    Happy Monday guys! It was a really interesting experience to drive the Maybach GLS and the base GLS 450 so close together. Obviously, the Maybach is going to feel extra exuberant, but we were impressed with how the base engine GLS 450 drives. It still looks like a minivan on the outside but we are looking forward to a refresh coming very soon.

    Consider me getting old early at age of 38 with kids and all but I feel like GLS is such a handsome big vehicle which is not in your face all the time. Another one that comes to mind is the new Grand wagoneer, both Gls and wagoneer are so 2021 but still look like they from early 2000s.

      @@jacobbio Maintenance and reliability are aren't exactly the same. You can have a low maintenance Cadillac that burns oil or has electrical faults or you can have a high maintenance G Wagon that might not require the frequent repairs like a Land Rover. People with money might not care about regular maintenance costs but many do consider reliability when shopping. This is why BMW leases so many cars vs those who purchase and keep their Lexuses.

    Comparing base models of the old 2019 GLS and the new generation of the GLS. The old looks a lot bigger, bolder and more muscular (big), the new looks quite weak, and you can easily mistake the new generation GLS on the streets for a GLB by the front, side, and rear. I own a 2019 GLS 450, and without amg packages or the 550 model, it still looks amazing. The new generation of GLS is more appealing on the higher AMG trims, must-have body kits to make the car look big and strong. Pretty sure many would agree?

    It would be helpful if you also mention the payload capacity along with the tow capacity. The payload is the limiting factor in it's ability to tow. I do understand the payload varies based on the equipment but it's helpful to get a sense. For example, the 2021+ GLE can tow 7700lbs but has a less than 1100lbs payload which assuming a 600 lbs tongue wt gives less than 600lbs for passengers and cargo in the car. A family of 4 will easily exceed 600lbs.

    • @larrywexner4163
      @larrywexner4163 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      idk what year it was. but recently they've turned into a "budget" brand. Don't get me wrong, they're still luxurious and expensive. But they've axe'd their top-end designs to promote their lower end sales.
      Example look at a the AMG GTR and the AMG A45. the A45 has a similar grill and interior despite being so much cheaper, but the fact that it resembles a car worth $120k really entices buyers looking for a $50-60k car.
      Overall the economy has shown increasing apathy towards expensive brands, so said expensive brands are forced to cater to a "poorer" audience. And one of the symptoms of that are "bland" designs. And yes its a GLS, meaning S is in there. But this is the SUV-segment so S doesn't mean much. For instance the GLS costs as much as a Toyota Land Cruiser yet a S-class sedan is so much more than an Avalon/Camry or even a Lexus equivalent.

    Interesting, my 2021 X5 45e is not the top end model and I like the interior better especially the fact that you CAN NOT find and hard touch scratch plastic ANYWHERE in the cabin. Soft touch all the way down to the doors bins. I also find the I drive easier to use and it’s much more controlled drive and felt better put together when we cross shopped the gle and when we drove the x7 and the the gls as we weren’t sure if we needed that level of space. Point is, we felt like the quality was better with bmw

      I’m huge on interiors with no hard plastics. You would love the Jeep Grand Cherokee summit with the $5k leather package. Leather stitched all the way to the door bottom, the housing for the rear air vents and USB ports(part that the arm rest screws into) is Also wrapped in leather which is insane! Dash, bottom dash, and glove box door ETC. Everyone I explain this to says “who cares” , I do when I’m paying money for a car.. LOL.

      @@Natethegreat200c oh definitely makes sense. We actually 2 years ago had an Audi Q7 in the shops before the x5(side note audis are great when they work... yeah but like just don’t buy one) so we were given a limited grand Cherokee and it was nice but I have to say the quality of the leather was not as nice as I’d like and did not feel as nice and supportive as the leather in the bmw or the Lexus vehicle we own as well. Also I like a car that has a bit more do it all vibe. So with this new X5 they tried to target land rover discovery as in recent years those vehicles have stolen sales from BMW X5. Sooooo the new X5 can be lifted with air suspension to 10.6 inches of ground clearance, with the off road package with body cladding and skid plates and high side wall tires 18inch wheels, we own land in NorCal and all of our neighbors are like how’s that thing getting up the dirt mud hills? And we are like people underestimate this vehicles capabilities daily on trains as well. Plus we got the paint protector that self heals so you can rub pin stripes right off. Then you get on road hit sport hybrid mode get 33 miles to the gallon or hit sport mode lowers the car to just 5 inches above the ground stiffens the dampers and pull 4.8 vbox tested 0to60 times. It really is remarkable. There’s a video of bmws x5s using Land Rover testing grounds in mammoth, we did that trial with our X5 too in mammoth first week we owned it, all the Land Rover people were scratching their heads, we even got questions from the Land Rover tour guide who was surprised we were keeping up the entire time. Then when we all got on road, we left them in our dust cus this giant vehicle defies gravity with its cornering ability. You push it to hard and the damn back end just steps out like a sports car and torques you through turns. On road drive dynamics up here in nor cal mountains and off road capabilities Are great! That’s what would stop me from getting that jeep. I do like how the keep looks better than our X5 tho 🤷🏾‍♀️

    The S-Class of SUVs? I'm not so sure that nomenclature is applicable these days. This vehicle looks so anonymous in this low-trim option. Yes it is refined and built well, but there is no special feeling associated here until you at least get the GLS580 with some option packages. The interior is nice, but for the money, several other 3row SUVs come to mind. GV80 Prestige, XC90 Inscription,(yes, I know they're in a different class, but they aren't that much smaller, particularly on the inside), and even BMWs own X7 are all on par. S-Classes do not have an "at par peer" in its class. And I HAAATEEE MBZs new turn signal/gear stalks. They look especially cheap! BUT I do love that MB reverted back to straight 6s(sounds really good too), at least for the time being.

      Looks like a giant Highlander. Yes you need to the GLS580 for it to look the part. For the life of me I can't understand why MBUSA won't offer the AMG sportswear on the 450 model. It is THE stupidest decision that they continue to make. That said, the GV80's third row is a joke by comparison and the Volvo has a lawnmower engine. X7 is far more desirable.

    I don’t see how this is even comparable to a bmw x7 this thing looks so god damn cheap on the outside. Fake grills in cheap black plastic, black plastic cladding around the entire vehicle and the front of it looks so bland and cheap. The interior also features hard touch plastics, which you will not find at all anywhere on a bmw x7, even in the trunk. This is just an example of overpriced cost cutting.

    The giant fake grills need to go. And the black plastic body cladding cheapens the look of the GLS 450. Mercedes forces you to get the AMG package &/or the GLS 580 in order to get the body painted wheel arches & bumpers.
