    I am a plant nursery worker, I do saturate the plant with water at least once a week. Some are very root bound so they need extra. And I make sure it drains before I put it back on the rack.

    Gosh i wish i watched this video a couple months ago, when i found a beautiful lush pothos that had lots of signs of root rot which i didnt notice cause i didnt really look for them, and it ended up dying soon after 😭 im still so sad about it, but you live and you learn

    This is very helpful! Thank you for putting things into a five step process that works for plants bought at shops, greenhouses and big box stores - wherever we find them!
    I wish I could apply those rules to plants I buy over the internet. I got three in the mail today. Two were from a greenhouse and couldn't have been treated more differently. One is a Hoya kerrii in a 1 1/2 inch pot. The plant was rootbound in a previous pot and taped securely into the travel pot. It was so dry that the plant was showing wrinkles and stress in its one little heart. It has gently and carefully been placed in a bigger pot with just enough water to help it over its stress. The second plant was also taped into its pot. No matter how carefully I removed the tape, the Peperomia Evan Rosso Metalica lost 18 leaves and was soaked to the gilks. I'm letting it rest in the sun, hoping it will dry out a little. I saved the leaves I could and started a nursery pot. The third came from an 'E' grower. My two cuttings of Philedendron Micans came as one cutting. It arrived very wilted in an inflated gallon ziploc bag. The wet paper towels were quite far away from the eigth inch roots. This is in a glass of distilled water with my prayers that it will live.
    How do we monitor these types of purchases? All had good reviews. I'm doctoring all three plants. I just hope they make it! Advice?

      HI Sally! Wow, that's quite an experience! I personally don't have much experience at all in buying plants online. I'm more of a in-person type shopper when it comes to plants, because I feel like they speak to me. I know that's really strange, but I can't really explain it any other way. Sounds like you've done all the right things by the plants you received, and have a good idea of what they need.
      I guess my only advice is to ask online in Facebook page groups for other peoples experience with purchasing from certain online sellers or see who others are recommending. You could also go back to the seller themselves with a photo of the plant in the state you got it in and work out some type of compensation.
      I don't really know what to advice here because sending plants in the mail is really tricky. There is always an element of risk in purchasing plants online, because it passes through so many hands between the seller and yours, which is why I personally don't buy my plants online. Sorry this was probably not much help at all! :(
      Hope your plant babies recover for you soon xo they are probably still in shock from being in the mail. Thanks for watching!

      @@ThatFoliageLife you did help me more than you realize. I'm super glad to know I did the right thing for my poor new babies. I was feeling guilty that I hadn't done enough for the H kerrii. It had so many roots, but had been so mis handled. I just broke them loose a bit on all sides, replanted with some aerated soil around it, and gave it a little drink and some misting. The peperomia is waiting and I hope it isn't getting root rot. Hoping it will dry out!
      The P micans seems to have perked up in its water glass. I did message the sender to let him know I got my single cutting and it was very withered since the wet towel was not on the very tiny roots. Catty, but I felt like sniping a bit. Lol
      I will ask my FB group if they order from any online places. That is a very good idea that I should have thought of. I do know that Thorten's is good. I have two more coming!
      Thank you for the reasurance and the help!

    When you put plants in shower, how do you keep any soil from going down your drain?

    • @ThatFoliageLife
      @ThatFoliageLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a drain that strains out the chunkier bits, but there's not really any way from stopping the smaller bits from washing down.
