- Here is how change the wheel studs to longer ones, so now I can use my new 16" Mercedes rims.
I bought mine here:

Mercedes R12 nut: www.brickwerks...
For any noobs out there, you don't need a hydraulic press to remove and replace studs. A good slap of a little sledge hammer will pop them out and you can use the lug nuts to tighten and pull them back into place. I guess if you have access to a professional machine shop then use it. :-)
HI Michael. That's correct, there are many ways to do this job, but as you say, I have access to the tools so why not use it.
Well Italjohn, Great job you did with changing the studs to larger one`s. I 1918 I did the same so when I`m remembering correct in 1918 or 1919.so I do know the struggle you had to fasten the studs and the nuts again. any way nice performance. Great video well narrated Greetings HCS.
Thank you sir 🙂
Half a decade old video and still super useful, thank you ItalJohn 🤗. I'm going to attempt this on the weekend. I have a old canal workshop's manual press, (forged in 1878), it weights about 80kg which I'll use to push out and in, (only paid £20 for it). 😊
My question, is it OK to re-use the hub castellated 46mm nut again or should they be replaced?
Many thanks.
Hi there Peter. I have always reused mine, with no trouble. I don't know if it needs to be changed everytome you loosen it?
@@Italjohn thank you my friend, I'll follow the master and re-use mine. All the best to you Sir 🫡
great video! i need to put longer studs on mine for my new wheels and will be tackling this soon! who the hell has a 500nm torque wrench though...lol I sure dont :(
Great content. Keep it up!
Hi John Thanks for the videos they are really helpful, I have exactly the same wheels as you matched in the video, what size of tires did I put on them?
My tires are 215/60R16
It's something like 90 per tyre in greece (Michelin)you can get cheap ones in this side for 60 per piece
EXCELLENT JOB NICE CHAP EXPLAINED IT WELL
Takk for svært god video.
Så bra at du likte den 😀
Great job John. Did you need to drill out the stud holes in the alloy? What width are yours?
No drilling needed. 16x7,5 et36
@@Italjohn 16mm? Thanks for your help. I have a set of Ronals. The stud drops into the hole, no problem. I ‘pulled’ the 5 studs into the hub plate using my air gun. I don’t have a press. As a result, the studs are not quite perfectly aligned and the alloy will not push on. The stud hole is 14mm. So, I either find someone with a press, or slightly increase my alloy hole, or both 😀
No, not 16mm. The rims are 16" and 7,5" width.
The stock rims are sooo nice ,why not keeping them ?or put chrome hubcaps on them !
It's almost impossible to get decent tires for the 14" rims. 16" on the other hand have loads of options.
Italjohn13. How hard can it be? I have these tyres ,search for Michelin agilis or Michelin classic I can sent you pics if you want
Hi John, nice video! Where did buy the longer studs? I can't seem to find them anywhere. I need 75mm for my application (I think). I have ET60 + 25mm spacer = et35. Currently te standard bolts (47 mm) fall 3 mm short in the spacer.
Here you go Yuri: www.brickwerks.co.uk/long-wheel-studs-60mm-m14x1-5.html and www.brickwerks.co.uk/conversion-stud-60mm-m14x1-5.html
And please subcribe to the channel as well :-) Thanks :D
in the US go to t3technique.com
Maybe next time Lincoln Logs for a jack stand!
How many mm. For rear spacers?
I used 6mm spacer
To switch my Syncro to Mercedes rims, I had to change to 72mm studs
Can you tell me the dimension of knurled for the stud ? I wanna know the wheel hole for knurled stud.
I don't know what knurled means??? This is the bolts: www.brickwerks.co.uk/long-wheel-studs-60mm-m14x1-5.html and www.brickwerks.co.uk/conversion-stud-60mm-m14x1-5.html
I found www.dormanproducts.com/p-3544-610-246.aspx?year=1990&make=Volkswagen&model=Transporter&origin=&parttype=Wheel%2520Lug%2520Stud
А если ещё заменить подшипник роликовый на двухрядный шариковый , укоротить распортную втулку то получаетсяещё лучше. Очень хорошее ваше видео.
Do you have a video on doing the front wheels?
I have a 1989 Syncro.
The front wheels just needed longer studs/bolts, as it has bolts before. I don't know how it is on a syncro, sorry.
@@Italjohn OK.
