Kevin Schwantz wins the 1989 British Bike Grand Prix | Donington Park

The Bike GP season moved on to Donington Park for Round 12 of the 1989 500cc World Championship series and the British public witnessed one of the best Grands Prix of the season.

Wayne Rainey (Yamaha) was starting to feel the pressure of leading the series, only 8.5 points ahead of Eddie Lawson (Honda) and Kevin Schwantz was keen to secure his 4th victory of the season so far. In this clip we join the race in the closing stages as Niall Mackenzie, Eddie Lawson and Kevin Schwantz all pushed hard for the win!

Kevin Schwantz was perfectly set up for the 1989 championship. He lost it through unforced errors. Rainey succumbed to an unforced error of his own. All that hard work of Eddie Lawson and Erv Kanamoto paid off in the end, they well and truly earned that title.
