Originally SM didnt think to give this song to SHINee, but a girl group (dont remember who), but gladly the boys listened to it and with some re-arrangement fixed it to fit their own style more, and thankfully they did!! Honestly, I dont think any other boy group in the whole industry could pull this off like SHINee. It takes their way and skills in executing the choreo like they do (because the dancing doesn't have to be something crazy energetic to be effective), and in addition the fashion (with a touch of Key), not to mention their unique vocal tones together, and their pristine attitude and facial expression, to really make it a banger-which the most hard chore Korean critics of kpop announced to be THE song of the year. In a stage version Taemin played a piano solo part in the bridge in a kind of "angry" way which perfectly fit the theme, and in a m2 Relay dance (one shot) they lined up behind each other and really made a joke of both performance and each other. It was such a blast to watch. I love how they can be so relaxed with their talent and each other, making jokes and just be unserious about it!
DCM isn't my favorite title track by far (that'd be Good Evening), though I still like it - but it's a very important song within the SHINee canon. When Onew, Minho, and Key returned from the military, they were all worried that, if their post-military comeback flopped, that'd be pretty much the end for them when it came to staying relevant in the industry. Fortunately, the Korean public loved the song and the guys themselves did a *lot* of promotion for it, and so SHINee's remained a 2nd gen group that keeps sneaking into the charts and the public consciousness alongside much younger groups. Really no easy task. Also, no surprise, but the B-sides on this album are full of more recognizable SHINee sounds. I honestly had no idea, but apparently the song is suuuuper popular among younger idols. SM productions in the late 3rd/early 4th gen era in a nutshell! ^^ I know you're not the greatest fan of that sound, but to me it's heavenly sensory overload over the whole spectrum! I can listen to these productions dozens of times and still find new bits and pieces I'm in awe of! 😊
What's funny was during a "Relay" dance they did for don't call me, Onew and Key actively made fun of Taemin's over acting during that one part. th-cam.com/video/3SdinYFN6sM/w-d-xo.html Also a little funny fact that during the shooting of the scenes with the brown jackets and outfits, Taemin's black shirt was a SuperM shirt. He revealed it like he was a super hero and it set off the other three, it was hilarious.
Absolutely. I'm not going anywhere, but current k-pop killed my morale and motivation lately because they used to do it better. So, I'm gonna focus on old k-pop from now on and if a new release hits, cool. If not, it's whatever. There's so much great old k-pop to hear.
