  • Volleying is difficult but simple. many people find it hard because they were taught a few key parts incorrectly. In this video I help clean that up for you. HAVE FUN😁

Your videos are the best on TH-cam. I really like them and appreciate them too many other ones are only for beginners. Yours are more intermediate to advance. So thank you very much for that. One thing I would love to see that I don’t see any other videos on as had to create, massive top spin on your strokes and your serve. A lot of times other players I hit with half a brushing sound when they hit either when hitting short or when they’re on the baseline or on a kick serve, they have a very pronounced brushing sound, and I can’t seem to get that sound. So if you could do a video about that and had a generate that kind of spin and sound that would be amazing. Ty

Wow this is the best volley explanation video I’ve seen. I really like the split step detail, you split to get lower. Thanks!

It's a very often overlooked adjustment that costs people time. It also gets the movement forward easier 😁

Best video forever! This will definately help me improve my volleying! (edit: I keep avoiding the ball)

This is a really great video on the volley. I generally hold my racket edge on in the ready position- but now I'll shift my ready position to the backhand side.

    Catching analogy is perfect.
Would you be able to at some point talk about weight transfer through an open stance shot? On the backhand and forehand side? Thank you for all the great info and videos!

There are so many tennis youtube channels...and most of them suck. Yours is the exception: it's awesome. Quick request: could you do a video on how to handle balls that land deep and heavy right to your feet to your single handed backhand? It would be great if you could show how to slice these balls back instead of simply blocking them back.

I was looking for a good video on Volleys to instruct my young son and yours reinforces everything I have been telling him but more impact coming from someone with authority. Thank you so much for posting.

Great explanation of volleying. Throwing a punch and other explanation’s promotes swinging. The concept of catching the ball minimizes that idea. Nice!!!!

At 6:51 you show a great example where you add some slice to the volley. I guess that's a tennis 201 lesson? ;-)

Great video. Should the foot be on toes & palms at all time during play for fast movement?
Are there instances where it is better to have the whole foot heel to toe on the ground for stability?

Coach W, great insight! Could you elaborate on the eye alignment a little bit? I've been using that feeling of catching the ball with the strings and if I'm to move my arm thru the volley to focus on the feel that the inside part of the elbow is moving forward. has been helpful but still find that i frame the ball with the top of the frame (top when sideways but would be 3 o'clock area when looking at the frame normally)

Hey will. Can you make a video about racket take backs during serve?
Specifically when i watch my own video i have excess movement when i lift the racket up. It alightly wobbles before going to trophy. I still make decent serves but cant help to think that the wobbling affects it.

Do you aim your racket face downward/straight or slightly up and slice it down? I've seen both used and it looks like you're slicing after contract somewhat? Or does that depend on how high the incoming ball is?

    • @ironwilltennis
      @ironwilltennis  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Minimal downward motion. It's mostly forward with the racquet barely open. Only changes if I want the ball to glide a little or if I catch the ball below the net

  • @NamesAreRandom

The one key thing you didn't mention that is often not clear is on the backhand you keep the wrist straight which means more body turn as you are almost leaning in with your shoulder, but on the forehand you have the wrist set back which means less body turn. It's not the same and not obvious.
I do think you step back too much particularly for doubles - it's much easier to hit an attacking volley right on top of the net. Sure the pro's go forward and back a lot, but at lower levels where people move less and volley worse better to be not moving back enough and volleying on top of the net then not moving forward enough and volleying 2m back.

    Great content as always!
Volleys at the net are my nemesis! Especially slower “easy” volleys at the net or serve & volley approach shots. Sometimes I can get into a quick net rally and everything is fine. But as soon as I “think” about the shot, everything seems to fall apart. 🫤
