    FB’s marketing team really crapped the bed on this one. By going so public with the whole thing they really messed up their image and this whole thing is spreading like wildfire.

      I work in digital marketing and FB's upcoming solution to get around the ios update is even more invasive than what is currently happening. Its called FB API and they are asking all advertisers on their platform to give FB a direct connection to their servers to access customer data. Funny thing is, they "promise" to only look at data that the advertisers allow them to see.

      FB is kinda dead already. My account in FB hasn’t been logged in a long time.
      People, posts, adverts, chats, groups, pages all are boring.
      My friends have moved on to WhatsApp (an FB owned app) for communications. WhatsApp is straightforward, doesn’t require you to create a massive file of your achievements in life.

      The only reason why I have hesitated to change platform, is because I head all my contacts on facebook. But in the last years almost all my contacts, as well as myself, where posting something new only from time to time. And generally not because we have something to say, but we log in only to reply to someone. In many regards, facebook is a living dead. I have to go back years to remember when it was still a lively place. I’m on Storyexpe now. Honestly, after deleting my facebook account, I had really no intention to use social media ever again, at least not this kind of social media. Fortunately Storyexpe follows different logics, not data based. And it has a beautiful design.

    I’ve been seeing a few people comments questioning why companies/apps collecting user data is a bad thing. In a way, yes user data allows for targeted adds which can helpful when you’re trying to find things related to something you want. In exchange however, they build up a profile about you which can include things like your age, your exact location, your email, people related to you, your phone number, your medical record, your full name etc. on top of a list of things you buy. Mind you, this data that’s been collected isn’t only accessible to one company, but many many different organizations and businesses due to data brokers, which essentially sell your data for profit. Wonder why you get spams on email, or random phone calls from numbers you don’t know? That’s why. Also, this data is *public* meaning anyone can get this data by paying for it. So when your data gets collected, it’s not just FB, YT, IG and other social media platforms that know who you are, its everyone who searches for it. The TL:DR of this is by collecting data on users, your personal privacy is being breached and being exposed publicly for profit. Your privacy doesn’t matter to these companies, it’s the fact that you are profitable.

    The idea that ads will become more expensive for every customer they reach is wrong as likely the price for adverts would decrease if this was the case with possibly little net effect. Quite deceptive by facebook, especially as their adverts are by the big guys against the small guys predominately so the net effect of reducing the effectiveness of facebook adverts would probably help small businesses.

    I really don't understand facebooks stand on this. If they make it transparent and give users option if facebook can collect data, and if they press no then charge the user a monthly fee. It's a win win situation all around. You'd be surprise how many people then would still select yes. It would provide an option for those who are security conscious a way of satisfying their needs, while still having a good portion of user data for businesses. For a tech company facebook is actually very resistant to change ??

    Epic has no grounds for their sue, the 30% is like the taxes we all pay, you wanna sell in the Appstore you have to pay it, is that simple, Epic knew this going in, they had the choice.

    • @alaskerheston
      @alaskerheston 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Epic broke the rule through a hotfix (which they usually get a pass) when they actually added a totally different feature that needed to be reviewed, and still whine about how unfair Apple was when they signed up the same terms and conditions that others developers did.
      Epic even said that they were doing it for the small developers, and when Apple lowered the tax to small developers, Epic still got mad because they didn’t get from that cake.

      @The-fs5wn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apple could sue THEM for breach of contract. They don’t have a monopoly, so Epic can’t say they forced their hand. Apple can also prove that they did so deliberately, since their own PR team admits they did.
