  • I have been wanting to do frame stiffeners for years, but denting my frame pushed me over the edge. Since I had to cut off my rock sliders to do the stiffeners, I replaced my rocker panels with 2x6 rectangular tubing at the same time.

    Thank you for being a real man and NOT wearing eye and hearing protection when using power tools and grinding!!!! I understand IF you wear a welding mask when you're welding. IF you don't, you are definitely THE MAN!!!

    You did a really good job tying the rock sliders into the frame stiffeners. I would suggest using liquid nails extreme over your welds as well to seal off everything. Just a little water sitting in the sliders will eat them up. Ask me how I know.

      Yeah its not too much of a problem here in Arizona but i do want it to last forever. Thank you for your comment.

    I also wana do my rockers tgat way for the xo fab hybrid cage to tie into in the front fender. Nice work esp on the rock slider build that looks very solid i would do it similar to that. Another product i like to use is called sem rust mort. You. Apply it with an acid brush and it converts the rust so it wont rust again then i paint it and all that i also seam sealed my unibody stiffeners as well. Good thinking that jeep should last a long time

    Please use eye protection, I have personally seen someone get a piece of wire in the eye permanently blinding them 🙏
    But I really enjoyed the video I miss my XJ , I have a JKUR and I'm going to get and build another XJ 😁

      I will do better going forward. I always seem to get more stuff in my eyes when i wear eye protection, but it would keep wires from hitting them.

    What welder setting did you use ? What gauge is the unibody?

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was a hobart 220 mig welder. The unibody is probably only 1/16" thick, but some places they have two plates thick so 1/8" in the places where it needs to be stronger. So adding 3/16" plate to it, its now 1/4" thick.

      @@ProjectXJ awesome thanks man. Been gathering everything I need to do frame stiffeners on mine. We have a very similar set up. My only holdup was I wasn’t sure how the mid frames stiffeners were gunna fit with the rough country long arm crossmembers.

    • @moejr14
      @moejr14 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did everything line up okay?

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@moejr14 you will need to make the holes on the side plates longer by 3/16" so that they can still bolt on. But it wasn't hard to do.

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @moejr14 i had to drill out/enlarge some of the holes on the frame stiffeners to get the bolts to line up. Just make sure to test all of your bolts before you weld them on. I used the bolts to help hold up the stiffeners when welding the on. You also need a spacer for the crossmember because it has a cut out where a bolt goes into the unibody. I just used a scrap piece from my rock slider materials.

    Did you notice any difference after installing the stiffners?

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a little less flex in the body. My doors don't bind up when flexed out. I also wanted them because i hit my frame on rocks and i didn't want it to dent again.

    On the barnes middle frame stiffners do they weld up to the floor boards?

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess you could weld it to the floor. I have never seen anyone do that though. There was a small gap that i would have had to fill.

    are the rock slider gussets open on the top ? or did you cap them before welding them on ?

    • @ProjectXJ
      @ProjectXJ  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are open. I left the bottom open that way any water will just run out of them and dry. Rust isn't much of a problem here in Arizona.

    • @MrMrsregor
      @MrMrsregor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProjectXJ that make sense. I live in the wet Appalachian mountains, so I might try to cap mine with some thin sheet metal and fill with cavity way…
