Comparing base models of the old 2019 GLS and the new generation of the GLS. The new generation of GLS is more appealing on the higher AMG trims, must-have body kits to make the car look big and strong. Pretty sure many would agree?
Yes, I thought I was the only one to see that. They figured out buyers will indeed forgo true quality in lieu for the badge. But MB and BMW lease so many vehicles, this may be less of a concern for them than say mainstream brands like Jeep, Kia, and Hyundai that are killing it these days.
I agree. If only Audi made a comparable vehicle since I am an Audi fan. But as it is, I think the X7 might be their best non-sporty model in their lineup.
It would be helpful if you also mention the payload capacity along with the tow capacity. The payload is the limiting factor in it's ability to tow. I do understand the payload varies based on the equipment but it's helpful to get a sense. For example, the 2021+ GLE can tow 7700lbs but has a less than 1100lbs payload which assuming a 600 lbs tongue wt gives less than 600lbs for passengers and cargo in the car. A family of 4 will easily exceed 600lbs.

idk what year it was. but recently they've turned into a "budget" brand. Don't get me wrong, they're still luxurious and expensive. But they've axe'd their top-end designs to promote their lower end sales. Example look at a the AMG GTR and the AMG A45. the A45 has a similar grill and interior despite being so much cheaper, but the fact that it resembles a car worth $120k really entices buyers looking for a $50-60k car. Overall the economy has shown increasing apathy towards expensive brands, so said expensive brands are forced to cater to a "poorer" audience. And one of the symptoms of that are "bland" designs. And yes its a GLS, meaning S is in there. But this is the SUV-segment so S doesn't mean much. For instance the GLS costs as much as a Toyota Land Cruiser yet a S-class sedan is so much more than an Avalon/Camry or even a Lexus equivalent.
Interior is nice until you press on be dashboard and it creaks like a lego set. I say this as a GLE owner, these models have lovely materials but the construction of the interior leaves something to be desired.
I don’t like the front end at all either. And that blue paint sure shows off every bit of bug guts that end up on the front end. I’d be cleaning this off after every days driving to get off the bug guts. I do it on my new white Mazda CX-5 too.
Interesting, my 2021 X5 45e is not the top end model and I like the interior better especially the fact that you CAN NOT find and hard touch scratch plastic ANYWHERE in the cabin. Looks like a giant Highlander. Yes you need to the GLS580 for it to look the part. For the life of me I can't understand why MBUSA won't offer the AMG sportswear on the 450 model. It is THE stupidest decision that they continue to make. That said, the GV80's third row is a joke by comparison and the Volvo has a lawnmower engine. X7 is far more desirable.
Diesel diehards now trying to do hybrids, that brushed off as heavy and all the junk back in 2010. Now, they cant even build a full hybrid. Anyway, nice SUV but aging looks.

The S-Class of SUVs? I'm not so sure that nomenclature is applicable these days. This vehicle looks so anonymous in this low-trim option. Yes it is refined and built well, but there is no special feeling associated here until you at least get the GLS580 with some option packages. The interior is nice, but for the money, several other 3row SUVs come to mind. GV80 Prestige, XC90 Inscription,(yes, I know they're in a different class, but they aren't that much smaller, particularly on the inside), and even BMWs own X7 are all on par. S-Classes do not have an "at par peer" in its class. And I HAAATEEE MBZs new turn signal/gear stalks. They look especially cheap! BUT I do love that MB reverted back to straight 6s(sounds really good too), at least for the time being.
@@MercOne i agree on all fronts. BMW allows the buyer to dress a 40i model all the way up.
@@hellkitty1014 Yes. Mercedes is just being dumb on this one. Makes no sense. X7 is much sexier and better looking to my eye too.
@@MercOne no X7 looks like a bigger X5. None of these are distinguishable but GLS is more subtle, which is better
@@jackz4149 If you think dull as dishwater is distinguishable.
"Bar of soap", " bloated up E-class". I really like MBs but your descriptions are hilarous so I don't get offended one bit
Extremely Boring Escalade , Grand Wagoneer, and X7 look better.
I'd rather buy a loaded Sienna or Carnival.
For the price of a loaded GLS you can easily buy both loaded. But people buying it probably won't care. Star on the car is more of a status symbol.
who can afford?
I'm a Mercedes fan for sure, but the GLS just isn't it. Escalade or X7 for me.
Diesel diehards now trying to do hybrids, that brushed off as heavy and all the junk back in 2010. Now, they cant even build a full hybrid. Anyway, nice SUV but aging looks.
Doesn’t look as luxury
It looks soooooo boring....😏😏
Mercedes-Benz has falling behind in the SUV ... market
American Premium Full Size SUV´s are better, very luxurious too, more room inside and a better price.
I would say that this is the most boring vehicle on the planet, but Korea & Japan have cornered the market on cookie cutter soulless transportation.
Bruh. Meh.
I don’t see how this is even comparable to a bmw x7 this thing looks so god damn cheap on the outside. Fake grills in cheap black plastic, black plastic cladding around the entire vehicle and the front of it looks so bland and cheap. The interior also features hard touch plastics, which you will not find at all anywhere on a bmw x7, even in the trunk. This is just an example of overpriced cost cutting.
That fake honeycomb grill is disgusting on this pricey of a vehicle.
Wow this is ugly.
It's so boring and why does it have fake vents
The giant fake grills need to go. And the black plastic body cladding cheapens the look of the GLS 450. Mercedes forces you to get the AMG package &/or the GLS 580 in order to get the body painted wheel arches & bumpers.
Not anymore
Sorry, not a fan of the music over your voice at the intro. They're competing.
