holiday etc. We had the little nightdresses/shirts with no legs!! So convenient for middle of the night nappy changes. We co slept too, so convenient. Have you thought about slings? So nice to keep baby close, bonding (especially for dad) and you can get on with things, I swear some days I wouldn't have been able to brush my own teeth without a sling! 😂

Congrats Bonnie! My third baby is currently 4 months old. We have cloth nappied all of them and my favourite inserts are stretchy flats and any insert made of bamboo or cotton. Wool covers are a great option too. We always did second hand clothes. They are in them for such a short time that most newborn second hand clothes are basically brand new. Editing to say be careful with keeping bubs in a capsule in either pram or car seat for long periods of time as it can restrict their breathing. A pram that can lay flat is better than a capsule/car seat attachment.

I definitely suggest starting with disposable nappies. We transitioned to cloth nappies around 8wks (gradually; only started night nappies around 6mo). It is overwhelming having a newborn so don’t put any extra pressure on yourself!
Also, I really suggest buying a new car seat. They are very susceptible to damage (even the slightest car crash) and for safety reasons it is much better to get a new one.

Kit and kin do eco friendly, sustainable, disposable nappies for when you need convenience and they're the same price as a pack of pampers. Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy, it goes so fast and once they're here it goes even faster!! Also moses baskets are helpful because you can bring the basket downstairs in the day but be prepared they outgrow them so fast 😅 xx

They make bassinets that you pull up to the side of your bed and that side comes down on the bassi. I used one myself and it was so helpful to have my baby near me but not actually on our bed. It made breastfeeding easier on that end.

We co-slept with both our babies and I think it's the only thing that makes sense to be rested as a parent. People have co-slept with their babies for most of human history, so it's the most natural thing in the world. We put a baby bay next to our bed to prevent them from falling out and to have some storage for nappies and stuff 😅 congrats again! You're going to be a great mum 😊

Clothing wise if you’re looking for great longevity. T-shirts & shorts. Especially once they’re over the 4-6 months age.
My boy was still fitting into his super stretchy 3-6 month shorts at 2 years old. His t-shirts I buy them 2 sizes up (oversized look is SO cute & easier to take on & off in general) & he can wear them for a year plus. I really try to get the most use out of his clothes as possible :)

We use Esembly diapers and they’re wonderful. We’ve only used the disposable diapers when our baby was first born because it is a lot of fabric for a newborn. Also, be careful with hand-me-down car seats, as the components deteriorate overtime and can become unsafe. Car seats usually have expiration dates. We got the Nuna Exec because it’s a convertible car seat so they can use it all the way through childhood without having to buy a new one.

Congratulations! Quick note about your stroller and carseat choice. That Britax adapter is for you to use those car seats on a Britax stroller only. You have to buy the adapter from Nuna, and unfortunately, Nuna does not play nice with other brands. You will not be able to use the Britax carseat on any Nuna stroller. Also, I suggest looking at Joolz strollers, fantastic quality and they focus on sustainability (won't work with Britax either though).

Congratulations, two ideas from the American side of the pond, if your doing cloth diapers, perhaps consider checking out some of those portable clothes washers on temp, just to handle cleaning the soiled diapers separate or the standard washing machine to keep the mess from getting on everything else, my grandparents would use a second hand clothes washer but that's a bit much today!, second for the disposable diapers, look for a "diapers genie" to keep that mess manageable for the garbage pickup, and keep the smell down?

I went to a baby shower recently and had no clue what to get mom to be, I was recommended baby cloths all the way up to 12 months because they grow so quick and having lots of diaper sizes on hand because you want the next size up when you need it

Congrats! Cloth diapers are so gentle for the baby’s skin. My son never had a rash.
One of the things I regretted buying was a crib, my son did not like it and I was always scared when he would wake up silently and try to climb it or destroy it 😅 good thing my husband transformed it into a Montessori style bed, best thing ever! It gave him more independence and it was much safer after some adaptations in the bedroom.

Someone made us a stack of soft cotton squares for this but we loved them so much they ended up being used for faces and then runny noses ++ for older kids!

Best wishes! Really fun video to watch! I am a huge car seat nerd (yes, that exists😅) and the baby car seat seems great. For the next seat though, I would really recommend the BeSafe Stretch. Rearfacing until 36kg/138cm (officially to 125cm, but thats a whole other story). For maximum safety babies should at ca 6 months (or when they can sit with little support) switch from the baby car seat to the next (rearfacing) seat. Children should be rearfacing until minimum 8th birthday or when they exceed 36kgs. The moment you forward face a child you increase the risk of them dying/breaking neck/ legs in much slower speeds than when rearfacing. Good luck with everything!

Potty training is kind of hassle whenever it happens, but I find at that young age they are super receptive to being sat on the potty, singing, reading and getting used to doing their thing there! Lots of awesome EC resources on the internet and then your diaper usage goes wayyy down.

I‘m so excited for you! I actually became a mother last year (very surprisingly) and after the first year I’m soo happy still for my healthy baby. But the beginning is hard, so my recommendation is; be gentle with yourself (even if not everything is superecofriendly, like take out or so) because you will get your routine but it may take time. And the second thing I want to say is with the sleeping situation; we bought a Moses crib and while it could work so nicely with a good sleeper, my baby wouldn’t want to sleep even this far away from me😂 so I guess a babybay would be my choice now :) because my baby just slept with me in the bed then and that wasn’t too much space.
Lots of love and energy for you! So happy and can’t wait for your journey to progress 🥰

There are a bunch of brands now that have grow with my baby clothes. Rompers, bottoms, dresses. Beya Made has great clothes and also a Trade Up program where you get money back once your child outgrows the clothes (if you don't choose to save them for future children) they wash the clothes, mend them and resell them.

  • @JavaFirst

You are doing a very smart thing by buying second hand and thinking about what is actually going to be useful. I found that my babies did not fit in newborn clothing so it might be prudent to have an extra outfit or two handy for going home if you don't have a home birth. Do what is right for you. Each person and baby experience are different no judgement here. We did a combination of cloth and disposable diapers.

I’m due next week and I wanted to share some more resources you may enjoy!
GoodBuyGear is great for both used and open box baby gear. ToyCycle is also great for used toys, clothes, and baby gear.
Green Mountain Diapers also make a well-reviewed organic cotton inner diaper. I ended up with both Esembly and Green Mountain Diapers to try.
Bumbleride makes recycled plastic strollers - I got the Era and it’s got great reviews. I believe they’re the only brand available in the US with recycled plastic.
From my research, Monte Design makes the most sustainably made gliders.
I also think Bannor Toys makes some great wooden toys!
I also decided to try Mason Bottles for bottles - they make a silicone bottle nipple you can attach to regular mouth mason jars!
One brand I’ve found that does a ton of greenwashing is Lovevery.
