Fighting since the Spanish invaded the Caribbean. It’s a miracle so many of us still come up with significant Taíno DNA in 2025. I always tie the spirit of our ancestors to how resilient Boricuas have always been. It’s literally in our blood. Gentrification won’t kill us off either. Anyone who doesn’t understand why we will dress ourselves in the flag or colors of the flag simply needs to be directed to songs like Preciosa, Que Bonita Bandera, Puerto Rico y Yo, Me Quedo en Puerto Rico, Querido FBI, Oldest Colonia, Afilando Los Cuchillos, and La Mudanza.
I can explain the lyrics to my girlfriend in every way possible, but its just a feeling, a passion and raw emotion that really affects you when listening to these songs. The cultural pride runs deeeeeep. The ancestors speaking to us through the music❤ Bendición❤🇵🇷
AWE Mima, don't cry. God is good and things always get better. We as a people just never lost faith that good things will come & what better way than with the universal language called music. Que VIVA Puerto Rico🌴🐰🐸🇵🇷👹❤️🌹💋🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
I just wanna say I have watched every video you guys have posted and I love and appreciate them so so much as someone who grew up a No Sabo kid I had to look up the English translation and really understand the lyrics and the depth of the music and my dad is from the island and he just passed away in November and I wish nothing more than for him to be here to listen to this music and teach me the histories even more so to have your mother be able to do that for me has been so fulfilling.
The flag was perceived to be a call for independence from U.S. rule and so there was a law that was passed in 1948 by a U.S. appointed governor that criminalized owning or displaying a flag, singing a patriotic tune or even writing about independence. Some people died and others were imprisoned, as a result. It was overturned 9 years later for violating free speech. This time, however, the color of the flag was changed from a lighter shade of blue to a darker shade of blue to match the blue on the U.S. flag.
La salsa, la bomba y la plena siempre ha sido musica de resistencia 🇵🇷♥️

People died for just showing the flag. Puerto Rico has had dictaduras for governments.
