Wow, what a fantastic chat, Ashes to Ashes is classic Bowie. I was lucky enough to meet Visconti a few years ago when he was touring with Woody Woodmansey (Drummer with the Spiders from Mars), top bloke!!
Usually I don't like first listens/reactions based on live versions, and this song is such a perfect, clean studio track. But this is such a great live version! Tony Visconti is so appreciated here in the UK, for his work with David Bowie, Marc Bolan/T.Rex, and many other great artists. As a fairly new bass player too, I appreciate Tony for that also. Amber and Jay, give the studio version of this song a listen too, plus the official video which was an inspiration for the UK 'New Romantics' movement. P.s. was lucky to see David Bowie live 4 times between 1983-2004 P.s.2 I want to get that Tony Visconti album!
What I love is, when you guys get a famous singer or producer on, they are so modest, they just love their music, and want their talent to be shined out for the world (like david bowie)
David Bowie's life made such an amazing impact on the world and his death left a hole in it as well. I said it before and I'll say it again, I have loved David Bowie since I was 7 years old and saw Labyrinth when it first came out. He truly did have the heart of a poet and the mind of a machine. So ahead of his time and things that are happening with the music world and social media, he called that at a time when the internet was barely a thing in people's homes. It's amazing to see Tony Visconti still doing his thing too. One of the greatest producers in rock music. 😎👍
The first time I heard this I was driving home from school and the radio station I was listening to just received their copy of Scary Monsters. They played "Scary Monsters", "Ashes To Ashes" and "Fashion" in a row and I had to pull over because it was just blowing me away.
This was my favorite Bowie album, and that's saying something given how much great music he made. I just about wore the vinyl flat! Great to see Toni! Peace from SF
Bowie has so much charisma and stage presence. I can only think of one other front man that approaches him, Freddie Mercury, not bad company. I'll never forget wrecking my car in a bad accident in 1974. I was listening to Bowie-Pinups album when it happened. I got out of my wrecked car and Bowie was still blasting inside the car, luckily no-one was seriously injured. I guess Bowie saved us.
Awesomeness 👌 👏 👍 😍 guys!!! What an honor!!! I would have loved an hour with Mr. Visconti!! I absolutely proclaim that Bowie is the World's Greatest Rock Star. Ever. Extant. Period. ❤😊😢 I am one of the VERY LUCKY FEW who has seen him live, and due to a last minute venue change, from about 5 feet from the stage. It was kinda like standing in my living room!!! I ❤️ miss that genius so much. This was sooooo cool 😎, thanks, you two are THE BEST. ❤😊😊
Great interview. Ashes to ashes is one of my top 5 favourite songs and probably my favourite music video. So reflective of the lyrics, so anthrological but I never realised that the album was so influential in the new romantics/ syth pop movement of the 80s. Great job!
Thank you to Tony Visconti for contributing to this channel. From now on I'll think of David Bowie, reading a big Chinese porcelain book, every time I hear his little China Girl. 😊

I found a music video from 1929. The video is Jimmie Rodgers “the singing brakeman”. He was known as the father of country music, inspiring such greats such as Hank Williams Sr, Ernest tubb, and so on. He died of TB in 1933 at the age of 36
