You guys nailed again with your pick of Brazilian goodies! The seller did not steer you wrong. These are all very popular treats. :) The potato sticks can be used as topping for 1) strogonoff on rice, 2) hot dog with tomato and onion vinaigrette, corn, catchup, mustard, mayo and mashed potato, 3) chicken casserole or 4) potato salad with ham or chicken and apple.
Uva means grape and this is 100% grape juice. It’s so good!
It’s been years since I last drank Tang but I grew up drinking it and all flavors are good! My favorites were the passion fruit (maracujá) and the tangerine (tangerina). And the mango one, of course. :)
You can make brigadeiro with Toddy: 1 condensed milk can, 3 tablespoons of Toddy and 1 tablespoon of butter. Keep stirring everything constantly on a pan in low heat until the mixture becomes thick and remove from the heat when you can see the bottom of the pan when you scrape it with a wooden spoon/spatula. Put the mix in little cups or bowls, top it with chocolate sprinkles and eat it with a spoon. That’s called “brigadeiro de colher” (colher means spoon). Easier than rolling into little balls. 😜 For a fancier brigadeiro, replace Toddy with cocoa powder and for a even fancier one, try Dutch process cocoa powder.
More videos trying Brazilian treats please!

    From the top:
Batata Palha: Straw potato sticks. Really not meant to be eaten as a snack. They usually are used as a topping on hot dogs, pasta, and etc. They add texture to food. It's eaten by itself like... 2% of the time lol? Not near 50/50. They're not even usually sold in the chips isle, it's in the cooking isle.
Grape Juice: Our grape juice is a little less sweet than usual. Uva is grape.
Goiabada: Guava paste. Goiaba is guava. But there's a big catch here. It's very very rarely eaten by itself. You usually pair it with cheese and eat both at the same time as a snack called "Romeo & Juliet", Romeo e Julieta. So next time you have some, cut a piece of cheese and put some goibada with it. Usually it's 2:1 cheese to goiabada. It's also usually used in pastries. (I was typing this while watching and you mentioned the romeo & juliet!! So proud of you!!). The banana you mentioned is actually more popular as a thing by itself, called "bananinha" (small banana)".
Pacoca: Pronounced Passo-kah, to put it very simple, It's the center of a reese's cup. It's very dry and there's even challenges and jokes about trying to talk with a mouthful of them. A Reese's cup is a pacoca with chocolate covered. That one is called "moreninha do rio", which means "the brunette of rio", or darker skinned girl of rio. It's a popular image of the pretty girl with golden skin in the beach. And wow you caught that it's where the peanut butter cup came from : ) Although reeses is adamant that they invented it lol.
Brigadeiro: First a small history of a finger food in brazil. In parties and social events, you'll almost always have a few finger food snacks of 2 classes. Docinhos and Salgadinhos. Salgadinhos literally means "Little salty things", and docinhos "little sweet things". The salty ones, or savory, is like the pao de queijo you tried before, the coxinha, and etc. The sweet ones are usually fudges of different flavors, almost all made from condensed milk. The brigadeiro is the chocolate "docinho". And the most popular one. The first one kids take in the parties and that everyone wants. Both the salgadinhos and docinhos have an individual size, and a mini version, hence why you had cheese bread balls in Brazil and then the bigger one last video.
Trakinas: It's sort of the poorer version of the passatempo cookies you had before. But their flavor is usually an odd mix. Like this one, chocolate cookie with strawberry center. This is like the cookie I had in our school lunch wishing it was a passatempo lol.
Tang: Our Kool-Aid. Some kids eat the powder too lol. The most popular ones are guarana, lime, caju and grape.
Toddy: Chocolate milk, and then Nescau and Nesquik came in and said "we have vitamins and all the positive stuff" and Toddy slowly became rarer. It's like the whole Coke vs Pepsi in brazil. Nescau vs Toddy. The brigadeiros are made with it usually!
Overall you're like the one channel I've seen that actually got popular and common things from Brasil!

I would never have a peanut butter sandwich without some jelly/jam or honey or sometimes banana (as was mentioned by someone else). Although I do love peanut butter toast with just butter (and maybe cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top) - have to put on the toast while it’s still hot so it gets melty 😊

We usually cook home made brigadeiros with Toddy, so it’s basically condensed milk, butter and toddy, if you don’t want it too sweet, you can add double cream as well.
About the “batata palha”, we usually eat with some specific dishes which usually is more creamy, so we add the potato chips in this shape to give the crunchiness for the whole thing. 😘

Two things, Tang started the U.S. back in the 60s, I was a little kid when my mom bought the orange powder drink and my older brother and it for breakfast or lunch but my mom didn’t want us to get use to drinking “fake orange juice”! Lol.. she made sure we had real OJ.. but Tang became more popular when NASA gave it to the astronauts when they were in space. I haven’t heard of any other flavors except orange, I heard a few years ago that tang did have other flavors, but it wasn’t something I wanted to buy. It seems like it’s a kids drink. But I would love to try Mango flavored Tang! Lol… Ok, second think I want to ask: What is that picture in the background? It looks like a city somewhere in the U.S. It just looks familiar. I can see a street sign but can’t make out the name.

    • @ThisWithThem
      @ThisWithThem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ThisWithThem Hi! Thank you for getting back to me! 💖... I haven't drank any in a very long time so maybe there is different flavors now. I'll check next time I go grocery shopping. Yes, real fresh squeezed is best! The real deal...I thought that looked like part of L.A., I know what L.A. streets look like! Lol, I know Silverlake. I grew up in the L.A. area but closer to the coast but my friends and I would go out there once in awhile. I don't live in L.A. anymore but I visit my mom and friends when I can. Just a two hour drive. If you two ever go back to Southern California, go see the local beaches. South of the LAX airport. I wish I could be your tour guide! Lol..I know all the good local restaurants and fun places to see. Also, I think I had mentioned in a comment that my husband's niece lives in Chippenham. She's lived in the U.K. for over 20 years and we just haven't had the time to visit but we're hoping to soon, she said we can stay at her house. We'll visit her for a couple of weeks. Sometimes life just gets in the way to do what we want to do.
