Enclosure build for the XTool D1

  • I decided to build another enclosure similar to my previous one but with some improvements. I use easy to get materials and make the build as simple as possible. Only basic tools required.
    The main body is made of only 5 pieces. The base is 26x26 inches as is completely square.
    The 2 side pieces are 26 inches long and 24 inches tall with an angle that starts 12 inches from the back. The back is 27 3/8 wide (using 3/4 material adds the overlap) and 24 inches tall. The front piece is 7 inches tall and 27 3/8 inches wide. The angled front starts at 12 inches from the back and runs to 7 inches from the bottom.
    For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers.

    Thank you very much for being so detailed and explaining how you do it and what sort of plywood to get. Great timing as I am getting ready to build an enclosure for my Sculpfun S30 10 watt laser and was looking for videos about enclosure ideas and came across your channel (subscribed). Can't wait to watch part 2. Thanks man.

    I love you cabinet, Thanks for the videos, I am starting to build one for my D1 Pro 10w this morning. Off topic just a little, I am a DeWalt man myself, as we have a Stanly Black & Decker plant in out town and can get most of the stuff a little cheaper than retail. How do you like the DeWalt String Trimmer? I have most of the other items you have on the wall but not the Trimmer. Thanks for any advice and keep up the good job with the videos!!

    • @TheClackShack

      I will never by a gas trimmer again. It does well for ordinary lawn work. It’s ok with smaller brush and has 2 speed settings. It isn’t a bush hog

    Great video! I enjoy watching all of your videos. Keep up the great work. Now for the questions. Are you still using or planning on using the air ventilation bottom table on the new enclosure? I like the design. Hypothetically, if I was to use your design. Could I just make the door straight from top to bottom at that angle without making the box design on the front? Would it hit the bottom of the Xtool?

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason that I keep the box shape is so that I can add leg extensions or etc. and elevate the machine. You could do a slant front but it would limit how high you could lift the machine. I am planning on using a bit of a hybrid to the airflow of my old design. I am going to build a duct inside the enclosure and will have holes along the bottom in a similar design.

    Great video, quick questions:
    1: since you’re burning through a sheet of 4’x8’ anyways, why not give your wires on the right an extra 1” of room? I’m having to plug/unplug those all the time so that would take the strain off those bends on the cable
    2: I noticed you’re running 3 leg risers on the tool (very smart) your tool just barely comes up over the front edge of the cabinet. Was there a criteria in deciding how high to have the front come up? Because of my OCD, I would have set it at the same height as the top rail of my tool, maybe even set a decorative lip on the inside to span between the tool and lip. Thoughts on that?

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically, that was just the sizes that I wanted it. A year later and it still works as intended. It now houses an Ortur LM3.

    since you have a wood shop as well as lasers, would a dust collection system work as an exhaust? I have a heated 16x20 shop framed within a 40x60 shed. The dust collector is in the unheated shed with duct work (pvc) routed into the shop. Would I be able to just connect the exhaust to that system?

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have considered the same. Only concern would be a spark making it out into the dust filled tubing. If I were to try it, I would make sure to have some way of keeping sparks from entering the tubing.

  • @Mark-oj7yt

    Do you think this same style build would work for the extension rail add on to the D1? Basically using the same design just modifying the length to fit the extension rails ?

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think so, it would need to be built wide side opening to be able to reach everything better. The added weight to the lid might require some struts near the center to help open it.
