I'm a certified gunsmith and licensed FFL dealer. I've tried several sight pushers and the Real Avid is the best. i've tried the Vism that was a waste of money. The wheeler and Lyman is the same style and are great sight pushers but the Real Avid beats them all. The Avid is versatile and ease of use the heavy duty construction is unmatched. It includes everything you need and extras parts as well. Unless you want to look into a MGW sight pusher that costs three times the Amount of the Avid and get same style as the wheeler and Lyman. The Avid is by far the best for the money
I realize this video is a few years old but, FYI for those who just found this like I did: Real Avid includes a list of guns with this sight pusher that are not compatible with this tool. It includes the S&W Shield series of pistols. Others are H&K pistols and Springfield XD pistols. When in doubt, read the instructions. The information is on their website as well.
Some companies press fit the sights. The XD line is one such gun with press fit sights and are a bear to get out. Plus, this machine is only good to 200 inch pounds. So some guns are out all together. Since the pusher is both square and angled, it should do most guns with flattop slides. The level adjustment is not made for rounded top slides like the 1911 though, so I wouldn't put any round topped gun in it.
I looked at both the Real Avid and the Wheeler but ended up buying the Wheeler. I think this Real Avid sight pusher is a decent unit tho. Its hard to tell from pictures, but they always seem to have to much plastic and that always pushes me away from them. I am glad you showed the 3/8 ratchet as that is a great feature along with the one side of their pusher that gets in the dovetail. I am very happy with the US Wheeler myself. I think S&W must use hydraulic presses to install those sights! :) Nice video
The question is: will this sight pusher work for micro pistols (pocket pistols) like a Ruger LCP max? I purchased two different sight pushers and neither is set up to push out the sight on the forementioned pistol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Mark. It come with a smaller plate that will hold in the micros. Check the “big” online retailer they have a picture that lists firearms that “are not” supported due to different manufacturers slide designs. Example CZ Shadow series and on the small side the Sig P365XL. It’s the ol “it depends” situation
Watching this video and gave a like because this is the exact issue I'm having, with the exact same model handgun. I have a question. Have you taken it to the range and been able to verify if you got the sight moved to the correct position yet?
I find that a punch and vise does work well if you use the right technique. For stubborn sights honestly it comes down to having an extremely ridged vise and bench. My m&p sights would not budge after multiple attempts and then I finally put it in a 8inch milling vise and it came out no problem. Just don’t use a steel punch
...YEEAAH... I have a Springfield Armory XD9. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNNOTT GET IT TO BUDGE!! Even with a hammer and punch... I bought this sight tool. Will give it a shot.
From the looks of that thing it won't change sites on a Springfield Armory XD And if it won't change Springfield Armory sites it's not worth taking home with you
That was horrible, the slide completely tilted! but if it worked for you and you happy all good, I wont be getting this one, I have a P500 Pro Universal Sight Tool that I changed some glocks sights with but just used it on a new Walther PDP Pro and took forever to adjust then ended up damaging the slide on one side as pushing night fision blank sight, boy I am so pissed off about it, have not even fired the gun yet and its already damaged, touched with a sharpie pen but still looks horrible as tiny bit of metal shows and also damaged the push plate on the tool. That garbage will be sold now, and on the market for a good sight tool, I see so far there is none. The MGW Pro is too expensive @ $300.00 and on top they make you buy individual shoe plates for it to work @$15.00 a piece????? WTF?????

Great vid and explication! What I needed, thank you.

I see the smaller shield fits in. Will it also accept a full size MP 2.0?
Just what I wanted to know, thanks.
Right on. Thanks Rob!
Have you used the wheeler sight tool and if so how does it compare to that sight tool? Thanks

Yep. Confirmed

What do you use instead of a metal one? Are there some strong/durable plastic sets like you see on the end of some mallets?
Use a quality brass punch like a starret 1/4 inch. Plastic punches don’t really work that well in my experience.
@@xdfanatic yeah I figured nylon/plastic ones suck, but cool thanks I'll give that a try in my vise
M&P, Sig, some 1911s are a chore and a nightmare to do

Have you tried a heat gun on the slide to expand the steel on the slide?
Are you pushing the sight the wrong direction? On my M&P Shield I had to go the opposite direction.
WSM pusher is the best it’s pricey but with the shoe inside the frame there’s no movement
I'm having the same problem with my m2.0 sights they wouldn't move even when I put gun lube on it
But the Real avid product listing says the MP Shield is not supported, though!
Yet, rhe Shield is what you did on in this video?!
So, who's lying?
I want!
S&W sights are always a pain.
Indeed brother

A hammer and punch is NOT a good idea for tritium sights.
Looks like a POS tool. IMO it should clamp down better than that. Not allow the slide to roll. It's in a bind when it's has rolled. Smh

You did cheap out. MGW is $300.
This is cheap Chinese crap!
Seemed to work just fine for him. Whatever gets the job done right.
