You are welcome, and I absolutely mean everything that I said. You are so generous to share your knowledge here on youtube, and I just THANK YOU for your time and effort in doing this. I took some jewelry/metals classes in college, and your videos are great refreshers for me, and your silliness reminds me of my teacher's silliness. She would always smell the rubber cement etc and then tell us that we didn't see it. She was awesome. So are you. Thanks again.

You're videos are SOOO HELPFUL! Some of your tips would never be found in books or taught in classes- like the liquid paper stopping solder from flowing. We used yellow ochre for that, but it was messy and inconvenient to use. I wish more people would make videos like yours. Most jewelry making videos on here are wire wrapping and beading, not acual hand fabrication, smithing, forming etc.
    Thank you, thank you.

Could watch you play with different wires all day! So inspired. I want to make a bunch of cuff bracelets. May be a tutorial on finishing the ends.

Hi Nancy, am new to the wonders of Jewelry and loving your videos and web site.
As a suggestion I would recommend that if people are looking for a drill - I would recommend a battery version, they tend to be of a lesser torque and allow for better control. In the UK the cost of an entry level battery drill is very similar to a power drill. Also, one other advantage, they are lighter and easier to carry around, so not as much destruction to your normal studio when moving around.
Finally I also use a hand drill ($6 online) and a bench vice. You can elect to tighten the drill against the wire or as I do clamp a cup hook or eye hook in the drill and fasten the wire to the hook.
Gradually working through your videos, so far they are all excellent!!
    Thank You
    Andy

My personal favorite, was the last one you did.
Many Moons (Years) ago when working in Jewelry, the guy's...yes only the guys soldiered, two were winding the wire, each with a screwdriver and twisting frim opposite sides of about 8 ft.. I walked in an said , wouldn't it be easier to bolt a headless nail or screw, on the table then use a drill while pulling it tight? They said girls??? I walked into the other room, then heard noise...guess what, girls know stuff too. Sorry this video brought back a memory. Haha

@nvrba Hi Nvrba, it gets more difficult, yes. But, I anneal the wires after they are twisted together and that makes them more flexible - especially if copper is involved. Hope this helps. N

Use a vice instead of the tongs as it gives you much more control and one of your arms is also freed up. Also, a cordless screw driver has a far better gear ratio and torque than the 110/220V type of drill which is more suited to lengths of 2 meters/yards and longer.
Never use an electric drill (wired) with one hand. It's asking for trouble and worse still, you might damage your piece of jewellery ;)
    Just Sayin'

I usually use anywhere from 28 -22 gauge. Sometimes, I just mix them all together. Experimentation might help you to determine which gauges work best for you! If you can twist it, it should work.
