@@teedee5540 I was always told it was a song about a prisoner having a shandy handy to her photos because the woman's weekly was one of the only magazines available in prison.

This song is a lovely snapshot of Australia at that time. Matter of fact , all their music is. I feel nostalgic listening to it. Great song writers great musicianship & vocals😊❤
Because the did it for the money? Don Walker wrote the song, not 'the band' as you put it, and he wrote it for commercial reasons. After all, Ita was Kerry Packer's mistress, she was well connected. I am only going on what I heard Jimmy Barnes say during an interview. They only played Ita live 2 or 3 times during the early 80s, then went all anti commercialization of music industry and anti TV Week and trashed the stage. The next time they played Ita live was in 2015 over 30 years later, and only because Ita herself was meant to attend the concert, but she didn't cause she was crook.
The 1st tune I heard from Cold Chisel whilst being a student in 1980 at high school. Thereafter I fell in love with the band and enjoyed all their songs🎶🎵🎸💯❤
I just love you boys and my favourite Mamm “Ita”. You know all the boys inside idolised this Mum they never had. And you know we all got one of those cakes from her “magazine” ....if we were lucky

My favourite Chisel song. I didn't even realize it was about Ita Buttrose till recently. How lucky is she to have such a great song dedicated to her.
Yeah but the song is a big pisstake at her as she was such an outspoken feminist in the 70's and early 80's through her magazine Women's Weekly.

One of my favourites from cold chisel. And even Ita herself likes this song.
I just realise this song is bloody good after almost 40 years

absolutely
Maybe because Jimmy and the rest of the band hates it?

Not too sure its underrated. Not as commercially popular as others but its absolutely in their top 5 best songs.
Legendary tribute to a great Aussie icon.

Looove this song. Play it more often. Please.
Jimmy barnes, when he didn't scream his songs, had one of the best voices!
Absolutely 👍

This song is written about the great Ita Buttrose AC OBE. I am very fortunate to be having coffee with her next week in Sydney
ewwww she's a tabloid hack ruining trust in abc nationwide. Jimmy was trying to warn us but some Aus too stupid to understand

Love love love this song xx
ita could be Australia,s queen. only if she wanted to be. I love her.
Ita for President.
Every night when I get home
I settle down to prime time limbo
When all the boys are gathered around
Shouting Ita'a on TV
And though the roaches are thick on the ground

Keep the noise of the city down
Get a dose of integrity
Every week, in every home
She got wholesome news for the family
I believe, I believe, in what she says
Yes I do
I believe, I believe, at the end of the day
Her magazine'll get me through
Ita's tongue never touches her lips
She could always be my godmother
And though the desk-top hides her hips
My imagination's strong
She's the sweetest thing I've ever seen
I'd like to take her out to dinner
But when I think about the places I've been
I'd probably hold my fork all wrong
Every day and every night
She's the only one we can depend upon
I believe, I believe, in what she says
Yes I do
I believe, I believe, at the end of the day
Her magazine'll get me through
To every housewife through the land
There is no-one else they can depend upon
How could I not believe, when Ita tells me too

It's about a journalist on Australian tv in the 70s, her name is Ita Buttrose

F'n awesome
Chisel rocks
In 2021 Cold Chisel should have re released this song with Gladys instead of Ita.
What was so great about Gladys?… That wannabe-Kardashian or Cher? Maybe Barnesy or Mossy weren’t fans of Gladys. Go get a grip of it!

I wonder if Mr Barnes ever took Ms Buttrose out to dinner?
As the song hints, Ita is almost almost old enough to be Jimmy's mum, and Jimmy wasn't into MILFs, he preffered hot young Asian birds.
Philip Williams Ita didn't meet them until 2011. But she always got a kick out of the song.
Also, Donald wrote the song. So it's Donald taking her out to dinner.
