- Homeschoolers are required by the SA Schools Act to apply for registration with the Department of Education in their province.
In this chat we welcome Bouwe van der Eems. Bouwe and his wife homeschool their 5 children, he was, for many years chairman of the trustees at the Pestalozzi Trust, is the current chairman of the Cape Home Educators and is an homeschool activist.
In this discussion we cover:
What does registering with the Department of Education mean for your children
Why some of the language in the new Schools Act (including the BELA clauses) is vague
What are the rights of parents and children
Will you “go to jail” if you don’t register
What is the Golden Rule with homeschooling … and so much more

Excellent video!
This was an INCREDIBLE video, thanks
The process of registering or not registering is emotionally draining for the whole family, including the children.
Great video. Thank you.
Very well said, thank you!
Very good. Thank you for this
It is much easier for your home education to be compared to the standard of public schools, because that standard is low.
My child's program is not comparable to CAPS, it is far superior to CAPS. For one thing, it is free from ideology and focuses on his individual strengths and interests. CAPS wishes it was comparable to our curriculum!
I submitted my eldest and middle child's forms to the DBE, had no feedback they are both done with school now.... Just kept my correspondence as proof
This is very informative! Thank you for taking the time to educate the public.
Thank you for your dedication to your CALLING!!!! BLESSINGS!!!
